Today, I administered a quiz and a test in history after reviewing the chapter with her. We crossed over subjects blending history and English as we discussed the Harlem Renaissance, and I assigned her a poetry comparison between two Harlem Renaissance writers. I challenged her to look deep into the poems to uncover themes that she could discern in context with her history readings on the Reconstruction after the Civil War.

We covered the regression line equation, the equation for correlation coefficient, interpretation of slope, interpretation of the coefficient of determination, residual plots, analyzing residual plots, etc. The student's attitude was very positive and comfortable, I tried to let the student do the problems on her own. She is more comfortable with the material.

Tutoring review by Katharine in Oradell, NJ
We worked on the problem of the day from the math counts website, which is a resource I will start using as enrichment for the student. We had good success with the problem. It was a three part question that presented familiar ideas but challenged him to think through to the solution. In particular, we spent some significant time reviewing how to solve percent problems using proportions and cross multiplication. He did a great job of thinking outside the box and coming up with ideas for solutions, even if they weren't always correct. He seemed to be able to understand his mistakes and grasp the correct solutions after a bit of explanation. Overall, it was a good session.

Tutoring review by Junior in Oradell, NJ
The main concept we covered was that of designing "Statement-Reason" proofs involving parallel lines cut by a transversal. Strategies consisted of finding vertical <s congruent, transitive properties, and substitution using the given information. For the student's upcoming test on Thursday, we did additional review of concepts related to angles formed by parallel lines in order to find the value of x in a related diagram. Generally, her understanding and ability to solve such equations is good. She proceeded to do her assigned homework problems for Wednesday as well.
