Students looking to practice their Chinese language skills can reach out to Varsity Tutors and enroll in a Tampa Chinese course. Chinese is an important language to learn, as it is the most spoken language in the world. There are an estimated one billion native speakers.
Being able to read, write, and speak Chinese can have many useful applications, both in your daily life and in business. Many products are sourced from China. Being able to speak Chinese can help you if you are looking for manufacturers, negotiating deals with merchants, or traveling to China to attend trade shows. Finance is another industry where knowledge of Chinese can come in handy. If you are a student at the University of South Florida, Eckerd College, or another university in the Tampa area and you are studying finance or business, you might want to consider taking Chinese classes.
If you are interested in learning about Eastern philosophies, Eastern medicine and healing, or Chinese culture and history, knowing Chinese can help. It can open up to you ancient texts and modern literature that have not been translated to English.
Chinese has several dialects. While Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken dialect of Chinese, there are other dialects that are popular as well. Cantonese Chinese has long been the most spoken dialect of Chinese in the United States. Mandarin Chinese is the official language of Taiwan and China. Other dialects include Gan, Wu, and Hakka.
Chinese has a unique written system. Unlike all other modern languages, it is a pictographic language. It has over 50,000 characters, each one representing a different syllable. Each character has no relation to the others; thus, all of them much be studied separately.
What skills might I learn when taking a Tampa Chinese course?
Studying Chinese can seem challenging at first. However, taking a Tampa Chinese course can make it easier. You can study together with other students under the tutelage of a trained instructor.
It might seem impossible to memorize all of the written Chinese characters. Indeed, it's a challenge, but it's not as hard as it seems. Around 20,000 of those characters are used regularly, and only around 2,500 characters make up the majority of written Chinese. The Chinese government introduced simplified written Chinese in the 1950s to increase literacy. While this form of written Chinese is not used everywhere - for example, it is not used in Hong Kong, where the traditional system of written Chinese is used - it is used in many places, such as most of China and Singapore.
Your Tampa Chinese class instructor can introduce you to written Chinese one step at a time. For example, they might focus on the most important or the simpler characters first. Then, once the students are ready, the instructor might proceed to more difficult characters or characters that are not used that often. While there are many different dialects of spoken Chinese, most written Chinese is the same in all dialects. Your instructor can also teach you Pinyin. Pinyin is a system for translating Chinese characters into English based on their pronunciation.
Some students might want to focus specifically on spoken Chinese, while others might have already studied spoken Chinese and may want to focus on written Chinese. Other students may be new to Chinese and might want to learn both. Regardless of what you are interested in, our educational consultants can help you find a class that can give you what you are looking for.
Your class instructor can also focus on improving your pronunciation. Many English speakers find it difficult to pronounce Chinese words correctly. This difficulty is compounded by the fact that Chinese is a tonal language. While Mandarin Chinese has only four tones, other dialects can have up to nine tones. Your class instructor can help the students understand what each tone is and when they should be used.
In addition, your course instructor can take you beyond the Chinese language and introduce you to both ancient and modern Chinese culture. You can learn about Chinese history and ancient and modern Chinese customs and traditions. Your instructor can teach you about how the Chinese language influenced or was influenced by Chinese culture.
What does taking a Tampa Chinese course entail?
Our classes are administered by educated instructors over the internet. You can attend your Tampa Chinese class from wherever you are, as long as you have a working internet connection. During the class, you will be able to see, hear, and interact with the other students and the instructor via video chat. Similarly, the other students and the instructor will be able to see, hear, and interact with you. All group lessons take place in our virtual classrooms.
One of the benefits of taking a group class is that you can get a chance to practice your Chinese. For example, if you are a high school student at Bloomingdale High School, Jesuit High School, or another high school in the Tampa area and you are studying Chinese, you may not have as many opportunities as you need to practice the language. By taking a Chinese class, you can get this opportunity on a regular basis.
You can also request private time with your class instructor. You can get one-on-one sessions with your instructor, also over the internet. This can give you an opportunity to go over issues with Chinese grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, or tones that you have been struggling with.
How can I sign up for a Tampa Chinese course?
Signing up for a Tampa Chinese class is easy. Reach out to Varsity Tutors for more information about when our classes take place, what they entail, and how you can get started. We realize that different students have different schedules and that an adult learner, for example, may not be able to take classes on the same schedule that a high school student can. When you reach out to us, our educational consultants can help you find a class that works with your schedule. Give us a call today and we can get you started as soon as possible.

I believe that learning Chinese is fun; learning Chinese is effort; learning Chinese is satisfying. Without fun, my students will soon loose interests in the subjects of Chinese culture and Chinese language. As a language teacher, I must design their teaching levels according to ages, language levels, and the special needs of each individual student. I will add filtered stories, Chinese poems, music to attract students' attention.
