I like to teach, inspire and help others learn.I have both a bachelors in business administration as well as a bachelors in civil engineering, having gone back to school to earn it.

Benjamin Franklin once said, ???Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.??? This quote sums up my teaching philosophy. Students need to be involved and allowed the time to struggle and learn. I can provide support, motivation and patience to the student, and not only an answer. I believe this is more important as it gives them confidence and study techniques instead of just the answer to the specific problem at hand.
I am a current graduate student at Columbia University where I am earning my Master's of International Affairs. I grew up in Texas, but live on the East Coast. After graduating with my undergraduate degree, I worked in DC as a political pollster and consultant for five years. Afterwards I moved to New York and began to focus on Russia and the post-Soviet states as my academic interest. I have also been able to travel extensively to places such as Spain, Portugal, Germany, Armenia, Nepal, and many other countries. I have helped with translation, ESL tutoring, and have tutored adults and helped them improve essays. On top of this, I have also served as an Editor for our Journal of International Affairs. I have traveled extensively, and enjoy windsurfing, Russian Cinema, and football (soccer).
Hi! My name is Ruth and I'm very excited to meet you! I used to be an elementary level reading, writing, and math tutor, specifically for kids with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, or autism and I was also a substitute teacher, primarily for elementary-age kids. I have my Bachelor's degree in Political Science, so I am also capable of tutoring up to a high school level in government. I'm really excited to start working with Varsity Tutors, and I hope to hear from you soon!
I love teaching and mentoring - I have been doing both for the past twenty years. I am a teacher in the local college where I teach programming and computer networking. I have several years' industry experience as well. My teaching approach is personalized and interactive - I try to reinforce concepts using examples and asking questions. Of course, I encourage my students to ask questions as well. I have two sons both of whom finished at the top of their classes in their high schools. My wife is a teacher as well.
I dual majored in Neuroscience and Psychology at UTD. Reading and psychology are my favorite to tutor students in because I am the most passionate about those subjects. No matter what you want to do in life, education is needed for a strong foundation for confidence and character. But sometimes that foundation can be shaky and reinforcement is needed; this is where I come in! Being the oldest sibling of 5 and graduating in the top 20 students of my high school class has given me many skills and first-hand experience needed to help you or your child not only understand the material in front of them, but to become comfortable in manipulating it and explaining it to others. My tutoring style is explanation before memorization: I always look for the root of the problem when something is misunderstood and allow the student to work their way to the answer (they always know more than they think they do!). I am highly adaptable to all types of personalities and age groups from my interactions as a camp counselor, helping my younger siblings with their own homework, and tutoring my peers all throughout middle school and high school in AP courses ranging from English to Math. I am also a pre-med student at UT Dallas and my goal has always been to serve others, so naturally I'm ready to serve you or your child!

I consider myself a hard-working individual that has a wide variety of skill sets and talents. I am a fast learner, and thanks to my upbringing, I have developed an exceptional work ethic. Every position and job I've held in the past shaped the type of worker I am today and will be tomorrow. I bring not only a smile and a great attitude to the classroom, but also strong leadership, friendly companionship, and a disposition for excellence. I live to teach and I love to help people learn.
Hello, I am a student at the University of Texas At Dallas studying mechanical engineering. I have experience teaching at my local church to 9th grade students while sitting in some of my friends elementary classes. Along with this during high school I was a part of the National Music Honor Society which gave me the opportunity to teach kids in extended day about the violin. With these experiences, I hope I could translate to more applicable subjects for school such as math and sciences. During my senior year of high school, I was also a part of the engineering team for a competition called the, Real World Design Challenge, in which my team and I had to design a UAS (unmanned aircraft system). In this I was drilled in public speaking because there was a section in the competition where we try to pitch the idea to judges in which we received a nearly perfect score (99/100). So, my experience in the field of math is very extensive for the high school level of education along with AP skills. My favorite subjects in school are physics, math, and engineering. I would like to use this passion to teach others to advance their academic career. A quote from one of my favorite poems can sum up a personal philosophy Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Dylan Thomas.
My name is Neil, and I have a passion for helping others understand and learn. I have tutored for two years now and have had the privilege of watching students excel at concepts that were once difficult and hard to grasp. I try my best to tailor every session to my students' needs because I have found that directly addressing problems and personally working on building confidence in a subject are key for developing stronger learners. Aside from mastering their own subjects, I want to help students feel comfortable dealing with new material, and approach every problem with a positive mindset!
