I received my Bachelor's degree in Economics, summa cum laude, from Hunter College, and my J.D. from Harvard Law School. At Hunter College, I studied economics, mathematics and philosophy and earned a 4.0 in all math courses (I completed math courses up to multi-variable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra) and in graduate school my studies focused on business, finance, and corporate law. I also received a graduate level certificate in Advanced Calculus with Financial Engineering Applications from Baruch College's esteemed Financial Mathematics department and I am CFA candidate. The subjects I tutor are math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus), statistics, finance, economics, SAT Math and LSAT prep.I believe that classroom instruction is not always the most effective pedagogical approach for all students, and that 1-on-1 instruction can be tremendously helpful in overcoming obstacles and developing stronger learning and test-taking techniques.I enjoy this work because I find the subjects interesting and enjoy helping students succeed at something and develop confidence. My professional interests include economics, finance, value investing, venture investing, derivatives trading, and commercial real estate. In addition to my academic and professional interests, I enjoy art, film, poker, technology, muay thai kickboxing and basketball.

I am a graduate of Hunter College with a Masters of Science in Education, with a focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Students with Disabilities. I am certified as a New York State teacher, working with the New York City Department of Education. My philosophy on teaching is quite simple: each student learns in their own way and it is the responsibility of a teacher/tutor to determine how a student learns, determine their needs and create lessons that the student will feel successful in completing while fostering their unique learning styles. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, learning new things, taking my dog for long walks and curling up on the porch with a good book or the latest "it" book.
I have been tutoring for the past 5 years. My quality of providing a student specific help makes me a great tutor. I am very good at analyzing a student and finding out the areas where a student needs strengthening.
Grade Level Lead and classroom management experience has helped me develop and execute school wide systems and routines. Training teachers on curriculum design, blended learning, and implementation has been one of the greatest levers in ensuring high student performance across multiple classrooms. Due to this and well executed instruction, teams have improved student performance tremendously on both the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, as well as the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress test through evidence-based lessons that allow children to apply skills through depths of knowledge. I have spent my 12 year career teaching students with special needs and general education in elementary, middle, and high school, while supporting my team in curriculum design that supports interdisciplinary applications for students with various learning needs. I have achieved these accomplishments through online platform management and data driven instruction that enhances personalized learning. My masters in the Science of Education (Special Education) from Hunter College has given me an excellent foundation to education that has allowed me to practice proper implementation of curriculum, school-wide teacher accountability, and effective instruction. I am dual certified in the state of New Jersey to teach grades one through 6 in general and special education. I have successfully instructed all grades, 1st through 12th, to both native and secondary English language speakers. As a special education teacher, I have had the opportunity to transform the lives of learning impaired, autistic, mild cognitively impaired, and emotionally impaired students. With proper vertical curriculum alignment, all children can achieve scholarly success.Lastly, I am also a college professor with experience teaching adults. My experience with college readiness standards provides me with unique skills to prepare and support students to and through college. I look forward to our partnership in the success of your child.
Education truly is the social justice issue of our time; no other endeavor is so far-reaching in its ability to precipitate change in all other areas of society. It is this principal that drives me as an educator; as a teacher and tutor I am entrusted with the privilege of sharing the gift of culture, conversation and critical-thinking.I have been a primary school dual language teacher in New York City for the past 4 years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University and a Master's Degree in Education from Hunter College, which I received through the New York City Teaching Fellows program. My teaching and tutoring practices are based in student-led, performance-based learning that allows students to work towards their goals in at their own pace and according to their own personal learning needs. I am a firm believer in making content relevant and relatable so as to facilitate the integration of new concepts and ideas.I am trained and certified to teach all of the content areas for grades 1-6 (English Language Arts, STEM, Social Studies, etc.), and am also qualified to teach Spanish Language up through the college level. As your tutor, I will do everything I can to help you reach your goals!
I received my first training as a tutor in two undergraduate courses which prepared me for my job as a general chemistry tutor at Rollins College, where I received my B.A. in chemistry and mathematics. As an undergraduate, I also worked at a tutoring center in Winter Park, FL. At this center, I tutored students ranging from elementary to undergraduate. Although my professional and academic specialty is chemistry, I have extensive experience tutoring in a broad range of subjects, particularly test preparation (ACT/SAT) and mathematics. My skill as a tutor and passion for teaching stems from my insatiable need to learn about various subjects. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly making new connections and gaining a deeper understanding of the content and context of the material I work with. This enables me to approach a question or concept from numerous angles, not only enabling my students to retain the material but also helping them to see the broader implications of whatever they are learning. As a tutor, I aim to pique my students' interest and guide them to realize their own educational potential. Beyond academics, I thoroughly enjoy pursuing scientific research, reading (fiction and non-fiction), and outdoor activities, e.g. hiking and kayaking.
