Tutoring review by Kyle in Bridgeport, NY
The student completed his pre-calc project word problems which had us modeling sinusoidal functions from real-life situations. For the last two problems, he picked up much quicker on how to set them up, and I taught him a trick for using his graphing calculator to figure out the answer more quickly. We then completed the first 3 problems of his practice exam, which he understands very well.

We went over two of the student's homework assignments. The first of which involved simplifying rational expressions by finding a common denominator. The second of which involved solving rational equations where a real life problem was proposed, and it was required to write a rational equation to model the situation.

We reviewed fractions to decimals as pinpointed during last session as an area needing review. I taught the correlation between a unit circle and the trig functions, and an easy way to learn the sine, cosine, and tangent values for the common angles (0, 30, 45, 60, 90 ... 360 degrees and equivalent radians). I tested to ensure that she truly knew all of these while she was looking at unit circle. Eventually she will need to learn these without having a fully-labeled unit circle with degree/ radian values.

We covered partial derivatives and implicit differentiation. The student needed some time to get used to treating variables as constants, but he seemed to have a better grasp of this concept as we worked through problems. I would recommend he practice these so they seem automatic as this concept will be used often in the course.

Tutoring review by Corbin in Bridgeport, NY
For this session, the student and I again focused exclusively on solving equations finding the domain and range of a function in terms of x and y. He mentioned that he understood how to find the domain of a function but still had a little difficulty on solving for the range of a function. We also focused on how to sketch graphs of a function and solving equations using independent and dependent variables.

The student had a test on Tuesday, so we went over the test review. It focused on finding the roots to polynomials, dividing polynomials by binomials, and completing the square. She seemed to understand synthetic division and how to find the roots of functions.