I am a passionate elementary school teacher. I specialize in PK-2nd grade curriculum in ELA and math. However, I am capable of teaching and tutoring through sixth grade.
I am a student of both the Humanities and Natural Sciences. My B.A. is in Historical Studies and my focus was in the history of science, and medicine. As an undergraduate I received grant funding for my ongoing project, 'Historical Perspectives on Alternative Health.' I am pursuing a MA in History while finishing up prerequisites for a graduate degree related to pathology. In addition to historical studies related to science and medicine I am associated with the Center for Values in Medicine, Science, and Technology at UTD. This has provided me with exposure to ethical components of the sciences that do not receive enough discussion or attention. If I had to select an area of inquiry that is the most exciting it would be where the Humanities and Natural Sciences merge. I am thrilled to be constantly adding interdisciplinary approaches to my toolkit whether the discipline is history, literature, ethics, biology, pathology, technology, archaeology, or anthropology. The last two semesters I have functioned in the role of a Teaching Assistant for an introduction course to pathophysiology at the University of Texas at Dallas. Through volunteer service with places such as the Richardson Boy's and Girl's club I have had exposure to homework assistance for many different age ranges. Depending on the subject there are several approaches to teaching, or tutoring, that I think are appropriate. Since each student is different it is important to find the best ways in which he/she can recall, understand, and relate various subject materials. Ultimately though, whether a student is an auditory, visual, kinetic, spacial, etc.. learner, I find the best approach is to help students learn how to identify a range of ways to ask questions regarding any problem, source, or material at hand and then proceed to find the solutions to those questions.I am extremely interested in narratives. My hobbies are related to ways in which people tell and experience stories. This is usually in the form of books, movies, television shows, comic books, story telling, music, and video games. I have recently added radio dramas to this list of narratives I enjoy. Each medium for telling and experiencing stories offer its own unique way for the 'listener' to interact with the story either passively or quite actively in the case of comics and video/computer games.
I am a Junior pursuing my Undergraduate Computer Science degree at The University of Texas at Dallas. In regards to academics, I am passionate about Mathematics, Writing, and Programming related subjects. However outside of academics, I enjoy cooking for friends, playing soccer, and going on hikes. My passion to tutor students stemmed from my experience with tutoring both high school and college freshmen students with their Calculus and Python classes. Due to my current status as a Junior Computer Science student, I feel confident in my ability to tutor in the aforementioned classes and so much more. Education is often regarded as the key to a brighter future, however many students still face obstacles that impede their confidence in their academic performance. As a student myself, I understand what it is like to feel "stuck" and face hardships in my academics. However, my goal is to utilize my skills and experience to empower students with the confidence and ability to take control of their academic journey and in turn change their future for the better.
I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas who is passionate about helping students. I am currently on my gap year before starting medical school this summer and am taking this time to tutor and teach! I have several years of tutoring experience working with K-12 students and adult learners.
I am currently an undergraduate student at University of Texas at Dallas, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and minor in Marketing. I have worked with students and tutored them in STEM subjects such as mathematics and science, and I have also helped students with history projects and essays. My favorite subject to tutor is science because I am able to use simple real-world examples to explain more complex topics, which allows for me to create a more engaging experience for the students and connect with them as well. I believe that there is no greater power than knowledge and your ability to apply yourself using vast information that is learnt either from school or experiences. Moreover, I believe that students who choose to seek help through tutoring embark upon a path to become the best version of themselves, starting with academic success. In my spare time, I like to read, draw/paint, and watch movies. In essence, I would love the opportunity to make someone interested in learning as much as I love learning about new information and ideas.
Hi! My name is David and I recently graduated from Columbia with my Masters in Public Health. I am very passionate about science and I hope to dedicate my career to improving the environment and people's health. I've always enjoyed teaching whether I'm with my students as a TA or just with my friends helping them with assignments. I think understanding difficult concepts can be stressful at times so I hope to make learning enjoyable by simplifying hard questions and boosting my students' confidence.

I'm going into medical school the next academic year at UT Southwestern, and currently at the University of Texas at Dallas for undergraduate studies. I've been tutoring for over 5 years in a variety of subjects, and I love to tutor because I truly believe in supporting students so that they can reach their full potential.
