The student has a test this Wednesday. After working through the two assignments his teacher had given, we also did the problems from the chapter review. The student did well overall. He still doesn't have all of his formulas completely memorized, but he knew how to use them all. He also had some difficulty with trig equations where the angle was a multiple. I suggested he work on these more in the coming days.

Tutoring review by Kasra in Midway, UT
In this session, we worked to prepare the student for his exam tomorrow covering quadratic equations and factoring. Although his technical ability regarding factoring and solving quadratic equations is very good, he still feels a bit uncomfortable with word problems. Much like other students, he has some difficulty translating word problems to equations he can solve, which is definitely the toughest step in word problems. So, we spent most of our time working on this skill, and he definitely improved a lot over our time together. I helped him brainstorm some strategies he can use to ensure he approaches these types of problems in the best way, and he seemed to have a pretty positive outlook on his upcoming test. Overall, I know the student has the potential to do very well on this exam, and I look forward to hearing how it goes.

Tutoring review by Rebecca in Midway, UT
The students had a test on factoring and remembered some questions from the test with which they had struggled. We talked about solving for x in a quadratic equation when the quadratic couldn't be factored, and we even practiced using the quadratic formula. We solved for x with both factorable and unfactorable quadratics and compared the answers. (Rational solutions and irrational solutions, respectively.) We also practiced other types of factoring, using examples from one of their recent homework sets, on which she missed a few problems. Because their semester exam is next Wednesday, we used the remaining time to study problems from the first seven chapters that they have studied this semester. Both are continuing to improve their basic algebra skills and are very capable of solving problems correctly on the first try.
