Tutoring review by Alena in Sandy, OR
We started the session with reviewing the unit circle and the value of trigonometric functions on the unit circle. I also introduces the table approach of defining the 0-30-45-60-90 degree trigonometric functions. After that we reviewed coterminous and reference angles. The second part of the session was solving basic trig equations for one period or for all solutions. The last part of the season was solving trig equations for any angle and using a graphing calculator.

Tutoring review by Ian in Sandy, OR
We went over section 4.5-- solving proportions (e.g., 12/x = 40/48, solve for x). The student knew how to solve for x when it was in the numerator quite well, but had trouble when the variable was in the denominator. We first did a problem the formal, traditional way by multiplying both sides by both denominators to understand how that helps us to isolate the variable. Then we talked about the shortcut of using cross multiplication. She took to the cross multiplication astoundingly quickly, even though she had never seen it before. This leads me to believe that she is strong in methodology (procedures and tricks).

Tutoring review by Bethine in Sandy, OR
We spent the majority of this session working on stoichiometry. We practiced conversions using somewhat simple chemical equations, then progressed to different types of conversions and more complicated equations. We worked a lot at how to set up the problem and translate from the words to chemical symbols. The student was able to easily solve problems that she could not do on Tuesday! Good work! We also worked on theoretical, actual, and percent yield problems. After she understood the vocabulary, she did very well with these types of problems as well.
