Additionally, my extensive experience in the business community and volunteer sector make me an ideal tutor!I have recently returned from 10+ years of teaching abroad which has broadened my awareness of the need for devoted and dynamic educators throughout our global community today. I bring with me a sensitive and nurturing cultural awareness to all my tutoring and teaching requirements.I am passionate about teaching and learning! I think that education should be fun...Let's make learning fun!

I am a graduate of Regis University and have been a teacher for the last 6 years in grades 2-6th. I love teaching reading, writing and math. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade for 4 years and I loved getting to witness students going from learning to read to reading to learn. Writing was a skill that did not come easily to me, but eventually became one of my greatest strengths, which is why I want to teach the skills of writing to others. Math was my favorite subject as a kid and I get really excited about it. Being able to share that excitement with students and have them grow to enjoy doing math is such a wonderful feeling. I am passionate about helping students create a positive mindset as they learn and master new skills. I choose to make learning as fun as possible and feel so proud when I see a student's face light up, because they finally understand something. That is what makes my heart happy and why I got into teaching in the first place. When I am not tutoring or teaching, I like to spend time with my 2 girls. We like to do crafts and art projects together. I also have 2 fur babies that we love to walk and spend time in nature with. I am also a huge adovate for mindfulness, emotional regualtion, and learning social emotional skills.
Learning is a lifelong and never ending journey. Education is short lived. Instilling a love of learning not only ensures academic success but lifelong success as well. Regis University, where I received both my Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a minor in German and my Masters in Special Education, promotes values such as cura personalis, taking care of the whole person. I also learned of Magis (seeking more and better) and being men and women in service of others. I love giving back to those around me by teaching. Helping others discover the joy of learning brings me joy. I love tutoring foreign languages such as German but also the younger grades in basic skills such as reading, writing and math. I like to meet students where they are at skill wise and tailor lessons and knowledge to their needs and skills and goals.Outside of teaching and classes I love to watch and play hockey, go hiking in the mountains of colorado and take pictures of my travels! I have traveled quite of bit of Europe especially the rural parts of Germany and Switzerland and I love discovering new cultures or interesting people, cities, and the little hole in the wall shops and restaurants!
I believe in the power of education and curiosity! I am a biologist who has taught in public high schools for the past 8 years. I love working with students to discover new things about this amazing planet! I have taught everything from cell biology to astronomy, including botany, developmental biology, ecology and apiology, the study of bees. There is nothing too small or too big to investigate! I bring genuine passion, enthusiasm and curiosity to each lesson.
I graduated cum laude from Regis University with a double major in English Literature and Philosophy, and a triple minor in Pre-law, Politics, and Vocal performance. I worked at the Regis University Writing Center as a Writing Consultant for four consecutive years starting my sophomore year in college. In addition to my consultant position, during the fall semesters of 2011, 2012, and 2013, I worked as a teaching assistant for three different freshmen writing seminars. I also gained some valuable writing and group collaborating experience through my position as an assistant editorial board member for an international undergraduate philosophy journal called *Stance* and through the process of getting one of my English Literature papers published in another international undergraduate journal of literary criticism and research in the discipline of English (published in The Oswald Review). While I love to teach a variety of subjects, I am most interested in teaching subjects in writing, English, Philosophy, Politics, Law, or anything related. As my variety of college studies suggest, I am extremely passionate about learning and I continue to find new interests. Due to my tutoring experience and the training I received as a writing consultant and teaching assistant, I strive to make students feel comfortable during tutoring sessions, and more importantly, my constant goal is for the student to learn something they might apply to future assignments within the specific class and other courses. While my passion for learning is a driving force in my life, I have a few other interests and hobbies. Music is one of my primary interests: I've played piano since the age of six, I used to play cello, and I am an active singer who participates in Colorado Chorale, one of Denver's prestigious choirs. Likewise, I also used to participate in musical theater productions, so this continues to be something of interest for me. In addition to my musical interests, I love to kayak, canoe, hike, and go up to the mountains with friends. Overall, I believe in a fair balance between maintaining my academic interests and cultivating my hobbies.

I am passionate about nursing and have been a nurse for 20 years. I have a Master's in the Science of Nursing from Regis University. I am an educator and have taught nursing students for 6 years. As a math teacher with more than ten years experience, I find that my favorite teaching moments have been helping students find confidence in math. My favorite courses to teach are high school math courses like Algebra, Geometry, and PreCalculus. However, I loved my time teaching Middle School and opening up the possibilities in STEM to my students. My graduate degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment has helped me gear my teaching to each of my students using varied approaches and data-driven techniques.
I believe every student has the chance to succeed. Some students simply need more tools than others. Thankfully, tutoring is an amazing way to provide these tools. I worked as a high school and middle school special education para for three years, and I have begun my first year teaching college English. I have learned to become very patient and adaptable to student needs. I have a bachelor's degree in film from Mary Baldwin University, and I have a master's decree in creative writing from Regis University. I tutor English and writing courses as these are the subjects I am most proficient in and most enjoy. I also help prepare students for state and college board testing, reviewing helpful strategies. I teach to help students succeed. Learning styles differ greatly, so students should be treated as individuals. Tutoring helps focus on an individual so they can be the best they can be. Outside of academia, I love movies and television. I also really enjoy comic books.
I received my bachelor's degree in writing from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2009.During the course of my undergraduate degree (and even before that and forward through today), I have published and won multiple awards in fiction, poetry, academic essay and song writing. Currently, I write regularly for web and print media. This work has included literary magazines, news sites, and blogs. I also have been able to freelance and ghostwrite for print and online platforms.During my undergraduate degree, I took a writing tutor course that helped me to gain theory and skills for being a writing tutor. In the class, I learned about meeting tutees where they are and to really listen to and find out what questions need addressing (everyone is different). I learned how to lead with helpful resources that can be used ongoing, even if/when tutees are unable to work with me. The goal, always, is to help direct tutees to become stronger writers who can at some point stand on their own.The writing tutor course led to work in the Community College of Denver writing tutor center where I helped numerous tutees with their essays, poems, fiction pieces and other writings. Outside of the writing tutor center, I have also helped coach professionals, non-profit bloggers, and artists gain direction, skills, and confidence in the writing craft.I love being able to guide students towards self-sufficiency. I often boast that I am a resources girl, and that writing is a learned skill which requires practice. Anyone, with enough diligence can master it. I think that writing is such a powerful tool. In many cases it gives people a voice. This is something I have learned from taking part as a volunteer and poet in Art from Ashes workshops (a Denver-based nonprofit organization that uses poetry and other art to empower youth). In the beginning, students are often quiet or even rambunctious, but during the course of the workshops, students begin to realize the power in their own words. It's a wonderful thing to witness! In January, I will begin Regis University's inaugural low residency MFA where I will focus on fiction writing and poetry while I freelance for news and other content print and web media. I am excited about this. I consider it buying time to further hone my own writing (I am always learning), and I'm looking forward to being able to offer more from that experience.
