I joined TFA-New York City and was assigned as a 5th Grade Special Education teacher at P.S. 325 in Harlem in 2011. I was rated an effective teacher both years. Once the type of learner has been established and the level at where the student is at, the tutor then uses a tool box of techniques to match their skills and needs with the instruction.Achievement and growth are then measured and learning rates are determined, then reflection from the tutor is used to determine if the instruction is the right type and if it is being delivered in the right way. Afterwards adjustments are made in real time. At this point a tutor will challenge the student at the highest level possible that requires so feedback and guidance from the tutor without frustrating the student too much but ensures growth and achievement results.
