What can Dallas Fort Worth SAT prep cover?
The SAT has three main sections; Reading, Writing and Language, and Math. You have the option of adding a fourth section, the SAT Essay if you would also like to have your writing skills evaluated. For the three main parts of the SAT, you will have 3 hours to complete all of the questions. It is important to note that you do not get to determine how much time you spend on each section. Each part of the SAT has its own time limitations. You must become familiar with the time constraints of the test if you want to ensure you have enough time to answer every question. If you opt to take the SAT Essay, you will be given an additional 50 minutes to complete it.
The Reading section of the SAT assesses your reading comprehension and reasoning skills. You may encounter charts, graphics, and tables in addition to standard reading passages. You will have 65 minutes to answer 52 multiple choice questions.
The Writing and Language portion of the SAT assesses your knowledge of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, understanding words in a given context, and your ability to identify relevance and improve clarity. You will have 35 minutes to answer 44 multiple choice questions.
The Math section of the SAT will assess your algebraic skills, problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and your ability to understand and solve mathematical expressions. There are two parts of the Math section. In one part, you will be allowed to use a calculator. You will have 55 minutes to answer 30 multiple choice questions with the use of the approved calculator. It is important to remember to practice only with the type of calculator you will be allowed to use on the SAT. In the portion of the Math section of the SAT that you are not allowed to use a calculator, you will only have 25 minutes to answer 15 multiple choice questions.
The SAT Essay assesses your writing skills, ability to understand and present an argument, and your capacity for supporting your positions with evidence. You will only need to write one essay in the 50 minutes allotted for this section. You will read a passage and then assess the author's position by evaluating their supporting evidence, word choice, and persuasive abilities.
Dallas Fort Worth SAT prep can help you become more familiar with both the subject area content and the format of the SAT.
What are some of the benefits of taking a Dallas Fort Worth SAT prep class?
When you enroll in an SAT class, you will have the academic guidance and support you need to work towards your testing goals. You will meet with your classmates and instructor at regularly appointed times in a secure online classroom. Your instructor will go through the information covered on the SAT during your lessons. They may also encourage class discussions or assign group projects to help deepen your understanding of essential skills. Throughout the process, you are always free to ask questions. In fact, students asking questions is one of the benefits of taking a class together. You can help each other identify problem areas and offer support along the way.
Classes are created from multiple sections. This modular approach means that each week a new session can begin. With new classes always starting, getting started with your SAT preparation is quick and easy. You have the option of choosing two or four-week classes. With these options, you can decide precisely how much time you want to devote to your studies.
How is working with a Dallas Fort Worth SAT tutor different from taking a course?
Working with a private tutor gives you a level of personalized instruction which is impossible in a Dallas Fort Worth SAT prep course. In a course, the teacher must engage all of the students and deliver specified academic content. When working individually with an instructor, however, the entire focus is on your SAT preparation needs. Your tutor can take the time to get to learn more about your personality, learning style, and academic challenges. That information can then be used to develop highly individualized lesson plans that target the information you most need to review. This type of personalized instruction can make the preparation experience more dynamic and efficient. However, you will miss out on the group perspective and structure.
Another benefit of working directly with an instructor is the freedom you will gain when scheduling your sessions. Courses have designated times, and you must make adjustments to your personal schedule to ensure you are able to attend. Private tutoring sessions can be scheduled at various times, so it is more likely you will be able to engage with your instructor at a time that is optimal for you.

...currently a Master's student at Cornell University. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science from Cornell in 2016 and I plan to attend medical school in the fall of 2017. I am really excited to be tutoring for Varsity tutors because I really enjoy helping students with subjects that gave me trouble in school. I hope that my time spent developing strategies to learn and absorb the tough material can help you succeed.... I think the key to understanding is context. I remember learning dense science material in one class that only made sense after I took the next class. Once I was able to see the big picture, the smaller details started to fall into place. I try to always draw back to the big picture so that a student always understands what they are learning and how it relates to other material.

My favorite subjects to teach are undoubtedly math and physics, as I love building a beautiful framework from the ground up with a student, and watching all the pieces fall into place as their understanding solidifies. I have an extensive background in mathematics instruction as I am a certified teacher for over 18 years in tthe state of Texas. I have taught high school math from algebra 1 up to and including AP Calculus AB. I have tutored students in grade school math through GRE PREP.... In working with my students, my philosophy is to meet the students where they are, and advance them in incremental steps where they can be advancing and successful. Some refer to this as the "zone of proximal" development.
