If you are a student in a Boston area school in need of some assistance with your SAT review, Varsity Tutors can get you connected with excellent Boston SAT prep. If you are nearing the end of your time in an area school such as Boston College High School or Boston Latin School, you may be considering your options for college admissions exams. Many students in your area decide to take on the SAT as their exam of choice. It is important to put in the effort to perform to the best of your abilities on this exam, as your score could be a factor in your admissions to the colleges you have applied for.
The SAT is made up of four sections that will challenge many different skills you have learned throughout your academic career. It will be beneficial to get a comprehensive review, like the one you could get with additional Boston SAT preparation. Whether you prefer the more individualized approach that a Boston SAT tutor will offer or you learn best in a group setting like that of a Boston SAT prep class, you can get the assistance you need to make the most out of your study time.
What can Boston SAT prep help me review?
There are three required sections and one optional section that make up the SAT exam. These sections include the required Math, Reading, and Writing and Language sections and the optional SAT essay. You will be given 3 hours to complete the required sections, with an additional 50 minutes added if you choose to complete the Essay. You will be given one 10 minute break and one 5 minute break within this time frame. Each required section is made up of multiple-choice questions. You will be scored on your overall performance and receive separate sub-scores that provide insight into your individual strengths and areas where you have the opportunity for growth. Let's take a closer look into each of the sections that make up this exam.
You will be given 80 minutes to complete the 58 problems that make up the Math section. There will be 15 multiple-choice questions and 5 grid-ins where you will not be allowed to use a calculator. The rest of the questions will allow you to use a calculator. Some parts will include several questions about a single problem. The problems will range from algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, and advanced math. It will be beneficial for you to have a firm grasp on mathematical fluency, conceptual understanding, and applications.
Next, you will be allowed 65 minutes to answer 52 Reading questions. The questions in this section will be based on short passages. There will be one passage that comes from contemporary, classic, or world literature, one or two passages that come from the United States founding documents, a passage on social sciences, and two or three science-related passages. You will be expected to understand the relationships between text and the accompanying data, how authors present their arguments with evidence, how to utilize words in context, and identify how word choices affect the style, tone, and meaning of the passage. You will also be challenged on your understanding of the passage meanings and on how well you can draw inferences and conclusions.
In the Writing and Language section, you will have 35 minutes to answer 44 questions. Just like in the Reading section, these questions will be passage-based; however, these questions will look for your understanding of the mechanics of writing. You will be asked to make editorial improvements within the provided passages that may be about history, social studies, or science. You may have to make changes on word choice, add or remove punctuation, or correct the sentence structure to improve the clarity of the passages.
If you choose to continue to the optional Essay section, you will be given an additional 50 minutes. In this section, you will be given a passage to evaluate and then write a response, in which you assess the argument that is presented in the passage. The section will challenge your reading, writing, reasoning, idea development, and organizational skills.
How do I know which type of Boston SAT prep is right for me?
Prep courses and private tutoring are both very effective types of review for the SAT with their own unique benefits. You may even find that a combination of both is the right fit for you. Let's delve deeper into what makes each review unique.
If you are interested in getting enrolled in a Boston ACT prep course, you will have the option of choosing between a two- or four-week session in a virtual, interactive classroom. New sessions begin weekly, so you are sure to find one that will fit into your busy schedule. These courses are curriculum-based and will give you a well-rounded and comprehensive review of each skill needed for the SAT.
These courses are collaborative, fully interactive, and are led by an expert instructor. You will be able to chat with the group and ask questions while participating in group activities. You could learn new study skills from your peers as well as gain insight on the exam from the instructor's review. If you need some additional assistance on any sections, you will have the opportunity for some one-on-one time with your instructor.
If you feel that a more customized learning session would be the best fit for you, then a Boston SAT tutor could be the right option. Working in individualized study sessions gives you the opportunity to focus solely on your SAT goals. Working one-on-one also allows an instructor to get to know your learning styles, strengths, and challenges. This can help your tutor create a custom study session with your needs in mind.
How can I get enrolled in one of these Boston ACT prep options?
Whether you already know if you would prefer a prep course or private tutor or if you would prefer to talk to someone to decide on the best fit, Varsity Tutors would be happy to help. Whichever option you choose as the right fit, you can be sure that you will be connected with SAT preparation that can help you reach for your top potential. I've seen how to improve 10 deciles on standardized test--enough to change your options to the next tier of schools--in 3 months. I spent 3 months and 450 hours studying the LSAT. Hi! I am an engineering student at Northeastern University who loves helping people out with all subjects. Standardized tests are just a game against the clock that we can improve in so many ways. ... I have two philosophies. 1. Practice makes perfect. 2. There's an angle to everything. I think there is always more than one way to approach a problem, and typically the test tries to make you think you need to take the harder approach.
