If you're preparing to apply to a prestigious business school such as the University of Arizona - Eller College of Management, Varsity Tutors can set you up with the best Tucson GMAT prep opportunities.
The GMAT, also known as the Graduate Management Admissions Test, has been the most commonly used MBA admission exam for over 60 years. In fact, nine out of ten business school enrollments are made based on a GMAT score. For this reason, it is vital to put your best foot forward when taking your GMAT exam. Signing up for Tucson GMAT prep can give you the edge you need against other applicants.
What does Tucson GMAT preparation cover?
The GMAT is comprised of four sections intended to evaluate your ability to think critically: the Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. The skills you are being assessed on in this exam are specifically designed to evaluate your potential for academic success in today's graduate management and business programs. Let's take a closer look at what each portion of the exam will expect you to have mastered.
The Analytical Writing Assessment measures your ability to analyze an argument which has been given to you in written form. This section of the exam contains only one question, and you must finish it within 30 minutes. You are not required to have any prior knowledge of the topic; you simply need to determine if you believe the argument presented has made good use of the evidence. This section is judging your ability to organize, develop, and express your ideas clearly using critical thinking and solid examples.
The Integrated Reasoning section of the exam is appraising your capacity to analyze and synthesize information from various sources. There are four types of questions in the segment: multi-source reasoning, table analysis, graphics interpretation, and two-part analysis. Some of these questions will require more than one response, and you must answer all the parts correctly to receive credit. Multi-source reasoning questions assess your ability to evaluate data from different sources and answer multiple questions. Table analysis questions determine whether you are able to look at a table of data and determine if you have the information necessary to solve a problem. Graphics interpretation questions measure your ability to evaluate data presented in a scatterplot, bar chart, or other types of graphic in order to make inferences into certain relationships. Two-part analysis questions assess whether you are able to solve complex problems with multiple steps. This section contains 12 questions and must be finished within a half hour, so it is essential to be able to move through these questions quickly and efficiently.
The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to determine whether you have sufficient data to answer a problem and use critical thinking to solve an issue. This section has 31 multiple-choice questions, and you must be finished within 62 minutes. On this part of the exam, you must have a foundational knowledge of algebra, geometry, and arithmetic concepts, but you are not specifically being tested on your mathematical skills. Instead, you are being evaluated on your ability to use the skills to think critically and solve problems of a quantitative nature.
The Verbal Reasoning section measures your reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction skills. This part of the exam consists of 36 multiple-choice questions which you must finish within 65 minutes. Reading comprehension and critical reasoning questions require you to read and understand a passage. You must be able to understand relationships between main ideas, draw inferences, and determine whether an answer option strengthens or weakens an argument. For sentence correction questions, you must showcase your ability to edit sentences so they are grammatically and structurally correct.
When you arrive on exam day, you will be given the opportunity to decide which sequence you wish to take the sections in. There are three options, and you only have a few minutes to make this decision. Signing up for Tucson GMAT prep can help you to make this determination before you even walk in on exam day, so you don't have to worry about it. Talking this decision over with a course instructor or private tutor can help you weigh the pros and cons, which can help you make the best decision for your skills and abilities.
What are the benefits of a Tucson GMAT prep class or tutor?
Varsity Tutors offers two types of Tucson GMAT preparation: collaborative prep courses and private GMAT tutors. Both of these options have been designed to help you get a deeper understanding of the required concepts. Each option, however, has its own benefits, so let's take a closer look at the two options.
If you prefer a traditional classroom setting, an online Tucson GMAT prep course may be the right choice for you. In a group course, you will join an expert teacher and your classmates in an interactive online classroom. You'll be able to engage in group discussions and activities that can help you practice the skills you'll need. Working in this kind of collaborative environments can help you learn the concepts more quickly and retain the knowledge longer. If you are having a hard time with specific material, you also have the opportunity to set aside one-on-one time with your teacher.
If you prefer a more personal approach to learning, you may wish to get connected with a Tucson GMAT tutor. Private instruction gives you the opportunity to receive customized lesson plans which have been created specifically with your needs in mind. By assessing your personal strengths, weaknesses, and preferred learning style, your private academic mentor can help you ensure you are studying the right skills to get your best possible GMAT score.

...minor in Spanish during my undergrad. When I was 17, I graduated early from high school and spent two months in Guatemala at a Spanish language school. In college, I participated in a Spanish language drama club, and I directed a play in Spanish, produced at a local theater. Last spring, I traveled to South America and spent four months in Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, backpacking, camping, and eating lots of food.... When I teach, I like to ask lots of questions. Reading and writing requires lots of discussion and thinking out loud, so getting the student to participate in the conversation is very important to me. I also like to use humor, and I joke around a lot. I think most material can be interesting and fun if it's approached with the right attitude.
