Tutoring review by Neil in Baldwinsville, NY
The student and I had a good session. Her teacher is having them review some properties of triangles, so we worked on using the law of sines to solve triangles! She seemed like she grasped the concepts pretty well when we got started. The biggest problem she made was misplacing some of the values from the problems. Our next session is scheduled for next Tuesday at 4:30 pm.

We reviewed series, sequences, and limits. I showed her how to spot an arithmetic and geometric sequence (as well as the difference between them). We also reviewed multiple questions, and she was able to go through them after some quick guidelines. I then gave her a quick rundown of limits and the rules that apply to them. We went over a couple of problems, and she seemed to get the hang of it. We continued practicing until she felt confident in the material. She takes the test on Thursday.

We started with a "completing the square" worksheet, which was pretty simple. Then, we moved on to a worksheet on circles. It required the student to complete the square for both x and y and to format the equation in standard circle form. He didn't have much trouble with this, so we steadily worked through the worksheet. He was pretty attentive and had energy throughout the whole session. Overall it was a good session.

Tutoring review by Eunki in Baldwinsville, NY
The student and I discussed the exam he took recently. He said he did very well on everything except the last lesson, which he missed and wasn't able to sufficiently devote enough time to prepare for the exam while also focusing on previous lessons to improve. He noticed that had he not have to do the last three problems from the last lesson, he would have done extremely well. He explained that a re-test would be given the next day. and he could improve his score to a B. Hence, we focused primarily on the word problems that gave him issues, which he had no problem understanding and mastering - he just needed a little more time to go over the last lesson. I left feeling confident he would have no trouble with this segment, but I did advise him not to forget to review the other lessons since these too would be tested just like the last exam. I would be very surprised if he did not improve. His confidence and his knowledge base are both strong, and he is in a good position to do much better.

The student's algebra teacher is re-administering the Ch. 8 test on Tuesday, so we reviewed the relevant concepts. He remembered most of them, and we practiced the "table method" from section 8.7 a few times (I had not worked on that section with him previous). Afterwards we started working through his Mastering Biology assignment, and got through roughly 40 of the 89 pages.

Tutoring review by Abigail in Baldwinsville, NY
Today the student and I worked on ratios, clearing up some questions she had about how to do her ratios homework for class and how different kinds of ratio questions are similar/ different. We focused on study skills, and she revised her flashcards and notes to ensure she had good examples she can use on her own. We also started a flashcard review for her to practice some skills we've gone over recently and clarify her study materials for herself. She did a great job asking specific questions about areas where she was confused.
