Varsity Tutors has options for anyone who is looking for qualified Portland GMAT preparation as they head toward exam day. If you plan to apply to MBA programs locally or around the country, you will likely be asked to take the GMAT, or Graduate Management Admission Test. This test is designed to predict whether you will perform well in future business school classes, so admissions offices often use your score as one of the determining factors as to whether they will accept you into their program. Performing well on the GMAT can be a significant boost toward getting into the school of your choosing. In order to perform up to your full potential on the test, you should take the preparation process very seriously.
The GMAT is not an easy exam. It will probably be one of the largest challenges you face as you apply for business school. But there are ways that you can prepare for the exam that could give you a better chance to succeed. Whether you are currently an undergraduate student or a working professional, if you are seeking help while getting ready to take the exam, there are services to choose from that fit your needs.
What are the subject areas that are covered during Portland GMAT prep?
There are four sections that make up the GMAT: Integrated Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning, as well as an Analytical Writing Assessment. You have three and a half hours total to complete the four sections, which each cover a variety of subtopics and consist of various question types. When taking the test, you are given three choices as to what order you would like to complete the sections in, so not every participant will experience the test in the same way. Regardless, there are certain concepts you will need to know and skills you will have to possess.
The Analytical Writing Assessment is the most different from the other three sections. After being presented with a written argument, you will have 30 minutes to complete a single essay. This section is completed on a computer. The goal is to measure your abilities as a writer to convey clear and concise messages. You will be asked to read and evaluate the argument that you are presented with and then craft a response consisting of fully developed and organized ideas. Your composition is evaluated both by the computer system for structural and linguistic integrity as well as human educators for your expression and organization of ideas. You will receive a score on this section ranging from 0 to 6.
The Verbal Reasoning section also tests your command of the language but in a different way. You are given 65 minutes to answer 36 multiple-choice questions that fall into the categories of sentence correction, critical reasoning, and reading comprehension. Each of these question types will provide you with written passages that you then have to evaluate for things like grammar and logic. This section receives a score from 0 to 60.
Quantitative Reasoning is similar in format. You are given 62 minutes to complete 31 questions and are also scored on a scale from 0 to 60. In this section, questions will fall into one of two categories. Problem-solving questions ask you to use analytical reasoning to solve problems and choose the best answer provided. Data sufficiency tests your abilities to identify and evaluate relevant data and determine if there is enough provided to come to a proper conclusion.
The final section, Integrated Reasoning is 12 questions long and you are given 30 minutes to complete it. Questions in this section will provide you with multiple sources of data that you need to analyze and distinguish from one another in order to arrive at correct answers. You will need to be able to properly read graphics, text, tables, and other sources so you can identify the relationships between them and solve complex problems. This section is scored from 1 to 8.
What are the different approaches to Portland GMAT prep and what benefits are there to each?
The two main types of GMAT preparation offered by Varsity Tutors are prep courses and private instruction. Each of these approaches has its own benefits, and if you want the best of both worlds, you can combine the two.
When you take part in a Portland GMAT prep course, you will receive instruction that is in many ways similar to the classroom teaching you have likely experienced for most of your life. The biggest difference is that classes are conducted entirely online. You, your fellow classmates, and your instructor can cover the relevant material from a number of different perspectives to give you a more thorough understanding of the subjects.
Your teacher and other members of the class can also share test-taking strategies and tips for what to do when you encounter a particularly difficult portion of the exam. A Portland GMAT prep class also includes the opportunity to spend some time in a one-on-one learning environment with your teacher.
If that sort of personalized instruction is what you prefer to take part in, you might be better off signing up to work with a Portland GMAT tutor. When you work with a private instructor, you can take part in lesson plans and study session that are customized to your personal strengths. You can meet with your tutor using our online Live Learning Platform or in person at a location that is convenient for you. This approach lets you work at a pace that is comfortable to you and focus on the areas where you need the most improvement.