A lifelong curiosity about the English language led me to an ESL teaching career. I hold an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) as well as a BA in English. I would be happy to help you improve your English. I can assist you in many areas such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading, writing, academic English, essay writing, conversational English, proofreading and editing, and much more.I am also a musician, obsessive bread baker, and runner.
What I like most about tutoring is the opportunity to individualize the learning process for each student, as everyone learns differently. From 8th grade until my senior year I was homeschooled. I did not realize the advantage of my personalized curriculum until I went to college. Being homeschooled gave me the great gift of a genuine love of learning. I try to inspire this love in my students. I enjoy seeing people thrive and grow and understand that patience and positivity goes a long way. I look forward to helping you take your education to the next level.I have experience working and volunteering with pupils of all ages, ranging from 4 to 35. I have worked one-on-one and in small groups. My favorite moment in a session is when a student lights up after they finally understand the material. Students that require additional attention are especially excited when they are able to cross the bridge from unsure to sure and it is a really rewarding thing behold!
My name is Kadeem and I am a current student at Hunter College aspiring to become a pediatrician. Three words that best describe me are enthusiastic, determined and optimistic. I use all three personal attributes to complement my work ethic and ultimately bring out the best in each of my students. I enjoy helping students to overcome their academic fears and achieve academic success.

I am a graduate student at Hunter College for an MA in Statistics and I am trying to pursue a career as an actuary. I have been tutoring various math subjects for five years and love to tutor. I always try to really individualize my approach to tutoring because everyone learns differently.
Hello there! Some info on myself: I am a mathematics, philosophy, and German major at Hunter College in New York. Besides my studies, I am very passionate towards helping others in school in any way I can. I am here to help you. I will do my utmost best guiding you to succeed in academia through my tutoring methods. On top of this, I am very friendly!I enjoy reading, questioning, thinking, and exploring the world. I have been to Europe twice and went to summer school there to study German Language. Something interesting about me is that I really love avocados! It might sound cliche, but I am the type of person who can have an avocado for each meal...and have it unsalted! However, chocolate is the holy grail and takes precedence as my favorite food!
I'm a student at the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College majoring in economics and minoring in Spanish on the pre-med track. I'm a volunteer researcher for The Microbe Directory at Weill Cornell Medical College, and a clinical volunteer at the Cardiac Care Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. With nearly two decades of experience in education, I've taught in bilingual Spanish elementaryclassrooms, ESL programs for children and adults in Ecuador, after school Spanish language programs, and piano and general music instruction to all ages in group and individual classes. My student-centric teaching philosophy is rooted in building confidence, comfortable self-expression, good social skills and having fun! The students I work with achieve exceptional results by learning how to set high standards for themselves, recognize each victory as they go, and become their own advocates for success. The joy of seeing that light bulb go off during moments that seem so brief but are really important milestones in a child's learning journey and their gleaming smile when they can FEEL the progress they are making these are the things I have enjoyed most about working with children.
I have always had a passion for language learning. From exposure to German in Kindergarten to learning English upon moving to the United States, language learning has consistently been a part of my life. The love for learning foreign languages is something that I feel very passionately about and I am very eager to share this passion with all those that want to improve their skills or are just starting to dive into a new language.Languages open the doors of opportunity. Not only for career benefits but to so many opportunities to share thoughts and ideas with people from different places around the world. Through the acquisition of new language skills, our eyes can be opened to a universe that, although may seem distant, is actually not all too different from our own.
Throughout my years of teaching, I have had the pleasure to see my students grow into competent and successful beings. Their confidence grew with our sessions, and they realized that they can do what they thought was the impossible. I enjoy tutoring and teaching because of these moments. There aren’t many professions when you get to help people and see results quickly. This job is one of the few.
I am a senior at Hunter College pursuing my bachelors in biochemistry/economics. I have been in this profession for almost 5 years now and it delights me when I am able to share my knowledge. Diffusion of Knowledge is my philosophy and knowledge is only solidified best when taught and transmitted. I am expecting to pursue a career in business but for now I have developed a very strong attachment to my position, especially when i see my students raining 4s on their state test and above 90s on their regents. I have tutored all grade level from first grade to college and my specialty lies in state test prep for both math and ela between 3rd grade and 8th grade. I have also helped my students master their regents. I tutor in regents chemistry, living environment, algebra and trigonometry. I can also do AP chemistry and AP Biology.
