The SAT is an important milestone for high school students; with adequate preparation in a Sacramento SAT course that Varsity Tutors can set you up with, you can better reach for your performance goals on the exam. At around 3 hours without the optional Essay, it might be the longest test you have taken thus far. The SAT's length, content, and format can challenge you in new ways. But with a thorough subject review and practice, you can approach it with greater aptitude and confidence so college admissions departments get an accurate picture of your abilities.

A Sacramento SAT prep course can help you study more effectively. It enables you to collaborate with an instructor online as well as your peers who are logged in as well. The structured environment can help steer you in the right path. On the other hand, studying alone might not help you understand more challenging subjects, address gaps in learning you might miss, or teach you how to approach the format of the SAT. A Sacramento SAT course also can build study and test-taking skills to take with you going forward.

What Subject Areas Does a Sacramento SAT Class Cover?

Your high school curriculum up until now has not been passive; you'll need every skill and bit of knowledge to get through the SAT at your maximum potential. In an online classroom environment, your instructor will cover what you've learned at institutions like Mira Loma High School or Pleasant Grove High School. They'll also provide an in-depth look at the test, its content, and format. Your final scores are essential but are not limited to just one section. Colleges will look at scores on each section, your Total Composite score, and SAT Essay score (with the optional SAT Essay, an extra 50 minutes is added to your test time), to identify individual strengths and opportunities.

You're not penalized for guessing; the exam is scored based on the number of questions you answer correctly. The SAT is broken down as follows: The SAT Math section has 58 questions to answer in 80 minutes; it is divided up into two parts, one with 15 multiple-choice questions/5 grid-ins (no calculator allowed) and one with 30 questions and 8 grid-ins (where you can use a calculator). Multiple questions might involve a single scenario. Concepts tested on include algebra, problem solving, data analysis, and mathematical expressions while you will need to apply skills such as fluency, accuracy, making connections between linear equations, and analytical skills.

The SAT Reading Test is 65 minutes long and includes 52 questions based on a variety of passages. These include selections from contemporary or classic U.S. or world literature, United States founding documents or content inspired by them, a social science selection, and passages related to biology, physics, chemistry, or Earth science. Here, you have an opportunity to showcase skills such as Command of Evidence, Words in Context, and Analysis in History/Social Studies and in Science.

Also multiple-choice, the SAT Writing and Language Test is 35 minutes long. It includes 44 questions and your score in this section is combined with SAT Reading Test. Questions are presented as written passages, some incorporating charts, tables, and graphs. While you don't need prior knowledge of the information, you'll need to show you can develop information and ideas, improve word choices, organize ideas, and apply standard English conventions and understand clauses, punctuation, verb tenses, comma use, and sentence structure.

The SAT Essay is optional, but gives you 50 minutes to answer a single question. It measures your ability to read a passage and identify an author's evidence to support claims, develop your own ideas, and evaluate the author's argument and persuasive impact. You don't have to agree with the author. The Essay just examines how well you understand central ideas, can use textual evidence, and support/develop claims using evidence contained in the passage. Your ability to produce organized content is essential; your answer will be scored based on your organization and precision and use of written English conventions, varied sentence structure, and style and tone.

How Can a Sacramento SAT Course Help Me Study?

Each course is led by an instructor experienced in helping students prepare for the SAT. Instructors have been interviewed to verify their expertise and ability to communicate with high school students. A live virtual platform supports online sessions that you log into from wherever you can access the Internet, so you can participate from home, school, or a library or coffee shop. Group lessons are designed to foster collaboration and employ proven methods to approach challenging questions. Aside from reviews of subjects you may covered long ago, your Sacramento SAT course instructor can explain how to eliminate wrong answers and analyze passages to get clues as to what the correct answer is.

The courses are flexible as well. At Varsity Tutors, we know the latter parts of high school and the college application process can be stressful. We have taken the hassle out of scheduling a prep course. Your options include two- and four-week SAT courses and you can sign up for new courses that begin on a weekly basis. And when you need extra help or aren't satisfied with a collaborative lesson, you can request one-on-one time with an instructor for individual assistance.
