Varsity Tutors is the only name you need to know if you are looking into professional Denver LSAT prep services. The Law School Admission Test, or LSAT, is the only high-stakes exam accepted by all ABA-accredited law schools in the United States and common-law law schools in Canada. You could use one score to apply to a local school such as Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver and a school in another country. How cool is that?
Of course, preparing for the LSAT can prove challenging. Thankfully, we can connect you with two great test prep services to help you improve your self-confidence heading into the exam. First, we can place you in a Denver LSAT prep course where you can study for the exam in a virtual classroom environment with a knowledgeable teacher and other students. Alternatively, we can match you with a private Denver LSAT tutor who can adapt their teaching methods to your preferred learning style to improve your study efficiency. Contact us today to learn more about how we may be able to help you.
What subjects can I go over during my Denver LSAT prep?
The LSAT is a digital exam with three scored multiple-choice sections (Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning) and an unscored Writing prompt that acts as your law school application writing sample. Each section lasts 35 minutes, and every exam includes two Logical Reasoning sections for a total testing time just shy of three hours. Your score is reported on a scale from 120-180 based on the total number of questions you answered correctly, meaning that there is no penalty for guessing incorrectly versus leaving something blank.
Each of the multiple-choice questions on the exam are answered on a tablet. It's a novel experience, but you get some useful features such as highlighting functionality, a five-minute warning, and the ability to flag questions to easily go back to them if time allows. You compose your essay on a different device and during a different testing session than the rest of the exam, which you have one calendar year to arrange after taking the first three sections.
Here is a closer look at what you can expect on each section of the exam:
Reading Comprehension
The Reading Comprehension section features long-form, complicated material similar to what lawyers need to read when preparing their cases. You need to be able to identify the purpose of a passage, define words and phrases through the context they appear in, make inferences based on what you read, and note how tone and organization affect the overall impact of a piece.
Analytical Reasoning
The Analytical Reasoning section is all about understanding the structure of relationships and how to draw conclusions from them. You need to be able to recognise logically-equivalent statements, evaluate truth statements (identifying whether a given statement could or must be true based on the information you have), and reason through conditional statements. This section closely mirrors the logic statements you may have seen in math classes at the high school or college level.
Logical Reasoning
The Logical Reasoning section assesses how well you can analyze and complete arguments. You'll work with material drawn from a variety of sources on this section, including informal discourse, advertisements, scholarly journals, magazines, and magazines. Some of the skills you need on this section include drawing conclusions based on evidence, reasoning by analogy, identifying misunderstandings and points of disagreement, identifying how new evidence could change the equation, and identifying flaws in an argument.
Writing
The Writing section consists of one essay prompt that presents you with a decision question and two possible courses of action. You select one of them and then write an argumentative essay defending your position. There are no right or wrong answers in which side you choose to support, as law schools evaluate your work according to your command of written English, organization, language choice, reasoning, and clarity. Your essay is not directly scored, but don't fall into the trap of thinking that it doesn't matter.
What are some of the benefits offered by each of the Denver LSAT preparation options available to me?
If you opt for a Denver LSAT prep class, you'll study online on our live virtual platform with an expert instructor and several other students preparing for the exam. We know that attending weekly class sessions isn't always the easiest thing in the world, so we offer both two and four-week options to make it easier on your schedule. We also start new classes every week, so you can get started whenever you're ready.
Many students also find that studying in a collaborative learning environment adds a lot of value. This is true in the literal sense, as having multiple students split the bill makes expert instruction more affordable for everyone involved. More importantly, however, working with others can make it easier to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the material you're studying. For example, another student might point out a flaw in an argument that you didn't see, or you can play devil's advocate to help each other defend your position with evidence.
Alternatively, working with a one-on-one instructor allows you to study your way. Your tutor is not bound to follow any set curriculum, ensuring that your needs determine when you move onto a new topic. If you understand something intuitively, you can quickly move to something else to keep your sessions engaging. If you're having a harder time with something, your instructor can look for new examples to illustrate the concept to you.
Many students also take practice exams during their private study sessions to get a feel for what they can expect on exam day. Time management is an important skill on every standardized test, and experiencing how long you have to finish first hand may help you budget it more effectively. Similarly, practice tests can help reveal your academic strengths and any areas of academic opportunity you might want to look at again.

While the LSAT is challenging, it is learnable, and with a basic understanding of logical concepts and some key strategies to approach each section, anyone is capable of improving his/her score significantly. I tutor the LSAT because I know it's a hard test and I know what it's like to struggle with it. However I also understand the process necessary to produce better scores, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping someone achieve what seemed impossible a few months ago.... Your score is a product of so many factors--your understanding of the material, your speed, even how accurately you bubble answers--but in the end it all comes down to whether you studied the test from every angle and put in the time necessary to get the results you want.