I studied abroad in Germany the summer of my sophomore year. I was raised bilingual in Spanish and English. These days I've expanded my horizons to the French and German languages. In high school, I tutored students in Algebra at risk of failing the year. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Algebra, Critical Reading and Writing for Standardized Tests. I care about my students' success. I love learning and have a passion to help others become lifelong learners. In my spare time, I read and go for walks along the riverside.
I am a science tutor with a positive, patient, and straightforward approach to teaching. I currently teach part-time with the Chemistry Department at Hunter College and have extensive experience tutoring high school and undergraduate students in the sciences and test prep. My specialities are General Chemistry, Biology, and SAT test prep.To share a little more of my background: I graduated with honors from Wesleyan University in 2008 with my BA in Film Studies and then went on to complete a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical program at Hunter College. I expect to enter medical school in 2016 and until then am enjoying this chance to pass on the material I've learned to other students!Since I came to the sciences a little later in life, I learned a lot of helpful tools and tricks to make these subjects more accessible and easier to remember. I myself am a visual learner, so I love to incorporate the use of drawings, diagrams, mnemonics, and other learning devices into my instruction.Finding a good fit for your learning style is key, so please feel free to contact me with any questions about my approach or experience!
I have been teaching Algebra, Geometry, ISEE, SAT, SSAT and ACT Prep for almost 20 years. My experience ranges from teaching in person classes of up to 30 students, to one-on-one individualized programs. I am passionate about helping my students learn the materials in each of their individual learning styles. No two students are identical and are able to learn the same. Teachers must be able to adapt and assist each student's needs in this way.
I have spent the last five years teaching in middle and high schools in New York and Connecticut. In that time, I have experienced the incredible success that all students can have with individualized and properly scaffolded instruction first-hand. My teaching experiences have been varied across all departments. I have partnered with several different co-teachers in an ICT environment in the English and Math departments. I have also taught pull-out interventions for literacy, along with writing and conducting testing for Individualized Education Plans. I have received comprehensive training to prepare our students for standardized state assessments, as well as integrating our curriculum with Common Core Learning Standards. In addition, I initiated several after-school clubs to fill in the gaps in elective offerings, such as theater and culinary arts. I thrive in an environment where I can pull from current events and popular culture to create a dynamic classroom environment. This also involves equipping them with the right strategies to access complicated texts, or helping them internalize the steps to break down a complex math problem. Above all, I have aspired to create an accepting and positive environment, so all students feel like they have a stake in their own success.
My name is Jas and I am currently pursing a masters in physiology. I have been tutoring for over 5 years and have tutored a wide variety of subjects. I have worked with a multitude of age ranges and have successfully implemented strategies that help students in their everyday academic lives.
I am a passionate teacher looking to help students find the best learning and studying methods that work for them on an individual level! I love reading and especially history. It is my genuine belief that everyone can be a lifelong learner if they are supported in their journey to understand their personal learning style!

I am a fluent Japanese native, born in Japan, but raised mostly in the United States. I return multiple times a year to keep in touch with my Japanese family, as well as the culture and language. While I enjoy academics as a whole, my passion has been in the Japanese language and Psychology, both of which I have an extensive college education in. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Psychology. I believe learning another language is difficult enough on its own, so I aim to bridge the gaps in culture, native pronunciation, and enjoyment, through a relaxed, organized, patient, and encouraging approach. Consistency is key when it comes to any type of learning, therefore I aim to ensure that all students receive a punctual and dependable tutor in me. In my spare time I enjoy working with animals, watching documentaries, and playing tennis.
We are all able to learn. Some many need strategies, clarification and some TLC. As a Speech-Language Pathologist for 30+ years, it has been my passion to assist my clients in achieving their goals.I am patient, funny and compassionate.
When it comes to teaching, I do my best to ensure that the tutee understands the material. I am patient when it comes to teaching, as every student has their own pace of study, and will alter my methods in order to meet their pace. I would then create problems that would test their knowledge on the subject before moving onto the next. The success of my student is very important to me, and I will do my best to help them achieve their best.
Hi! I am a proud graduate of Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music. I majored in musical theatre (voice primary/piano secondary) and minored in Spanish. I would love to be able to guide you however I can. Whether it be practical or performance based, I have your music needs covered.
