A famous author, John Carrick, once said "Knowledge is the greatest power and it is something no one can see. It cannot be stolen or broken, No one can take it from you." This quote was something that has stuck with me and is a constant reminder and is why I have a strong passion for education and getting the most out of it. This passion I have is what often drives me down the path of teaching. Although I am not a teacher, I have always been heavily involved in volunteer tutoring and mentoring.I am currently a student in a Doctor of Pharmacy program and I have a degree in Biochemistry with minors in Biology and Spanish. When it comes to teacher my background includes volunteer tutoring for the past 8 years for ages 6-12 and being an after school program teacher aide where I usually pulled students out or was available for after school tutoring. As I moved through my leveled of education I realized that my tutoring demographic was expanding. Because of this, I have gained communication skills on varying levels for different groups of people. Whether it was 1st grade or 1st year of college I have learned to mold my teaching styles to what best works for the student so they leave feeling confident and are able to teach it back to me.My tutoring background primarily includes elementary school, all subjects, but mainly math and science. I do have some experience in Biology, Genetics, and intro level Spanish. I love Nutrition and often get the nickname of "Health Guru" amongst my friends, so teaching Nutrition is something I would also be interested in. Although I have not taught Health/Nutrition in a school setting, as a pharmacy student, I often volunteer at Health Fairs. I am usually put in charge of the nutrition education area which allows me to educate the public about what is in their food, how to be aware of that and how to read labels.Outside of studying, some of my hobbies include: traveling, hiking, rock climbing, and really anything outdoors. I am always trying to learn something, whether it is a new language or a new instrument. I love meeting new people and interacting with others. In addition to getting to know people, I love studying personality types and have a strong interest in psychology. I like to study personality types because I believe for the most effective communication you have to know who you're talking to and what their method of learning or comprehension is.

Teaching has been a huge part of me since I was young. I have worked with all types of students, including those with ADHD. I taught emergency preparedness at elementary schools and even got the fire department to give a tour of their fire truck for the kids! I continued to be a teaching assistant in biology during college to help with lectures and review concepts in smaller groups. In my career, I worked a lot in outreach and educating the public about different health conditions and steps they can take to empower themselves. I am excited to meet all the wonderful students to come.

As a former teaching assistant for biology laboratory classes at a small private school, University of St Thomas, I love interacting with students on an individual basis to bring them to a deeper understanding of the amazing world of biology. My tutoring philosophy is to cater to every student's unique learning style, and to help them gain independence in mastering the material. I enjoy sharing with students my excitement talking about biology! I am currently in a Physician Assistant program at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and am loving every minute of clinical practice! I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Philosophy from University of St Thomas. While an undergraduate student, I enjoyed leading fellow pre-health professional classmates as campus President of HOSA-Future Health Professionals. One of my most unforgettable health care experiences was a two-week medical missions trip which involved extensive teamwork for fundraising and bringing medical supplies to serve a remote and underserved village in Huancayo, Peru. I also received a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from University of North Texas Health Science Center and am pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. While pursuing my master's degree, I learned to ask for help from teaching assistants and tutors, and am immensely grateful for their guidance! I am interested in academia after gaining several years of clinical experience as a PA. In my free-time, I enjoy cooking, dancing, and spending time with my two lovely poodles. I am also passionate about rescuing animals!

Get to know me professionally: Why are you passionate about helping students? I understand that navigating different forms of coursework can be difficult, especially as you continue to progress in your academic career. I believe that careful consideration should be given to how you study for a particular subject, and I am passionate about helping other students determine the best practice for them so they can strengthen their academic independence. Describe your experience working with students. I spent the latter half of my high school years tutoring my peers in addition to continued mentoring and tutoring in undergrad as well in two specific roles. As an Advisor, I provided mentorship and guidance to first-years throughout the entirety of their inaugural semesters in college and beyond. As a Fellow, I worked in intensive, monthlong programs to tutor, mentor, and prepare incoming freshmen for a collegiate education in STEM fields, though I continued to serve outside of this role during the academic year as well. In addition, I spent about two years teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level. Where did you get your education? What degree(s) have you attained? B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Rice University, 2017 M.S. in Medical Sciences, University of North Texas Health Science Center, 2019 What degree(s) are you working toward? M.D., University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, 2025 What subjects do you tutor? Mostly STEM-related What is your favorite subject(s) to tutor, and why? I don't have a particular favorite. Different subjects require different academic mindsets and I most enjoy exploring potential approaches and finding success in that process. How would you describe your teaching philosophy and your tutoring style? My personal teaching philosophy and tutoring style revolves around the idea: "You can do hard things!" I am comfortable being as hands-on as you would like and need, but my goal is to help others build academic confidence and independence in their own abilities so that they will be better served in the entirety of their academic careers, not just with the subject in which I am tutoring. I work hard with each student to help not only myself but help them assess their strengths and weaknesses for each subject. My approach is not "one size fits all." Instead, I listen carefully to each student and work with them on reviewing and completing their actual school materials and assignments to help them efficiently develop mastery over a subject. What interests you outside of academia? Both inside and outside of academia, I find myself drawn to experiences and opportunities that expand and challenge my worldview. I am always striving to become a better version of myself and deeply value the benefits of introspection and personal growth.

I earned my bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and my doctorate in pharmacy. During college I tutored chemistry, was a teaching assistant for the chemistry department, and taught a home school chemistry co-op. During pharmacy school, I was a tutor for pharmacy students at my school. I primarily tutor science and math. The first thing I do when tutoring is learn about the student. It is helpful for me to know the student's learning style, challenges and struggles with the subject, and their study habits. I also enjoy learning what the student likes to do outside of school. All of this information helps me cater the tutoring session to the student.Outside of academia, I enjoy spending time with my husband, being outside, gardening, fishing, crafting, playing games, and eating food with my family and friends. It's important to spend time doing things you enjoy even when school is busy and overwhelming. It's the best way to give your mind a refresh and return to your studies refocused!

I started out tutoring my peers while I attended college at Texas State University, where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. When I was not studying, my time was consumed by many activities including my job as a medical scribe in the emergency department of Seton Hays Hospital and my membership with my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. I volunteered on weekends through the Ronald McDonald House Charities and San Marcos's local Senior Citizens Home. After college, I decided to continue my education and pursue a medical degree. I am currently enrolled in the Medical Sciences program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. While I await decisions from medical schools, my time consists of working out, running outside, eating mac & cheese, and now tutoring those who were once in my shoes.I want to provide those in need with the skills to become the best versions of themselves through the arms of education. Whatever the goal may be, your success will not be measured by how many times you fail, but by whether you decide to stop trying. If you never stop trying, then you will succeed.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Baylor University and I am a first year medical student and the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. I have experience tutoring math and science at all levels from 3rd grade through college. Teaching middle school and high school math and science is a passion of mine and helping you reach your educational goals will be my joy and privilege. Algebra 1 is my favorite subject to tutor, followed closely by Algebra 2 and high school level Chemistry. My clients can expect a lot of practice problems and drills when working with me because it's my philosophy that there's only a certain amount that you can learn through rote memorization. Discovering what you don't know, mastering it, and being able to apply what you know is what gives rise to more complete understanding and ultimately what scores points on tests. In my free time I enjoy watching and playing baseball, mountain biking, camping, lifting weights, and teaching my dog Calvin tricks.
