What does an Austin GMAT prep cover?

The GMAT is made up of different questions that will test your overall skills. The test consists of four sections: Analytical Writing, Quantitative, Verbal, and Integrated Reasoning. You can select the order in which to take the different sections. The total time allowed for the four sections is three hours, seven minutes. Let's take a closer look at the GMAT so you'll get an idea of what things you need to study before the big day.

The Analytical Writing Assessment is a 30-minute writing test. It will test your ability to analyze arguments and express your thoughts in writing. Two ratings will be given for your essay, which will then be averaged to decide your final score. One rating is given by an individual from the Graduate Management Admission Council, and another is given by a computer. In case the two ratings vary by more than one point, an expert will reevaluate your essay and give the final score.

The Quantitative Reasoning section tests mathematical skills, but also challenges test takers to think conceptually rather than just perform complex computations. It is in multiple-choice format. You have 62 minutes to finish this section. The two types of questions are problem solving and data sufficiency. The former requires the test taker to use logic and analysis to solve problems. You have to pick from one of five choices. The latter, meanwhile, requires identification of relevant data to answer the problem. You will have to use your math and reasoning skills to determine when there is enough data to answer the question.

The Verbal Reasoning section has a duration of 65 minutes. Also in a multiple-choice format, the questions involve sentence correction, reading comprehension, and critical reasoning. Each question has five options. Sentence correction tests grammar and communication skills. You should choose the option that correctly expresses the intent of the sentence. Next, reading comprehension will test your ability to analyze information and make a conclusion. Passages can be one to several paragraphs long. In critical reasoning, you will evaluate arguments and form an action plan.

And finally, the Integrated Reasoning section will measure your ability to analyze data presented in different formats. In this section of the GMAT, you'll be given 30 minutes to answer 12 questions. The different types of questions are graphics interpretation, multi-source reasoning, table analysis, and two-part analysis. This section will test how well you can solve complicated problems. Doing well on this part of the test indicates that you can make right decisions based on the information you are given.