My goal as a tutor is to ensure that every one of my students learns the proper methods and gains the understanding to tackle their academic problems. I will work with an individual for however long it takes them to master a subject. I value the importance of practice when it comes to academics. The grades students receive are based on the practice time put in by the student, so it is necessary to put in the practice time until a concept is mastered. No question in any subject should be seen as impossible to tackle - with the proper learning tools and tips/tricks that I provide to my students, I'm confident they can take on a problem of any difficulty level.
I believe that every student has the ability to learn if we can figure out how to best meet their needs. No one is perfect, but practice and patience will help us get closer.I am a 26 year old graduate from Hunter College with a Masters degree in Childhood Education with certification to teach the blind and visually impaired. I also received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from Marist College.
A learning environment featuring engagement, organization, flexibility, and understanding is one of most optimal to empower students to realize their academic and personal goals, as well as to become whole citizens of the world. My passion for learning and working towards social progress pushes me to create this type of environment while teaching. In this manner, I remind myself that students are the paramount focus of my teaching. I welcome them to feel comfortable and honest in my classroom and to emerge as active members of the teaching and learning process. I want to highlight to students that everyone has the potential to learn math. Whether the student loves the subject or perhaps it is not their strongest suit, my role as a teacher is to take up the challenge of providing a path for students in which they can fully realize their potential. It is my responsibility as an educator to maintain current knowledge of the pedagogical literature and communicate with colleagues for best practices. It is important to exercise collaborative learning, projects, and multimodal work as additional teaching methods to incorporate the broad spectrum of students' linguistic and cultural repertoire. Furthermore, practicing formative assessments such as oral presentations will serve to promote individual student's confidence and personality growth, as well as minimize biases. I believe we need to constantly evaluate our teaching forms and be simultaneously critical and flexible to executing new ideas on classroom instruction. Above all, a love for teaching and advocacy of agency growth are two of the key elements for motivating students to learn. Through my experience as a Teaching Assistant for Calculus courses, I strive to practice student-centered approaches to create a desire for learning. I develop open-ended learning tasks for students to think critically about the main ideas of the textbook. By establishing an interactive dialogue, the students and I derive examples and approaches that best fit with their learning style. I appreciate the honesty that students display when giving mathematical answers that need improvement; embracing struggles and mistakes presents another opportunity toward success. Lastly, during office hours I adapt my teaching style to provide individual help that fits the needs of the scholar. These strategies foster a setting filled of inquiry, engagement, and problem-solving that students can carry to other courses and beyond. The production of an atmosphere that is conducive to critical thinking and advancement starts by cultivating a good rapport with students. Often, I relate with students because I continue to be a student myself. I recognize the variation of socioeconomic challenges students face, and I know that sometimes I have minute direct influence over certain challenges. However, teachers are uniquely positioned to initiate and contribute to conversations that are inclusive of multiple perspectives and lived experiences. Through this viewpoint, I work towards becoming supportive, culturally aware, and a better communicator with every teaching interaction. This might resemble hosting one-on-one appointments for students who have conflicting schedules or affording assignment extensions for students with extenuating circumstances. Additionally, building connections with students' families requires a conscious effort and is well worthwhile when necessary, given that parental support plays a crucial role in learners' attitude both in and out of the classroom. Without question, my passion for teaching drives me to seek opportunities to educate and mentor students from all backgrounds. Via student feedback and evaluations, I look forward to continuously improving my teaching for the effort of assisting young minds to blossom into their authentic self and future leaders of the world.
I am excited to have a chance to assist my students to achieve success in their academics. There is no other feeling like working hard on something and finally accomplishing that goal. It is my pleasure to assist any student to achieve this kind of personal power!I have an general passion for learning new things that inspires my love of teaching. Also, I have taught in 8th grade, 9th grade, and 2nd grade classrooms, as well as provided support to students of varying ages and grade levels in other educational programs.Learning should be student-centered, meaning that everything that happens in a tutoring session should be tailored to the needs of the student.I have the experience, the drive, the passion, and the skills to help young scholars accomplish their goals. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve and look forward to meeting you and your scholar!

I am a graduate of CUNY Hunter College with a Bachelors in Latin and Ancient Greek, as well as a Masters in Adolescent Latin Education. I have years of experience tutoring just about every age group and level of Latin (6th grade through college), even founded an afterschool Latin tutoring program for elementary school students, and taught Middle School Latin for the DOE. I am passionate about teaching students because I found myself through Classics, first stumbling on Ancient Greek through the historian Herodotus, "The Father of History," and teaching myself the language outside of a school setting. This is how I found my love for classical languages and learning in general really. This interest extended to Latin, for which I was prepared because of the rigor of Greek. A scholarship through my school allowed me to study Greek abroad in Athens, Greece; and another scholarship in the name of the Pope's Latinist, Reginald Foster, brought me to Rome, Italy to study Classical, Medieval, Renaissance, and mostly spoken Latin through the Paideia Institute. Furthermore, I encourage students to find the beauty of Latin and Greek for their own sake, which still nonetheless echo through every modern discipline today. In this way, they will become better readers and writers, and ultimately better learners, as these classical languages shape their minds.

