To enhance your SAT preparation, Varsity Tutors offers Kansas City SAT courses designed to be convenient and thorough while meeting your SAT prep needs. After all, your SAT score is going to be used by college and university admissions boards in part to determine whether they accept you as a student or not. Why not give yourself every possible advantage as you work to achieve the score you want?
It may sound dramatic, but how well you score on the SAT can have an impact on the rest of your life. It may determine whether you get into the school and program you're interested in, which in turn can have an effect on the type of career options you have as you move into the professional world.
What subjects does the Kansas City SAT course cover?
The sections included on the SAT are Math, Reading, Writing and Language, and an optional Essay. Depending on what schools you're applying to and what major you wish to pursue, it may be a good idea or even a requirement that you write the SAT Essay, so be sure to check this before deciding whether to sign up for that section.
The three required sections are made up of multiple-choice questions, often taken on the computer. Your Kansas City SAT course is designed to do a thorough review of all content found on the exam, so let's take a quick look at each section.
The Math section is separated into problems you can use a calculator to solve and those you can't. It contains 58 questions that assess your analytical, problem-solving, algebraic, and general math skills. You have up to 80 minutes to complete this section.
The Reading section gauges your skills in reading comprehension, reasoning, command of evidence, and identifying how words are used in context. You'll also need to be able to read a passage and demonstrate your grasp of the meaning, including the tone and how that affects the passage, and your ability to make reasonable inferences and conclusions. You'll have 65 minutes to complete the 52 questions in this section.
The Writing and Language section measures your proficiency with the English language and its conventions. You'll answer 44 questions exhibiting your knowledge of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and other written English skills. You must analyze the passages presented and identify the changes that can improve and clarify their statements, relevance, and purpose.
The SAT Essay evaluates your writing skills. You'll be presented with a persuasive essay and be asked to analyze the author's use of supporting evidence, reasoning, and stylistic persuasion elements such as word choice and appeals to emotion, among others. You're given 50 minutes to complete the entire SAT Essay task.
How does a Kansas City SAT class help me prepare for the exam?
Your Kansas City SAT class sessions are conducted live over the Internet, so you can attend from home, the library, or a quiet room at Blue Valley North High School or The Pembroke Hill School. Classes are led by an expert instructor who knows the ins and outs of the SAT. Content review is an important part of preparing for the exam, but it's not the only thing your class with involve.
Taking a standardized exam like the SAT is pretty much a skill all on its own. There are firm time limits, questions may be worded in a confusing way, and you may have anxiety because the stakes are so high. When you take an SAT preparation course provided by Varsity Tutors, you can feel confident these issues will be addressed as seriously as the content review.
Good time management is imperative when taking the SAT. There's no chance to take an extra five minutes if everybody hasn't finished. There are many strategies you could use to increase your pace while maintaining your accuracy, and your SAT class instructor can demonstrate a wide variety of them.
The instructor may provide timed practice sections that simulate actual SAT questions. Generally, some classmates will finish with time left over, some will come in just under the wire, and some will have questions left unanswered. Not only can your instructor provide ideas on how to solve pacing issues, but your virtual peers can offer suggestions as well. During live online class sessions, you can interact with the leader and your fellow students in real time. A collaborative atmosphere has been proven to be an effective way to learn and retain information and skills.
Different strategies will work for different students, so you'll likely complete some practice sections outside of class trying the ideas you think might work until you find the right one or two for you. You have all the advantages of a group class plus those of individualized learning opportunities.
Attending Kansas City SAT classes help you become familiar with the entire SAT testing process, which may alleviate anxiety due to fear of the unknown. Your whole SAT class can discuss and practice relaxation techniques that could be useful during the test.
One more of the many ways your SAT class can help you prepare: if you find a concept or problem more challenging than the rest of your classmates, you can request one-on-one tutoring time so you don't fall behind or hold the class up. You can work at your own pace with focused attention with your instructor to give you the opportunity you need to better understand the material.

I work to give all of my students the tools and strategies they need to be successful. As an experienced music teacher, this means developing critical listening and practice skills. An energetic, ambitious, responsible and intelligent individual who has developed a mature and responsible approach to any tasks undertaken. Experienced, creative, adaptable and bright individual with an excellent motivation towards learning and helping others. ... I have two teaching philosophies as a tutor: to get students to think about science (and other classes) as a process, and to individualize their learning experiences.... In a typical first session with a student I will introduce myself and then ask them questions about themselves, such as "What is your favorite color?" or " What is your favorite hobby?" as an ice breaker and then follow up by telling them something about me.

The exchange of information and education is a passion for me! Creating a comfortable and fun atmosphere will allow learning to be enjoyable and memorable for all parties involved!... Keep it entertaining! I love using innovative and contemplative approaches to teaching; learning should be permanent and fun!... Breaking the ice and laughing is always a good idea for a first lesson! Introductions and getting to know someone is exciting, and I would have a few questions, as well as have information about myself to share with the student before jumping right into the task at hand. Certainly, we will get to know each other more as time went on, but fun first impressions are great!
