The ACT is challenging to prepare for without any guidance because it is a truly comprehensive exam. You'll be tested on many of the most important subjects that you studied throughout your academic career when you take the ACT. If you think that you would benefit from something like a Minneapolis ACT class, then the easiest way to get started with one is by contacting Varsity Tutors today. You can also simply keep reading to get a better idea of what you'll be tested on when taking the ACT and how we can help you prepare for your upcoming exam.
What can you get help with through a Minneapolis ACT course?
Your course will guide you through everything that you need to know before sitting down to take the ACT. Given that, exploring what's tested on the ACT will tell you what you can get help studying for when you sign up to take an ACT course. The ACT has required sections on the topics of English, Science, Reading, and Math. It also has an optional Writing section that you may or may not decide to complete. If you do decide to respond to the Writing section's prompt, then you'll have a total of 3 hours and 35 minutes to finish your entire exam. If you don't, you'll be given 2 hours and 55 minutes to complete the four required test sections.
The ACT's Math section focuses on assessing how well you've learned the math topics that most students have studied by the end of their 11th-grade year. This means that you'll be tested on subject areas like geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and pre-algebra. You'll need to be familiar with functions, interpreting equations, number systems, and much more. Your course can help you develop the Math skills that you need to feel confident when taking this part of the ACT.
Next, you'll need to take the exam's Reading section. This section features 40 multiple-choice questions that test-takers are given 35 minutes to answer. That means you may need to practice answering questions quickly so that you don't run out of time on the day of your exam. Here, you'll be tested on your reading comprehension skill set in a variety of ways. You'll be asked to read a handful of writing passages and then answer questions based on the information in those texts. You'll need to be able to make connections between different passages, differentiate between fact and opinion, and identify central themes in the passages, among other things.
Third, you'll take the ACT's English section. This test section features 75 multiple-choice questions and is graded on a scale ranging from 1 to 36 points. You'll be tested on your knowledge of the conventions that govern the usage of the English language. For example, you'll encounter questions that aim to assess your understanding of the style and tone of language, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and more. If you're not feeling confident with your English language abilities, then taking a prep course is a great way to study for this part of the ACT.
The last required section on the ACT is its Science portion. This part of the exam features 40 multiple-choice questions that aim to assess your understanding of scientific topics and your ability to problem-solve using that information. You'll need to have a solid understanding of subjects like biology, physics, and chemistry, among others to do well on this part of the ACT. You'll also want to feel confident with manipulating and analyzing scientific data and using the scientific method to evaluate and reason in various scenarios.
Finally, the last part of the ACT is its Writing section. As mentioned above, this section is optional. If you do choose to complete this part of the exam, then you'll be given 40 minutes to write an essay based on the prompt that you're given. You'll need to demonstrate your drafting and organization skills as well as your ability to analyze and compare challenging topics. For your work on the Writing section, you'll earn a scale ranging from 2 to 12 based on the strength of your writing.

My goal is to help students reach their full potential and develop enthusiasm for lifelong learning. As an engineer, math and science are my strongest subjects. However, I am also an avid reader and enjoy various subjects such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, and business....
