How much does a private tutor in Richmond cost?

Since the Educational Directors at Varsity Tutors find you a private teacher in Richmond who's best suited to you or your student's academic needs, your final price for tutoring will vary. There are many aspects that affect your cost, such as the level of tutoring, your location, how often you have sessions, the subject you're studying, and your unique needs.

For example, if you see your tutor weekly to review concepts from your college-level business course at a school like the University of Richmond, you may pay a different amount than for occasional pre-algebra sessions for your 6th grader at Albert Hill Middle School. Studying with a Richmond tutor is surprisingly affordable, and it's a solid investment for students at all levels. Research indicates that even high-achieving students can enjoy many benefits from working with an experienced teacher, including receiving additional in-depth guidance and information on any subject.

Many private instructors also offer small group sessions, so you may be able to share the cost with other parents. You might also add on one of Varsity Tutors' live virtual classes to your learning plan as well, which is another cost-effective way to supplement private tutoring. To learn more about the price of tutoring in Richmond, VA, get in touch with one of our Educational Directors. Whether you contact us by phone or sign up online, we'll help you build a tutoring plan that fits your needs and your budget.

How do I find a private tutor in Richmond?

Seeking out a qualified tutor on your own can be a challenging task, particularly if you are already juggling your own remote work and managing your household. It's a complex process that involves finding a local tutor, verifying their qualifications and experience, scheduling sessions, and crossing your fingers that your student will get along with their tutor and make progress.

When you choose Varsity Tutors, we use advanced matching technology to pair your student with one of the most qualified Richmond tutors around.

Through our Live Learning Platform, your student can connect with their tutor from any location with an internet connection. We have a network of thousands of tutors who are ready and willing to guide your child in any of more than 3,000 subjects without having to leave your home. Our Learning Lab also gives you a way to monitor your student's progress in more detail than a tutor might be able to provide using adaptive tests and subject assessments.

Contact our Educational Directors to discuss your student's needs, academic goals, and learning style. It's important to note that tutoring is helpful for students of all ability levels. Whether your elementary-aged child is a budding math whiz or you need your own test prep tutor for one of hundreds of professional certifications, we will find you a private instructor in as little as 24 hours.

The Raleigh Durham School System

Raleigh, North Carolina, is the capital of the state and the second largest city after Charlotte. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and has an estimated population of about 465,000. The schools in Raleigh are under the supervision of the Wake County Public School System. The district serves almost 160,000 students in 171 public schools and is one of the largest school districts in the country.

With so many students to serve, it is not unusual for many children to feel like just another cog in an academic wheel. If your child could use personalized instruction, Varsity Tutors can help. We help parents connect with professional Raleigh area tutors who can create custom learning plans for your child.

It’s important to take into consideration how well your child’s school has historically prepared students for nationally standardized exams. Below you can see how some of the biggest schools in Raleigh compare to state averages.

Raleigh Durham Test Scores

Students in Raleigh face the usual national exams such as the ACT and SAT as they approach the end of their academic careers. However, these students also must prepare for End of Grade (EOG) exams as they end grades three through eight. They also face a variety of EOC exams throughout their high school career in a wide range of subjects, including U.S. history, physics, biology, English, economics, and biology.

A personal tutor can be vital in helping your child achieve their academic testing potential. Your child’s tutor can work with them on core academic subjects. One of the most common complaints from students is the pace at which teachers present new information. When a student is struggling with a new concept, a classroom teacher doesn’t necessarily have the time to slow down to review as intensively as the child may need. A personal tutor, however, does have the time to discuss concepts thoroughly and present the information in new and interesting ways that are more aligned with your child’s learning style.

Many of the largest high schools in Raleigh have class sizes near twenty students. It’s important to be aware of just how many students may be in your child’s classes. Below you will find the average number of students in a classroom for the ten largest high schools in the city.

Tutoring review by Tanvi in Raleigh-Durham, NC
The student and I went over about 10 math problems from her practice PSAT book. We went over the answers for all of them but only did the ones she got wrong or didn't understand together. Then we took a stab at a practice PSAT from the test prep website, focusing mainly on the math problems. We worked more on complex algebraic word problems and geometry, which she had the most trouble with. For next week, I asked her to complete the verbal sections so we could go over that.

Tutoring review by Belinda in Raleigh-Durham, NC
This was my last day with the student, and we focused mainly on spelling and math. For spelling, this week's test was all about "ph" and "f" words. She did very well with spelling words such as "graph," but she had a harder time with "nephew" and she often switched around "f" and "ph" for the words that she didn't know. For these words we, wrote them down and I had her say them out loud as she read them to me. Because the "f" and "ph" sound similar and she does a good job listening to the sounds in a word when writing them down, she just needs to memorize the ones that have an "f" or a "ph." We also worked on math, specifically time adding numbers. She feels very confident with adding numbers.
