Varsity Tutors would love to help you get ready for the GRE with an in-depth Omaha GRE preparation option. The Graduate Record Examination or GRE is a challenging standardized exam that is usually taken by individuals who are getting ready to apply to graduate programs. For example, you may decide to take the GRE if you're close to finishing your undergraduate degree at schools like Creighton University or the University of Nebraska Omaha. If you perform well on this exam, then you could have a better chance of getting into the graduate programs you'd most like to attend.
However, doing well on the GRE can be challenging to do without a strong test preparation process. Varsity Tutors can help you build your own ideal study plan through the Omaha GRE prep options that we offer. If you think that you would benefit from having help studying for the GRE, then consider reaching out to us today to get started. You can also simply keep reading for more information on this exam and what we can do to help you study for it.
What's covered on the GRE?
One of the reasons that the GRE is so difficult is because it covers a wide range of topics. The exam was designed with the purpose of helping graduate programs assess which or their applicants are most suited for success at the graduate school level of study. To accomplish this goal, the GRE is split into three sections. These sections are discussed in-depth in the following paragraphs.
The first test section is called Analytical Writing. This part of the GRE features two separate tasks. The first task asks test-takers to analyze an issue and the second task asks them to analyze an argument. The Analytical Writing section differs from the other parts of the GRE because you'll respond to the prompts you're given in the written form rather than marking the correct option on a multiple-choice question. The work that you do in this section will be graded based on things like the quality of your writing and the strength of the arguments and analysis you write about.
The next part of the GRE is called Verbal Reasoning. There are two Verbal Reasoning sections on the exam and each features 20 questions. Test-takers will be given 60 minutes to complete the Verbal Reasoning section and will earn a score ranging from 130 to 170 points for their work. The section focuses on skills like reading comprehension, text analysis, interpreting meaning from context, and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a written passage, among other things.
The last section to mention on the GRE is called Quantitative Reasoning. Here, you'll need to demonstrate an understanding of core math subjects like geometry, data analysis, algebra, and arithmetic. You'll be asked to apply your mathematical skill set on questions that may ask you to perform a quantitative comparison or numeric entry. There are two Quantitative Reasoning sections on the GRE and each consists of 20 questions. You'll have an hour and ten minutes to complete your Quantitative Reasoning sections and will be graded on a scale ranging from 130 to 170.
You should also know that the GRE usually has an Experimental Section as well. This part of the test isn't graded, so you don't have to worry about it impacting your final score. However, you won't know which part of your exam is the Experimental Section so you'll need to take each part of the GRE seriously. This part of the test is included so that the test makers can gather data and figure out whether or not they want to include experimental questions on future GRE exams. Varsity Tutors can help you prepare for all of these sections with the test preparation supplement of your choice.

...to "guide learning" rather than just reciting facts or "teaching at" a student. I believe that discovery is the most exciting way to learn as well as the best method for producing long-term recall; it also tailors every learning experience to the individual student. I was most inspired to pursue this Socratic style of teaching after taking several courses in college from a professor who had perfected the technique. The majority of his class-time revolved...

Matthew: Omaha GRE test prep instructor
I have four years of teaching experience in a variety of roles from principal instructor of college math classes to one-on-one mentoring with high school students. I am passionate about social justice, novel mathematics education, and increasing diversity in STEM majors and careers. Currently, I am working on a thesis in discrete geometry and combinatorics, as well as doing research for UCSF where I...... The philosophy that I bring to every class and tutoring session is that it is going to be a period of high intensity training. However I assume that for the student, it is only the beginning of their training, and that for every hour spent in class in a tutoring session with me, at least one hour will be spent in self-study to completely master the topic. Together we lay the groundwork and the pace for that study. Tutoring is not be an extension of lecture, but a training session where I expect a high level of student effort, attention and creativity. My method is to quickly develop a casual but engaging rapport with the student so that we feel comfortable making mistakes in front of each other and are able to collaborate on a learning method rather than drilling problems. The aim is twofold: to help students realize the level of commitment, work, and intellectual awareness required to really master subjects, as well as to instill confidence that they are capable of doing so.
