I am a local high school teacher. I have been teaching and tutoring in some capacity for the past six years, and I have an extensive background in test preparation for the GRE and SAT tests. In 2013, I graduated from Occidental College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, after which I taught high school math and science for one year. I then continued my education, completing my Masters of Science in Education in 2016. During grad school, I spent 20 hours per week, through my assistantship, tutoring students preparing to take the GRE.
I have returned to teaching high school math and science, as well as SAT prep. During my time as an educator, I have had success teaching a wide range of students, from middle school aged individuals, to traditionally aged college students, to adult learners preparing to take the GED and GRE exams. Although I tutor a wide variety of subjects, I enjoy tutoring in math most greatly, as I love the puzzle-like aspect of mathematics, and I am passionate about helping students who do not see themselves as "math people" to re-frame their perspectives of themselves as mathematicians.
In addition to tutoring the math sections of the GRE, SAT, PSAT, and ACT, I have extensive experience teaching all sections of the SAT and GRE, writing, middle and elementary school subjects, Algebra I and Geometry, and Psychology. For a comprehensive list of the subjects in which I tutor, please refer to the subjects section of my profile. As an educator, I firmly believe in the importance of taking ownership of one's learning. Accordingly, I will push all of my students not only to learn subject content, but to take an active role in applying critical thought and problem solving to the information we explore as well. I believe that tutoring must be a learning experience that is sustainable such that the student is able to carry and apply the lessons learned in their future endeavors, in the absence of a tutor.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time outdoors, including hiking, camping, and kayaking. I also love traveling locally and outside of the state, and adventure is one of my biggest passions!