All it takes is a nicely worded analogy to any video game and boom! You now understand Organic Chemistry. You may think it's not that simple, but understanding complex topics doesn't require a PhD. Being able to put the knowledge in your own terms and make any material sound familiar makes mastery just around the door. Teaching the material well is important to me, but what's more important is getting to know who is learning the material and adjusting it to their liking.Besides my values, I am a pre-Medical, Data Science major at UT Dallas. I enjoy tutoring Organic chemistry, Calculus. When it comes to tutoring and learning, I prioritize giving meaningful practice problems that target specific concepts without distractions. If you want to feel ready for any test question, you've come to the right person.
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and am a current graduate student in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Compressible and incompressible aerodynamic phenomena. I did very well in my Thermal/Fluid and Dynamics/Vibrations courses and as a result am able to tutor a lot of the associated benchmark courses. I truly enjoy helping my fellow student and find it rewarding to see progress being made over the time, since starting the supplementary instruction. Always looking to help wherever and whenever I can.-Malik Pierson
As someone who has been in engineering school for four years now, I have gained extensive knowledge in scientific and mathematical fields as well as a dependency on copious amounts of coffee.During this time I learned something extremely important: We may all learn differently but we usually all make similar mistakes when it comes to learning. At one time I myself greatly struggled with learning topics related to my field. I learned how to overcome my weaknesses and study smarter, not harder. My aim is to pass off the skills I have acquired in college that way others can avoid repeating the mistakes of countless others and have a successful college experience. Success breeds success and a strong start is extremely important to maintain a positive experience and outlook.
Personal Facts and Style: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Native English Speaker and No Accent (These are important to some students) Patient and Friendly Like to explain things step by step and write a lot on the white board! ALWAYS open to questions and suggestions from students and parents Background: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have always enjoyed teaching new concepts to people, whether formally or informally. To paraphrase an old TV series title, I would say "Have books, will travel" to describe my passion for teaching. Of course, now these "books" are often online, and we travel with laptops and tablets. But learning will always be associated with the word books, in my opinion. My experience includes all levels of mathematics, including calculus, business calculus, and multi-variable calculus. I also love teaching the fundamentals such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I am very comfortable in teaching computer-based topics such as Cloud Computing concepts as well as specifics for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Tutoring Approach: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When tutoring, I first try to understand the student's specific goals and needs. Maybe it's help with HW. Maybe it's general concepts. Perhaps it's a standardized test such as AP, SAT, GRE. What does the student need and what are his/her goals? How can I help? That's my approach. I try to make sessions interactive to make the learning process interesting. This also helps reinforce student learning. For 1-1 sessions, this is relatively easy to do. For group sessions, I try to ask students if they understand, and I give them time to solve the problems that I present. Subjects of Interest to Me (not a complete list) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Science is awesome right? From the biochemical reactions inside of our cells to the extreme biological adaptations of deep-diving sperm whales to the long distance migration of some birds, nature never ceases to amaze me. I love Biology (especially Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Cancer Biology), Chemistry (especially Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry), and Physics (Classical and Modern). I enjoy tutoring in these subjects as stand-alone or as part of the MCAT exam. Current Endeavors ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am currently working on Machine Learning (ML), and specifically neural networks. I use Python (with the Tensor Flow and Kera packages) and Jupyter Notebooks. I also use various tools in the cloud, and I set up billing alerts and cost constraints to ensure that I stay within my prescribed budget. I am also analyzing data such as my own Apple health data (XML format). There are many tools available for data analysis. I like using Microsoft Fabric along with the Azure Cloud, as it provides a good end-to-end solution.
I have learned a great deal in my history of tutoring. I believe that learning is a unique process for each individual, and that it is crucial to understand how to best guide the student through that process, rather than assuming they will always succeed in the same form of instruction as others.
I graduated from University of Texas at Dallas with a Global Business degree, and I speak Spanish (advanced) and Chinese (intermediate), so I have a specialty with helping natives of those languages. I have also been learning piano for 16 years, the first 11 of which I had a piano teacher who taught me to read music and pass all the theory test grades 1 - 6.
Hi! My name is Ashwini and I am Neuroscience graduate from UT Dallas and currently applying to medical school. I have had a passion to help others and tutoring for several years. I am here for your tutoring needs and advancing you to be a great student. I am sociable and detail oriented so we will work great together to get you to where you need to be.