I attended Hunter College, City University of New York and I received a Bachelor's degree in Theater History. After pursuing a career as an actress and singer in New York and Los Angeles for about 12 years, I discovered my entrepreneurial side and started a successful concierge business in Westchester, New York which lasted for about a year before I relocated to Los Angeles. In California, I briefly continued my concierge business before going back to school and earning a certification as a clinical hypnotherapist. I conducted therapy with many clients and helped them deal with issues such as weight loss, smoking cessation and dysfunctional relationships. Eventually, I moved my therapy business online and began offering self-help advice and coaching to women who wanted to start their own small businesses. Currently, I am still working online, but now mostly as a freelance writer, creating marketing content for business owners.
I am a passionate educator with over eight years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have worked with many different kinds of learners during my career as a public school teacher, and I understand that every student has their own unique way of growing and of mastering skills. I have experience teaching a wide variety of literature and non-fiction texts and am very familiar with the Common Core and its emphasis on research skills. I especially enjoy teaching writing; I myself love to write and I teach students a clear process for approaching challenging essay assignments. Above all, I believe that learning should be meaningful and enjoyable and that any academic task is part of a student's personal journey of discovery. My undergraduate education at Columbia University gave me a thorough understanding of British, American, Latino, and African-American literature. My Master of Arts program in Adolescent English Education at Hunter College has enhanced my knowledge of literature while also covering the teaching skills that allow me to help students to master difficult concepts.I am a confident teacher of test preparation skills. I provide reading and writing strategies that empower students to perform at a high level on selected-response, short response, and essay questions. I emphasize the importance of analyzing test questions and passages so that students have a clear "plan of attack" on test day.My personal interests include playing guitar, songwriting, Tai Chi, and meditation.
As an educator for the past 40 years, I believe that education is the key to success and a high quality of life. Regardless of your race, ethnicity and economic status, obtaining a high- quality education will provide opportunities to improve your life. One of the most important elements in obtaining a good educational foundation, is the development of reading, writing and communication skills early on. Literacy is key across all the academic subjects. That is why I am passionate about helping young students develop their literacy competencies in English as well as in Spanish. I have taught for 35 years in the NYC public school system. During that time, I taught reading and Spanish as a second language to students in grades K-12. For the past 5 years, I have tutored students in reading/writing to prepare them for the standardized test, and in Spanish for second language enrichment. I have also tutored high school students on the SAT ELA test component. It has been very rewarding for me to see my students succeed in attaining their academic goals through the tutoring strategies they learn from my tutoring lessons.
To provide a little bit of background about myself: currently, I am a recent graduate of Columbia University's prestigious Teacher's College, equipped with a master's degree as well as a New York State teaching certification in secondary English. Most recently, I had the wonderful experience of working with high school Freshmen teaching a literary analysis unit on Greek mythology and allegorical literature at the Bronx High School of Science. The process of working with a unique combination of gifted and talented students, as well as many ESL learners, really opened my eyes in terms of reinforcing the value of education and the impact it can serve in shaping young people's futures. In the scant few months I was there, I saw students' oral and written academic skills improve dramatically as their comfort with the material increased; more than this, I found myself developing a personal bond with quite a few of them. I legitimately had a lot of fun working with those kids, and I can honestly say that there were some teary faces on both sides when it came time to say goodbye. The reality is, I'm scarcely a decade older than many of the students I taught; as a (relatively) young person myself, I graduated from college but a few short years ago, student loan-free, due to an honors scholarship I received on the basis of academic merit. While I remain forever grateful to the City University system for providing me with a proper education, gratis, as it were, my true debt lies with the hardworking men and women who spent valuable time tutoring me during high school. I can honestly say that without their help, both on the subjects I was struggling in as well as on the SAT, I literally wouldn't be where I am today. I became a teacher, then, to give back to my community, and it's my hope that I can accomplish a little bit more of that as a tutor, by providing the individualized attention that so many students benefit from.As for my hobbies, outside of education I often find myself enjoying keeping up to date on technology trends in the media, reading science fiction, and exercising outdoors. I enjoy the sensation of progress that learning gives me, and it's my hope to share that joy with prospective students.
