Tutoring review by Alonso in East Wenatchee, WA
The student has begun working on the trigonometry section of algebra 2. We reviewed a little bit of the unit circle and then evaluated sine and cosine at various angles. He's pretty good with the basic unit circle angles so I just checked his work and explained how to invert the sine and cosine functions. We also did a little bit of ACT math work. I explained how to use combinations and permutations to answer counting problems.

The student and I reviewed questions that directly relate to his Monday math quiz. He understands all concepts and is geared up for success. The only caveat is that he MUST write down his work. He processes problems extremely quickly, and sometimes skips/ omits steps in his head. Overall I'm expecting to see an excellent grade on this quiz.

Tutoring review by Anna Livia in East Wenatchee, WA
The student and I worked on both reading and math for this final session before her SAT. She did the math section on her own and did pretty well--getting only 2 wrong and skipping 4. We went over 4/6 of those questions because they were all ones she was very close on. The other 2 were questions on material she was uncomfortable with and would likely skip no matter what. We worked through a reading section together after that. The first half of the long passage I read and explained my process for answering the questions, and she did the same for the second half. She said she appreciated how I modeled how I would answer the questions, as I showed her a few annotating and other types of strategies to answer all the questions without forgetting information.

We spent two hours on all three areas of the LSAT. I think the student is doing really well with studying and just needs to work hard the next two weeks to correct little errors. Timing-wise he is doing very well. The only big correction I have is for LG, where he should make sure to check his earlier answers if he corrects a rule halfway through the game. Next session, we will focus on LR.

This session, we primarily went over derivatives. The power rule for derivatives was the main concept covered, and we went over some examples the student did in class as well as some of the homework she was assigned. We also reviewed her previous quiz, on which she did well.