I remember what its like to stare at a piece of homework and not know where to start. Along the way my teachers helped me realize the value of asking questions. In my tutoring, my number one goal is to remove the anxiety behind asking questions about why or how. I believe all students should feel that asking questions is a good academic skill rather than a weakness. In high school, I started tutoring for the National Honor Society, where I enjoyed tutoring underclassmen in Spanish, Chemistry, and Biology.I was born in Panama and later moved to Texas with my family; however, Ive spent most of my life in the DFW area. After high school, I was designated as an AP Scholar. I made high marks on the AP exams for English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, and the highest scores on US History and World History.Later, I was named a National Hispanic Merit Scholar and received a full ride scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I was also accepted into UNLs Honors college. I double majored in Spanish and Psychology and received minors in International Studies and Latin American Studies. During my years in Lincoln, I tutored middle schoolers in Biology, Pre-Algebra, Spanish, and English Language Arts. I also provided academic organizational skills tutoring and study tips. For my undergraduate research, I worked in a developmental cognitive neuroscience lab on campus. In my free time I volunteered at a cat shelter. After earning my Bachelor of Arts degree, I moved back to DFW to work in my current position doing research for the University of Texas at Dallas. I assist in a project investigating how middle schoolers learn best in their classrooms In my position, Ive traveled all across Texas and Arizona. Im familiar with middle school classrooms and the standard Texas curriculum for middle school grades. While working, I earned my Master of Science degree in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience.at the University of Texas at Dallas. I focused my coursework on adolescent development, learning, and memory.I have experience working with English Language learners within a diverse student body all across Texas. One of my favorite areas is Spanish tutoring for new and native speakers. Oftentimes, Spanish will be spoken at home and a student will have a fluent ability to speak and understand the language. However, reading and writing in the language may need more guided practice. For me, learning to write and read in Spanish was not something I learned at home. I remember being embarrassed at misspelling Spanish words that I had been speaking for years at home. I share my experience with students to highlight how common this situation is when learning to read and write in language.I believe sharing my past experiences and anxieties with learners is helpful for middle schoolers. At this age, they are beginning to navigate their own learning and choose their own classes. My drive to tutor middle school topics in English Language Arts, Spanish, and History is fueled by my desire to set the stage for fearless learning in students.
I am currently a senior at The University of Texas at Dallas, pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. I am also a huge Dallas sports fan - Cowboys, Mavs, etc.I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet new people and tutor them in any subject!
Want to learn something? I am third year medical resident in Family Medicine and was born and raised in a family of teachers and educators. I really enjoy learning and teaching and the process of deconstructing things down to their most digestible parts. I am a big advocate of making things fun and trying to bring the material to life. I have experience tutoring all ages, and in a wide range of disciplines. I look forward to helping you or you child meet your goals in whatever way I can!
Every subject is like its own language, and every teacher is like the translator, who, not only makes untrodden land seem familiar but also equips the student with the tools and confidence to foster discovery on his or her own. All learning happens within the context of a relationship: this is my teaching philosophy. Lessons centered around teachable moments and the reasoning behind conceptual bases drive the manner in which I teach. Along with a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas, I bring more than two years of experience with one of the best tutoring companies in the DFW teaching subjects ranging from the upper-level sciences to upper-level maths as well as SAT, ACT, AP, and everything in between. During my time at the university, I gathered lab experience working on a bioplastic catalysis project that aimed to increase the efficiency of non-petroleum-based polymerization reactions. Outside of my academic life, I love to make Latin-influenced music with my brothers.
I graduated with my bachelor's degree at the University of Washington. I completed my master's degree at the University of Texas at Dallas. I have a fascination for history, politics, and language. The courses which I enjoyed most in high school were IB History Higher Level and IB English Higher Level.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern, where I earned my master's degree in biomedical engineering. I began teaching as a tennis coach, developing strong communication and one-on-one instructional skills, and have been tutoring with Varsity Tutors since 2024 in math and science, including Algebra, Algebra II, SAT Algebra, and Biology. My tutoring style is personalized and focused on understanding how each student thinks. I enjoy getting to know my students and having open conversations about their learning styles. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable saying when they do not understand a concept, allowing us to work through it together. I adapt my teaching to meet the needs of my students, whether that means breaking down concepts step by step, emphasizing problem-solving strategies, or reinforcing conceptual understanding. My goal is to build confidence and independence.
