If you want to prepare effectively for the LSAT, Varsity Tutors can set you up with services that help you make the most of your study time. Because law schools such as the University of San Francisco School of Law or the University of California Davis School of Law may look at your scores during the application process, your preparation can make a difference for your future. The resources you work with and the instruction you receive during your sessions can fit your particular study needs.
The LSAT stands for the Law School Admissions Test. The exam takes two hours and 55 minutes to complete. Only the LSAT is accepted at all ABA-accredited law schools. You will answer the multiple-choice questions on the exam on a tablet that is provided on the day of the exam. The LSAT Writing section will take place online, and you have one year to complete the Writing Section.
What am I able to review during San Francisco LSAT prep?
The three multiple-choice sections of the LSAT are Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning. Before we explore your preparation options, let's take a moment to look through the contents of each section.
The Reading Comprehension section of the LSAT requires you to deal with complex, long-form written material. This sort of understanding is key to success in a law school environment. You will encounter questions that ask you to identify the main idea of a piece, infer the author's attitude towards a topic, evaluate the organization of a piece, and more. You will have 35 minutes to complete this section of the LSAT.
During the Analytical Reasoning section, you must display your ability to understand relationships and their structure. You will reason with conditional statements, make effective inferences, and solve problems based on the structure of relationships. You will have 35 minutes to complete this section as well.
The Logical Reasoning section contains two parts, and you will have 70 minutes to complete the entire section. You will encounter questions that deal with a variety of sources such as magazines, informal discourse, scholarly publications, and more. As you work with the information from any of these sources, you must be able to analyze the information to make or understand arguments. You will reason by analogy, recognize the component parts of an argument and the relationship between these parts, and identify flaws in a particular argument.
The Writing section of the LSAT is not scored and you can undergo the 35-minute test from a secure online portal at any time during the year following your test date. This section is unscored because law schools will evaluate your writing themselves during the application process. They will examine your reasoning, clarity, structure, and the overall quality of your writing. Your ability to make an effective argument is the key skill this section examines.

...a test preparation company. Indeed, I have a special place in my heart for the LSAT, and I think it's a test that becomes much more manageable with a lot of practice and a solid understanding of its mechanics. I just moved to the Bay Area from Alaska, where I clerked for a judge in Dillingham, a remote town accessible only by plane. Needless to say, I love the outdoors, and when I'm not working,...

...My favorite subjects to teach are government/political science and homeland security. The first helps me understand our amazing system of government, and the second is about protecting it. My teaching philosophy stems from theories about adult learning (andragogy). Rather than the teacher simply spewing facts (pedagogy), the teacher is a facilitator of learning to a motivated learner. Students need to know facts, but learning is more than that. It includes thinking about the material.

I tutor the LSAT because I know it's a hard test and I know what it's like to struggle with it. However I also understand the process necessary to produce better scores, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping someone achieve what seemed impossible a few months ago.... Your score is a product of so many factors--your understanding of the material, your speed, even how accurately you bubble answers--but in the end it all comes down to whether you studied the test from every angle and put in the time necessary to get the results you want.
