If you're focusing on SAT prep, Varsity Tutors can help you get started in a Madison SAT class. These classes help you experience a more complete review than you'd likely be able to achieve on your own. The SAT provides colleges and universities with a look at how well you'd perform in their classes if granted admission to the school. Taking this test can be a major determining factor when applying to the school of your dreams. If you want to apply yourself and do your best, it's important to know where to start. Most students in Madison, including those at West High School and Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart, take the ACT in their junior or senior year, but many also take the SAT. If you want to do your best and reach for your goal score, it's worth the time to invest in a class that can help you prepare.
If you enjoy working in a classroom environment, a Madison SAT prep course can provide you with all the benefits you're looking for. You'll get to work alongside your fellow students in an online classroom environment that promotes teamwork and is led by a qualified instructor. SAT courses provided by Varsity Tutors can help you understand the content and layout of the test before taking it.
The SAT is made up of three sections, which include Math, Reading, and Writing and Language. There is also an optional SAT Essay. By applying yourself and doing your best, you can show schools what you're capable of. Since this test mimics similar questions that you'll deal with in a normal college class, working toward a high score and doing your best can go a long way.
What could a Madison SAT class help me review?
The SAT covers topics that you've learned about in high school and evaluates your readiness for college. It's important to know that there's no penalty for guessing, so even if you're not sure about a question, it doesn't hurt to guess. The questions are presented as multiple-choice, with the exception of the essay. Overall, the test lasts 3 hours, with an extra 50 minutes for the Essay portion. There is a 10-minute break and a 5-minute break during the test. Because there's so much covered, it's important to learn as much as you can with a Madison SAT course so you walk in knowing what to expect.
The Math portion of the test is scored between 200-800 points. There are calculator and no-calculator sections on the test that are designed to assess both algebra skills and general mathematical problem-solving. In total, there are 58 questions on the test that you're expected to solve in 80 minutes or less. Other topics covered include conceptual understanding, such as working with linear equations and applications, analyzing real-world situations, and figuring out how to solve problems.
The SAT Reading section features 52 questions that you'll have to answer in 65 minutes. You'll read various passages that include an item from US literature or world literature, a social science section that involves psychology, sociology, or economics, and a passage from the United States founding documents or something they inspired. Finally, you'll read 2-3 passages that involve scientific subjects such as biology or Earth science. You'll be evaluated on how well you find evidence, understand the context of the words, and use analysis in the subjects related to social science and science.
Writing and Language on the SAT challenges you with 44 questions in 35 minutes. It's important to note that this section is combined with the Reading portion, which can land you a total score between 200-800. All the questions are multiple-choice and may include charts and graphs. You'll be assessed on how you examine and use evidence, the context of words and how to select the best words to make a point clear, how ideas are expressed, and the use of standard English conventions such as comma use and punctuation.
If you've chosen to write the SAT Essay, you'll have 50 minutes to answer one question for a score that ranges between 6-24 but is not part of your composite SAT score. You'll read a passage that examines how the author uses evidence and reasoning to create ideas and support their claims while you identify the elements of the essay that appeal to the reader. You'll then write your own essay, using examples from the author to illustrate your point. This shows schools your ability to communicate effectively in a written format while showcasing your understanding of English.
How do Madison SAT courses help me prepare?
SAT courses are held in an online environment that allows you to work with your teacher and fellow classmates in a collaborative setting. If you're still taking classes in school, handling homework, and involved in extracurricular activities, you'll find this to be a helpful format when it comes to learning. New sessions of the Madison SAT course start every week, and you can choose between two-week or four-week classes. Because the classes are held online, there's no need to commute.
After signing up for the Madison SAT class, you'll enjoy interactive sessions where you can communicate with your instructor and fellow students as needed. Here, you'll learn together how to build the necessary skills you need for the SAT, such as how to anticipate questions on algebra you'll be asked on the Math section or the best ways to analyze a passage for the Reading portion. If you have further questions, your instructor is available for one-on-one assistance.
