If you're a student who is currently attending a Tampa school such as the Academy of the Holy Names or Plant High School, Varsity Tutors would be happy to set you up with an exceptional Tampa SAT course. The SAT is a standardized exam accepted by all US colleges and universities for admissions purposes. The exam takes three hours when you elect to opt out of the optional SAT essay assessment. This exam is one of the first obstacles you will face as you prepare to earn admission to the college or university of your choice. The three required sections assess your Math, Reading, and Writing and Language skills. Each of the sections receives a separate sub-score, which can provide insight into your personal areas of opportunity and individual strengths. With so much riding on a single exam, you want to do everything you can to put your best foot forward as you work to impress the admissions office at the college of your choice. A Tampa SAT class can help you effectively and efficiently prepare to take this critical exam.

What can a Tampa SAT course cover?

Each section of the SAT evaluates your abilities in a different subject. The Reading test evaluates your reading comprehension and reasoning skills. The Writing and Language section assesses your grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation skills. The Math assessment measures your problem-solving and analytical skills and ability to understand mathematical expressions. The optional essay evaluates your ability to understand and present an argument while supporting it with solid evidence. A Tampa SAT class can help you work on improving skills and all of the sections. Let's take a closer look at each section, starting with the optional Essay.

When you elect to take the Essay, you will have 50 minutes to respond to a single essay question. For this assessment, you will need to read a passage and consider whether the author has made proper use of evidence and reasoning to develop his or her ideas. This is not an essay where you are expected to explain whether or not you agree with the author's argument. You are only asked to assess the argument and whether the claims and evidence are sufficient to support the author's claim. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to present your ideas in an organized and focused essay using proper written English rules. An SAT prep course can help you hone these skills and provide constructive criticism in the areas in which you need to improve.

The next section is the SAT Reading assessment, which consists of 52 questions. You will have 65 minutes to complete this section of the SAT and will need to use given passages to find evidence to support answers or provide the basis for a logical conclusion. Passages can come from classic US literature, United States founding documents, social science selections related to economics, or science passages regarding foundational concepts in chemistry earth science. You will need to be able to utilize context clues to understand what a word or phrase means, in addition to being able to identify how word choice can affect style, meaning, or tone of the passage. An SAT prep course can help you practice identifying relationships between texts and accompanying data.

The SAT Writing and Language assessment consists of 44 questions, which you must finish within 35 minutes. All questions in this section will come from the provided passages and some of these passages will include tables, charts, or graphs. Prior knowledge of the information in the texts is not a part of the test since all the answers to the questions can be found directly within the provided passages. In this section, you will need to improve how passages develop information and ideas and be able to add relevant supporting details. You will need to showcase your ability to make a passage more concise and improve its syntax, style, or tone. Your SAT review for the section should include standard English conventions such as verb tense, subject verb agreement, parallel construction, punctuation use, and sentence structure. Working under the supervision of a knowledgeable instructor can help you improve your ability to make word and structure changes in order to improve a passage's clarity.

The final section of the ACT is the Math section, which consists of 58 questions. You are allowed 80 minutes to finish this portion of the exam. The Math section is actually broken into two separate parts and you are only permitted to use a calculator during one portion. The questions you will find in the Math portion of the SAT are algebra problems and problem-solving and data analysis problems. An SAT prep class can help you practice carrying out mathematical procedures accurately and efficiently so you can move through the section with ease and confidence. You will need to demonstrate your ability to make connections between properties of linear equations and their graphical representations. You will also need to analyze a real-world problem and determine how to solve the problem mathematically.

Preparing for the SAT doesn't need to be a lonely or frustrating experience. Varsity Tutors is here to support you as you prepare for this critical exam.
