We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader. and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

We worked on equations that required multiple steps to find a variable. For instance, something like 8-2x=30. It was review for the student, but I think it clarified some things for him.

Algebra Tutoring review by Darren in West Jordan, UT
The student's focus yesterday was better than it had been on Tuesday. He wanted to start with a few problems from his algebra homework (mostly dealing with multiplying equations involving fractions by a common denominator), so we worked through a few that he had been struggling with. We also worked on a section of word problems to help him with the process of translating problems in prose into algebraic form. He did well with these (and got excited about getting correct answers). He still needs to work on reviewing some basic arithmetic facts/mental math, which will help his speed on the exam. We have paused a few times to work on shortcuts/reminders for things like dividing by 5, 9, and 11, multiplying 2-digit numbers, etc. We ended with grammar. We also took time to review adverbs, perfect/past perfect, various plural possessives, to vs. too, and I vs. me situations.
