Tutoring review by Alex in Cicero, NY
The student has improved substantially in her ability to manipulate linear equations and uni-variable expressions, and perhaps even more so with setting up word problems. She has mastered the functions effortlessly. She has an exam coming up, so this will shed some light on how well she knows the math subjects so far.

Tutoring review by Arpita in Cicero, NY
We covered 20 problems in the student's SSAT prep book. The topics included: word problems on percentages, fractions, order of operations, mean/median/mode, LCM, odds/probability, etc. The student needed help mostly with order of operations and odds/probability type of questions. For the problems he did not know how to do, I would explain the concept while solving the problem. I then asked him to do the same problem without referring back to how I did it. With a few cues, he understood the newer concepts and was able to come to the same answer. I advised him to write down the steps and read the questions carefully to make sure he is not missing anything.

Tutoring review by Antonio in Cicero, NY
Today the student and I went through a number of ACT reading passages. I attempted to pinpoint his primary difficulties with reading and found the issue to be two-fold: his inability to grasp vocabulary to decode the passage and his unfamiliarity with the nature of standardized testing. Understanding this, I resolved to educate him in the process of finding evidence for every answer he chooses. I helped him in pinpointing the exact areas of passages that provide the information that is sought after and when he was successfully able to do this, he was often correct in finding the answer. He needs to remember to do this always. In regard to vocabulary, rather than trying for rote memory, I want to expose him to different passages that use complex vocabulary. I asked him to read the first chapter of Oliver Twist by tomorrow. We will spend time decoding that passage and also more time on the prose reading sections.
