We looked over verb forms to prepare the student for class. It is important that he does a spaced study of the material (perhaps daily or every other day) in order to improve long term learning.

The student did a "word brainstorm" of both Medea and The Visit as a strategy in discussing compare/ contrast essays, and in particular, comparing and contrasting these two plays. We used his word list and had, I thought, a very enjoyable discussion about each play. I was quite pleased with the connections he is making between the two. His discussion of both plays are nuanced and articulate. I did not assign any practice for him since we'll be having an additional meeting tomorrow night on a timed-writing essay that is coming up in class, but will go further with this exercise later. I have no concerns; this student is on top of it.

Worked on subjunctive tense. Covered construction and usage. The student is starting to understand differences in usage much faster than she used to. Also continued our reading of The Little Prince.

Languages Tutoring review by Jim in Bellflower, CA
We reviewed the past tense that we started last week, and added a few more verbs to our repertoire for it. I explained how to add adverbs like bien (well), vite (quickly), and pas (not) into the past tense, in between the helping verb (avoir) and the verb. Then, to get some more practice with different verbs in the past tense, the student told the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in French. We kept things in the story a bit simple, so next week we'll add some more elements to it while learning some new vocabulary and more irregular forms of the past tense. He is always fun to work with, and he seems to really enjoy learning languages. He needs to keep reviewing the verbs avoir, tre, aller, and faire, because they'll continue to come up and be useful.

Languages Tutoring review by Kaitlyn in Bellflower, CA
We started out with some vocab practice without flashcards, and the students are getting better at remembering the meanings of words. Then, I got them started on learning the conjugations of basic irregular verbs that are commonly used, ie, etre, avoir, and faire. They were slow to start, and I couldn't get both of them working on the same thing at the same time, but I finally got them there, and I think they began to understand the concept of how to conjugate a verb and why it is important.
