If you are in the market for comprehensive Houston GRE prep, Varsity Tutors can lend a hand. The GRE, or Graduate Records Examination, is accepted by thousands of colleges and universities around the world. This exam can give you the opportunity to demonstrate your strengths to potential graduate, law, or business schools. Your score can help schools determine whether you have what it takes to succeed in the courses offered. No matter where you are at in your preparation, Varsity Tutors can get you started with qualified, thorough test review that suits you.

The GRE allows you up to three hours and 45 minutes to complete it. Most parts of the world administer the exam by computer. In all, there are three sections on the GRE that aim to assess your critical thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving, and other skills that are critical to success at a graduate level.

What can Houston GRE prep cover?

The three sections of the GRE are Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Overall, the exam covers a comprehensive set of academic skills and abilities that you are necessary. While the Analytical Writing section is always presented first, the remaining sections can appear in any order. In addition, there is a Research section and an Experimental section. Let's start with a look at the Analytical Writing portion of the GRE.

The Analytical Writing section consists of two tasks: one that requires you to analyze an issue and one to analyze an argument. You will have thirty minutes to work on each task. You will need strong communication and time management skills to present your responses in a clear and organized way. This section assesses your ability to support your thoughts and ideas with evidence as well.

There are two subsections in the Verbal Reasoning section with an hour in full to complete them. Each sub-section consists of 20 questions that split into three types: sentence equivalence, text completion, and reading comprehension. There is a broad range of skills these questions aim to assess, such as passage summarization, drawing conclusions and inferences from the text, and reaching conclusions from incomplete information. Some questions will focus on a single sentence while others relate to a passage.

The Quantitative Reasoning section is also split into two sub-sections, one of which allow you access to a calculator. Like Verbal Reasoning, each sub-section spans 20 questions. Questions are presented in multiple formats: quantitative comparison, numeric entry, and multiple-choice, some of which have multiple correct answers. You will need to have an understanding of algebraic, arithmetic, geometry, and data analysis concepts. This section assesses your reasoning and problem-solving skills in quantitative situations.

The Research and Experimental sections are unscored portions that serve to try out potential future questions. It is not guaranteed that you will get one or either of these sections. The Research section is identified, optional, and presented at the end of the GRE. However, the Experimental section is embedded in the Quantitative or Verbal Reasoning section without identification. It is important to treat every question on this exam sincerely.
