Varsity Tutors can provide students and working professionals who are planning on applying to a graduate program with reliable Boston GRE preparation. The Graduate Records Examination is an assessment that most graduate programs and business schools like Harvard, MIT, and Boston University require applicants to take in order to be considered for admission. This standardized assessment aims to measure important skills that an individual acquires over a period of time such as verbal reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking. The purpose of the GRE test is to determine whether an applicant qualifies for entrance into a school's graduate or business program. That's why scoring well on this broad assessment is imperative.
The GRE is divided into three main sections. The first section is the Analytical Writing, which is then followed by the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning parts of the test. The GRE is administered in over 160 countries around the world and accepted by thousands of colleges and universities. If you are planning on taking the GRE you may want to consider enrolling in a Boston GRE prep course or working with a private tutor.
What Does Boston GRE Preparation Consist Of?
The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections of the test are scored on a scale of 130-170, while the Analytical Writing portion is scored on a scale of 0-6. Test takers are allotted three hours and forty-five minutes to complete the entire exam. Learning the structure of the GRE test prior to taking the examination can help ensure that you are well-prepared on the day of the exam. Here is a breakdown of each section of the GRE.
In the Analytical Writing section, you'll be required to complete two different tasks. Test takers are asked to write two different essays. One is an "argument task," and the other is an "issue task". You will be provided with a prompt based on a general topic, and you'll have to write an essay addressing the topic as you deem fit. The second essay question will typically require you to read and thoroughly critique an argument. This section of the exam analyzes your writing and critical thinking abilities.
Within the Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE, your reading comprehension, vocabulary usage, and critical reasoning skills will be assessed. Students will have to demonstrate their understanding of several written passages by answering the questions associated with each passage. Also, you'll have the opportunity to showcase your vocabulary through sentence completion items. There are about thirty questions to complete in this portion of the exam.
The Quantitative Reasoning section is mathematical in nature, but it is more focused on your ability to solve problems based on quantitative data than on your ability to perform mathematical operations. Still, test takers can expect to solve a variety of math problems that span over the following content areas; algebra, arithmetic, geometry, and data analysis. This section is filled with a mix of both multiple choices and fill in the blank questions.
What Are Some of the Benefits of Boston GRE Prep?
A Boston GRE prep course or a private tutor are the two main options available when it comes to assistance in preparing for the exam. Some students opt to take a GRE prep course, while others feel that would benefit more from a private instructor. For some, a combination of private tutoring and online classes has proved to be beneficial. Fortunately, Varsity Tutors can set you up with both types of Boston GRE prep help.
Achieving an impressive score on the GRE is hard to do without thorough preparation. In a Boston GRE prep class, students will have the opportunity to get an inside look of the format and the type of questions they can expect on the exam. We can sign you up for a comprehensive GRE prep class that takes place in an online interactive space. A prep class is similar to a traditional classroom setting. You'll study side by side with other students who are also preparing to take the GRE under the guidance of a knowledgeable instructor. Students will engage in group activities and discussions that are designed to equip them with the necessary skills to complete the assessment. Research has shown that collaborative learning can increase a student's retention of new learning methods. In a GRE prep class, students can expect to learn a variety of test-taking strategies such as time management, the process of elimination, and analyzing context clues. Based on your learning needs, you may decide to take a two week or four-week prep session. New classes begin every week. You'll also get a chance to have one on one time with the instructor.
If a GRE prep course isn't right for you, consider obtaining the services of a Boston GRE prep tutor. Private Boston GRE prep sessions have proven to be highly effective. Perhaps the biggest benefit of private instruction is that it allows for learning on a customized level. Your private instructor can identify your areas of weakness and develop a learning strategy that is designed to help you improve in such areas. In addition, if you are having trouble embracing specific concepts, your GRE tutor will work hard to increase your understanding of such concepts. Private tutoring sessions take place on the Live Learning Platform, which means you can learn right from home.

...I have experience tutoring students in high school, community college, and students attending Swarthmore. I most enjoy tutoring math and physics, since these are the subjects I love studying most on my own time. Explaining abstract ideas as a TA, as a volunteer in local schools, and as a frequent contributor to the student science magazine were some of my most rewarding experiences in college. Outside of academia, I love the outdoors, especially camping and...

I am a passionate science educator with experience teaching high school students, college students, and adults. I like to teach by building frameworks of understanding with my students, and make sure to treat each case individually.... Every student is different. Instead of covering everything taught in the class, I prefer to focus on problem areas.... I believe that learning is a personal process, and the role of a good teacher or tutor is to facilitate and guide the learning experience. Because of this philosophy, I like to push students to grasp concepts as much as possible, instead of focusing on memorization.

I am a teacher of writing and literature with two Masters from Salem State University, one in English and one in Teaching English. I currently teach high school English, although I am a former biopharmaceutical engineer. I love rhetoric, writing pedagogy, digital composition, and feminist critical theory. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing and English literature. When I'm not tutoring, I love camping, hiking, and horseback riding with my dogs.... My goal as an educator is to do as little teaching as possible. Let me explain: I take my complex and intensive responsibilities to facilitate and oversee genuine learning seriously; however, I do not subscribe to a learning model that relies on the teacher to construct and convey knowledge to her passive and waiting students per Paulo Freire's description of the banking concept. On the contrary, my belief is that engaged, authentic learning happens when students take responsibility for and interest in the information I am asking them to confront and wrestle with. My pedagogical approaches rely on a constructivist view of learning, which pushes students to employ their own knowledge and experience to process information in meaningful ways. My hope is that my students will engage themselves in the search for and construction of their own understanding. Accordingly, in my role as a teacher or tutor, I choose to partner with my students and clients, coming alongside them and joining them as they work independently and with one another to make their own knowledge and meaning. My goal is to do as little of the teaching as possible; instead, I focus on facilitating scenarios, environments, and opportunities that encourage independent, original thought on the part of my students.
