Today the student and I went over the material from her milestone tests. I explained some of the concepts in detail, so she is fully confident about it. I also went over the method that she should use when going over her notes when studying for tests, and asked her to repeat that task for homework.

We covered limits: properties, operations, and squeeze theorem. She seemed to understand most things upon explanation. I expect that she will do very well once we complete the review section and she remembers concepts from previous courses.

Tutoring review by William in Riverton, UT
The first exercise I gave the student was a simple paragraph in which he was to identify the topic sentence, a sentence that did not fit, and then state how each of the rest of the sentences modified the topic sentence. Then I had him write a paragraph of his own on anything he liked about his school. In our discussion and critique of the paragraph, he was to point out the topic sentence and then explain how each of his sentences related to the topic sentence. We then went through the 10 step revision process I had taught him from the week before. In doing so, his paragraph was reduced greatly in length, because he eliminated many repetitious words and phrases. We will continue to do more paragraph work before we move into lengthier essay writing.

Tutoring review by Courtenay in Riverton, UT
The student worked 3/4 of the way through the area unit. She did well connecting how we can tile the rectangle to figure out area to the mathematical formula length x width. She struggled on the multi-step challenge problem at the middle of the unit. It gave her a 3x6 rectangle whose area she figured out like all the others, but then asked her to imagine how many rows you would need to add to make the first rectangle's area in between 25 and 36 square units and find the new area, length and width. I had her draw the problem to solve it, and as the unit progresses we will have more progress with imagining new areas.
