Session Summaries by French Tutors

French Tutoring review by Liz in Kansas City, MO
Today the student took the Lesson 5 Test, which was a cumulative test including concepts from everything we have done so far. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to write the test, and she took an hour and a half to take it. Overall she did very well; she has a strong grasp of the vocabulary and self-corrected many of her own mistakes.

French Tutoring review by Nora in Kansas City, MO
Because the student does not have any upcoming assessments or assignments, we practiced the new vocabulary that her French class has just started learning, which deals with suggestions and advice. We integrated some structure practice by going over the imperative form of relevant verbs. We also went over going beyond the exact repetition of vocabulary phrases as given on class handouts in favor of recombining basic elements in original ways based on the logic of a given situation. I am pleased to see that she is beginning to come out of her shell and becoming more willing to practice speaking French with me.

We reinforced the material previously covered. I introduced a free online book that we would be, in part, working from. We covered new vocabulary including the colors and some basic nouns. Also, we made flashcards of subjective pronouns.

French Tutoring review by Shannon in Kansas City, MO
The student and I continued preparation for her test. She brought all her flashcards and did a vocabulary/verb matching activity, where she matched the French-English words. We pulled aside the one's she still had trouble remembering and reviewed memory tricks. We are planning to meet again tomorrow to do a verb conjugation review activity using cubes and dice.

French Tutoring review by M. Nadjib in Kansas City, MO
During this session we focused primarily on reviewing the vocabulary and expressions we have learned so far, ranging from conversation exchanges centered on introducing oneself, to the description of physical appearance and mood of a person. We then revisited what we learned about the beach, shopping, and eating at a restaurant. Finally, we went over how to give directions (as opposed to asking for them), and started discussing what to say when going to a Hotel. I feel that by now she has made enough progress that we will be gradually shifting from learning vocabulary words and expressions to holding more free flowing conversations in French.

French Tutoring review by Matt in Kansas City, MO
Began to teach the student intensively on the writing process and pre-examination organization and planning in order to help alleviate pressure that he feels so we can work on his grammar problem. Gave The student a lesson on adverbs and their placement, as well as some common ones.
