If you're getting yourself ready to take the MCAT, Varsity Tutors can help set you up with a Raleigh-Durham MCAT course that can get you ready to face the challenge of this long and comprehensive test. If you're like most pre-med students, you've put a lot of time and effort into getting the grades you need to apply to your top medical school, and the Medical College Admission Test will be a large part of your profile when applying. Almost all medical schools in the United States require your MCAT scores when you apply, and when you're talking about Raleigh-Durham area schools such as Duke University's School of Medicine and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill's School of Medicine, you're talking about applying to some of the best medical schools in the nation. That means that virtually every applicant is likely to have top grades, which puts a greater emphasis on the rest of your profile.
Of the three most prestigious medical schools in the Tar Heel State, neither Duke nor North Carolina nor Wake Forest University's Medical School has more than a few hundred students enrolled in their programs, which makes it critical to make sure that your profile stands out from the pack. Getting a top score on the MCAT is a great way to do exactly that. Whether you've been a top student while doing your undergraduate work at North Carolina State or you're a working professional coming into the medical field, a high score on the MCAT could be the finishing touch that leads to acceptance into your preferred medical school.
The MCAT is a 7 1/2 hour exam that tests you in four distinct sections, so if you get a high score on this test, you'll have truly earned it. If you're thinking that you could use a little bit of extra help in preparing for the test, Varsity Tutors can help you connect with a qualified MCAT tutor, or we can steer you toward a Raleigh-Durham MCAT class that works with your schedule. However you think you'll best prepare, we're happy to help you make it happen.
What can I expect when I take a Raleigh-Durham MCAT prep course?
Taking the MCAT will be one of the most challenging experiences of your academic career. It consists of four sections focusing on your pre-med studies and how much of an understanding you've gained in these areas. During the test, you'll face sections concerning Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Let's take a more in-depth look at each part of the MCAT.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section consists of 59 questions, broken down further into passage-based and independent questions. You'll be given 10 passages and four to six questions per passage, for a total of 44 passage-based questions, while the remaining 15 questions will be independent. In this section, you'll be looking at the different organs and organ systems of the body, and your knowledge of physics, biology, and chemistry will be vital to any possible success. You'll have an hour and 35 minutes to complete this section.
In the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section, you'll again be dealing with passage-based questions. You'll have nine passages to assess and will face 53 questions based on the information you've read. This section will test your reading comprehension and analytical skills, and you'll have 90 minutes to get through the section, making it important for you to quickly absorb new information and analyze its meaning. This is the shortest of the four sections, so speed will be of more importance here than anywhere else on the MCAT.
As you might expect, the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section will test your knowledge of processes related to living organisms. Again, you'll receive a set number of passages and will answer 44 questions based on the passages. There will be another 15 questions independent of the reading. Not only will you have to know biological concepts, but you'll be using the skills you learned in chemistry in this section. Here, your inquiry and reasoning skills will determine what kind of score you earn.
Finally, you'll deal with the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. Just like the Chemical and Physical Foundations and Biological and Biochemical Foundations sections, you'll have 95 minutes to answer 59 questions, 44 of which will come from the passages you'll be provided. In this section, you'll be tested on behavioral changes and how cultural and social differences influence behavior, placing a large emphasis on concepts related to biology, sociology, and psychology. Whether you'd like to go over one section or all four, a Raleigh-Durham MCAT course can be a great way to expand your preparation and help you feel ready for the big exam.
How can a Raleigh-Durham MCAT class help me prepare?
When you take an MCAT class, you can expect to join several other students who are preparing for their own MCAT in a virtual classroom. You'll be working in a collaborative environment and will be able to bounce ideas off each other, allowing you to get some perspective from other students' experiences. You'll also be working with a qualified instructor who knows how to do well on the MCAT and is happy to pass along tips and tricks that you can use.
When you sign up for an MCAT class, you'll be doing so on a schedule that works for you. Classes start weekly, and you'll be able to select a two-week or four-week class, depending on the preparation that you think you're going to need. You'll also have the option to ask your instructor for one-on-one time.
How can I find a Raleigh-Durham MCAT course?
