If you're wondering where to start in the college application process, Varsity Tutors can register you for an Orlando ACT course to support you in this important step towards your undergraduate career. Whether you have goals of becoming an architect or have always hoped to pursue computer science, the ACT is an important hurdle.
The ACT is one of the two most frequently taken United States college entrance exams, and many students at Orlando schools such as Winter Park High School and Timber Creek High School choose to take the ACT. The score you receive on the ACT could play a significant role in your college application process and early preparation is key.
Studying for the ACT can feel quite daunting at the beginning, but now, you do not need to do it alone. Signing up for an Orlando ACT course gives you access to live interactive online courses led by expert educators to help you in your preparation. Moreover, to help you go into the exam feeling maximally prepared, the courses help you to understand in detail how the ACT is structured. Let's take a moment to cover the format of the test.
What are the subjects that an Orlando ACT class helps me to review?
The format of the ACT includes four parts, which an Orlando ACT class can help you to study: Reading, English, Science, and Math, with an optional Writing section. The ACT is 2 hours and 55 minutes long. If you choose to take the optional Writing section, it lasts 3 hours and 35 minutes. Because there is no penalty for guessing, students are strongly encouraged to answer every question on the exam.
In the Reading section, you will be asked 40 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 35 minutes. You will be given a group of passages to read that go along with sets of questions. These passages are usually written at a level that is aligned with first-year college level texts. Useful concepts to study may include understanding relationships, defining words, and identifying key themes and ideas.
In the English section, you will have 45 minutes to answer 75 multiple-choice questions that assess your English language comprehension. For this section, you'll want to master English language topics such as grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
The Science section includes 40 multiple-choice questions over the course of 35 minutes. Questions are based on the subjects of chemistry, earth and space sciences, physics, and biology. For this part of the test, helpful concepts to study include working with data presented in multiple ways and understanding the scientific experimentation process. In some cases, there is also a short experimental section following the Science section, which is not scored.
In the Math section, you will be asked 60 multiple-choice questions over the course of one hour. The subjects include geometry, trigonometry, pre-algebra, and algebra. The questions are written to the level of the skills that you will generally have learned by the start of twelfth grade. Helpful concepts to review include working with graphs, interpreting equations, calculating solid measurements and geometric shapes, and working with data, functions, distributions, and probabilities. Specific types of calculators will be allowed in this part of the test, so make sure you have access to and are familiar with an acceptable option.
Finally, you can also opt to take a Writing section. In this part of the test, you will have 40 minutes to answer an essay question that proposes an issue with three differing opinions based on the question. Your task will be to state your own view on this issue and then to draw connections between your perspective and one or more of the opinions presented in the question. To prepare for this section, helpful strategies may include practicing with drafting and organizing thoughts and paragraphs as well as analyzing and drawing relationships. This part of the exam is hand-written, but there are certain exceptions for students with a diagnosed disability.
What are the ways in which the Orlando ACT course can help me to study?
ACT courses are offered in an online format that is comparable to a classroom structure but is available from your own computer. ACT courses are created in a format that is flexible in order to fit your busy schedule. When you sign up for an Orlando ACT course, you are able to choose between a 2-week course and a 4-week course. New courses start weekly, so it's easy for you to start a course at the time that feels best for you.
There are many ways in which the online course format can benefit you. For example, the collaborative format allows you to work with your peers just like in an in-person setting. Studying in a group setting has been shown to improve comprehension of subject matter. Furthermore, because the courses are interactive, you have the chance to ask questions, which helps both you and your peers to learn. And because the courses are all online, you can sign in no matter where you are, whether you are relaxing at home after dance rehearsal or at your favorite local cafe for a Saturday morning study session. If you find yourself struggling on particular topics more than others, you also have the option to request one-on-one time, during which you can work with an expert instructor on an individual basis.

I feel it is "my thing," and I have been told that I have a way of explaining it in a very clear,...

...have taught middle school mathematics for the past two and a half years. I work with students to help them deepen their understanding through mathematical discourse, scaffolded practice, and a strong familiarity with the Common Core Math Standards, as well as multiple published curricula. I have the most experience tutoring or teaching the following: 6th-8th Grade Mathematics, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus (AB, BC, other), Linear Algebra, College Math, Competition Math.... Learning happens when it's supported by strong relationships - every student learns differently, and the best for me to learn how to best support them is to ask, and to take student responses seriously. Research supports that, while it is important for students to learn to recall key facts, memorization ultimately is not sufficient for retention of learning or transfer of knowledge to other contexts. I work with students to build understanding beyond memorization of procedures or facts.

I look forward to getting to know and work with students to help them achieve their academic goals. On the days when the enthusiasm is there and on the days when learning feels impossible, I aim to be both a motivator and a teacher, consistently providing encouragement alongside solid content.... I believe people are capable of learning anything. That being said, a person's strengths and weaknesses will make some subjects more or less difficult to learn than others. However with persistence, proper instruction, and maximizing strengths in your thinking, you can learn anything.
