Varsity Tutors can help you as you prepare for the ACT by setting you up with a reliable Portland Oregon ACT course. College is an essential experience for the majority of high school students. It is the place where you build the foundation for your career and your life in general. Before you start applying for college, you may need to take one of the most widely recognized college admission tests, the ACT.
If you are a high school student who is thinking about going to college, you are probably thinking about taking the ACT too. ACT scores can be used by various colleges and universities to qualify students for admission, and it is one of the two primary tests used by most universities in college admissions decisions.
Therefore, earning a high score on your ACT mean you have a greater chance of securing admission at your preferred college or university. High school students in Portland, including those at St. Mary's Academy and Lincoln High School, take the ACT as one of their preferred college admission exam.
The score can also be used in determining scholarship eligibility in some colleges. If you need financial aid and would like to apply for a scholarship or a grant to cover your college costs, it is advisable to consider preparing for your ACT. In some cases, a good score can improve your chances of securing a scholarship or grant to college.
What does the Portland ACT course cover?
The ACT has four sections that must be completed by every test-taker. These include English, Math, Reading, and Science. There is an additional Writing section, but this is an optional portion of the exam that you will choose whether or not to complete.
The English section consists of 75 multiple-choice questions that should be answered within 45 minutes. For this portion of the exam, you will need to have a firm grasp of correct punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, style, and organization. This segment is designed to measure your understanding of English, production of writing, and knowledge of language skills. The questions are formatted in a multiple-choice format and are based on presented passages. You will be scored within a rage of 1-36.
The Math section consists of 60 questions that should be answered within 60 minutes. The content covered in this segment of the test consists of elementary algebra, pre-algebra, coordinate geometry, intermediate geometry, intermediate algebra, plane geometry, and trigonometry. The questions in this section are also formatted in a multiple-choice style. With only an average of one minute per questions, you will need to compute the math with speed and accuracy to successfully answer all the questions in the time frame allotted.
The Reading section consists of 40 questions that must be answered within 35 minutes. The skills tested during this section include your ability to read a passage and identify the relevant ideas and themes. The questions at this stage of the exam are multiple reasoning questions. You should be able to read keenly and differentiate between facts and opinions in the passage. You will also be required to read and comprehend the text in the passage before answering the questions.
The Science section consists of 40 questions that need to be answered within 35 minutes. The questions measure your analysis, interpretation, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. They are all in a multiple-choice format like the three previously-mentioned sections. You will be required to manipulate and analyze scientific data that will be presented in different formats, and you will need to know the different scientific methods used to solve problems. The topics covered in this section include physics, biology, and chemistry.
The optional Writing section consists of one essay that has to be finished within 40 minutes. Strong writing skills are required if you hope to perform well at this point in the exam. You will need to be capable of organizing your ideas logically, coherently, and clearly to answer this question quickly.
What are the benefits of taking the Portland ACT class?
If you are a student who is interested in taking a Portland ACT class, Varsity Tutors can help by signing you up for an interactive online class that resembles a traditional classroom. There is a new class starting every week, and you can choose between taking the two-week or the four-week sessions.
While taking the class, you can communicate with your instructor as well as other students. This adds a conversational aspect to the class that will allow you to bounce ideas off other students and ask questions regarding any test areas or strategies with which you are struggling. Perhaps another class member has previously stumbled across and conquered an issue you have with the Science section and is willing to share their study-tips. This type of interaction is part of what makes a prep course through our company so valuable to students at any phase in their test-prep journey.
Enrolling in a Portland ACT course can help you build your confidence. Confidence is developed through practice and by acquiring new skills. A course instructor can help you to adequately prepare for the test by providing techniques that will help you build skills in your weaker areas while capitalizing on your strengths.
The courses are both flexible and convenient. Part of that flexibility stems from the variety of course options, as previously mentioned. Another feature of the course that makes it fit into nearly every student's schedule is that it takes place in a virtual classroom. This means that you can participate in the course anywhere you choose, as long as you have an internet connection.

...student, I had a hard time remembering concepts and terms. I had a near perfect attendance record, but still struggled with performing well on tests. I thought to myself, why was this happening?
