Academic Credentials: Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania; Master of Arts in Elementary Education, North Carolina A&T State UniversityEducational Philosophy: My philosophy of education is that teachers should make learning interesting and fun. Teachers should know their students and their capabilities. We should keep up on what is current and what interest our students. When doing so, the students feel important. Teaching is a work in progress which is why we need to continue learning. Teachers need to keep up with the new-age learning and teaching styles and techniques. All students are individuals and should be taught according to their individual needs.I believe that students should not be put down or criticized for being "different." Students should not feel they are less important than any other student for any reason. All students are unique in their own way and should be treated as such.Children should learn at their own pace. You cannot rush students' learning because they will never actually understand the concept being taught. Like I mentioned before, all students are not alike and they learn in different ways. Therefore, multiple teaching styles should be used in the classroom to accommodate the students as much as possible.Learning should be fun. A subject should be taught in a way that the students will get it, understand it, and remember it. Not only will they get it, understand it and remember it, but they will enjoy the process as well.Experience: I have been tutoring on and off for the past 10 years at the elementary level and have been teaching for 12 years. I have taught/tutored in a few different states including: several areas here in Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh Public, South Hills, Ambridge and Baden), North Carolina, and Atlanta Georgia. I have taught in public, private, charter, and magnet schools. Although I am a teacher, it is very refreshing tutoring children one on one or in a small group. It sometimes makes a world of a difference in their progress and achieving goals.I teach all subject areas, Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. However, I would have to say Language Arts (Reading) is my favorite because it sets the tone for all academic areas. When the "light bulb" comes on and children have finally "got it," it us the best feeling in the world for both student and teacher.Just Me: I am married with 2 children, ages 4 and 10. I really enjoy being with my family, watching movies, exercising, going to games, watching football and college basketball.

I am a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University. I graduated with a degree in Romance Languages and Literature, Spanish. I also have a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from American InterContinental University. I've been teaching for 21 years. I taught English as a Second Language during the first 4 years of my career and the rest of my career has been spent teaching Spanish. I have taught Spanish at the elementary through high school levels. I enjoy seeing students reach their full potential with assurance, patience, and guidance. I value growth over grades in the sense that if you focus on the learning the grades will take care of themselves. I love to incorporate instructional strategies that best fit the student's needs. As an MYP/IB Spanish teacher I love to also incorporate the IB philosophy of teaching which incorporates approaches to learning skills such as communication, research, critical thinking, social, and self-management and the IB learner profile traits of being inquirers, thinkers, risk-takers and reflective. There are more IB learner profile traits but in the tutoring sessions I like to gently push my students in these areas and encourage them to focus on one skill during their regular class in order to help them advocate for themselves and gain knowledge in the classroom and be confident learners. When we meet for tutoring I like to follow up on how well students are not only learning the content but also developing their learner profile traits and using their approaches to learning skills. When students leave sessions with me I want them to leave empowered and motivated to be learn. When I'm not in the classroom I absolutely love running long distances. The longest distance I have run is a half marathon! When I'm not running I am happily gardening and spending time with my family. I have a wonderful husband, three daughters, one in college, one in elementary school, and the littlest one is in pre-school! I hope to connect with you soon. Let's get growing!

To know me is to know I love science and helping others. I received my B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from North Carolina A&T State University, and my M.S. in Medical Science from Indiana University. My ultimate goal is to become either an OB/GYN or a Cardiologist. Any topic with a connection to science will always grab my attention! And if it involves the body? Oh, I am immediately hooked. So it's no surprise that I tutor in Biology, Chemistry, and Math with my favorite being biology. But just as much as I love science, I love helping students and tutoring. Tutoring is amazing to me because I get to learn about people and help them grow to like the topic I love. When I tutor I always make sure one thing is known: the students are the ones in charge of the session, not me. In my spare time, I love to read and practice yoga.

I love to teach people new things and I enjoy learning new programming languages in my free time. Programming is an essential thing to learn or study because it improves your logical thought process and critical thinking skills. It also helps you improve your creativity. There are millions of ways to solve a problem, but it is finding the most efficient ways to solve a problem that will set you apart. My tutoring style is based on understanding concepts due to the fact that most languages share similar attributes. Vocabulary is also very important.I have obtained a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from North Carolina A&T State University and now work in the industry as a web developer. I tutor Computer Science related topics like Java and other Object-Oriented languages, as well as Study Skills and web development. I am also a percussionist and I play the sextuplets, snare, tonal drum, and drum set.
I have always been enthusiastic about teaching anyone of all ages. I love the fact that I can share my knowledge to benefit others. I chose the subjects Algebra and Chemistry because those are my strongest subjects. I am a declared STEM major, studying Chemistry, so I feel strongly about these subjects. I love working with children and sharing my positivity and excitement about teaching.

I am currently pursuing further studies in animal welfare and behavior at UPenn. I thrive on creating engaging, hands-on lessons that foster critical thinking and empower students to overcome challenges. Witnessing their growth and newfound confidence is immensely rewarding. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring my passion for art and wildlife conservation, which enriches my teaching and inspires my students.
I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Go, Tarheels! I was a student there during the Michael Jordan era and the good old days of Dean Smith. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and stepped into teaching high school English immediately after graduating. I have always been an avid reader and writer, so my passion is teaching students to love books, reading, and writing. During my career I have taught grades 7 through 12 and a few community college university transfer courses. After receiving my Master's Degree in English from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, I was afforded an opportunity to study abroad at the University of the West Indies. Basically, a few other teachers and I were able to study the culture and literature of Jamaica for an entire summer. I believe that all students can learn, however, students do not all learn at the same pace. I am passionate about helping struggling learners to see their potential. My former students and I always kept "hands-on" activities going with each unit that I taught. I often offered them "choice" in assignments because I do not believe in "one size fits all" educational practices. For example, my 8th graders began to really love poetry each year because I often had a resident poet to do an internship with them during this unit. Since he was a published author of poetry, he was able to do a poetry seminar with my students, and I even became a student under his tutelage. The end result was a spectacular Poetry Cafe at the end of his seminar. And, my students and I regularly published a poetry anthology at the end of the school year. Each student was asked to contribute their best rendering and I was able to get a sponsor who graciously printed bound copies for each of my students. I believe I can successfully tutor students who have difficulties in reading comprehension, English grammar, and writing. At times, since I have retired, I frequently tutor students who are below grade level in reading. My teaching style is pretty much one of "I do", "we do", and "you do". This allows me to model a particular lesson and then gradually release the pupils to complete tasks on their own. I love to see students master new material and become confident in themselves. Tutoring will give me an outlet to continue to stay in tune with our future leaders of America. During the course of my career I have taught several students who have played in the NBA, competed in the Olympics, a famous folk singer, and many published writers, and speakers. Most of them are my Facebook friends. I, too, am in the process of publishing a second book. In addition to reading, writing and singing, I love to garden, travel, exercise, and cook. And yes, I believe that learning is a life-long process for us all. It is my desire to create a community of learners who will continue to pass this joy of learning on to future generations.
