I am a lifelong learner with a diverse academic background, holding four nursing degrees (LVN, RN A.D., BSN, MSNEd), a BA in Psychology, and a BA in History. I passed both the NCLEXPN and NCLEXRN in 76 questions. My clinical strengths include psychiatric/mental health, endocrine, cardiology, immunology, pharmacology, and medical/ surgical nursing. I have spent much of my career in mental health and have volunteered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Kidney.fund and UNOS (United Network of Organ Sharing), where I inform the world about Organ Donation. I recognize that the NCLEX is a challenging exam, but I believe that structured collaboration makes success achievable. Together, we will review your test scores, create a clear outline, and engage in focused discussions. From there, we will build a personalized plan and schedule that defines your progress step-by-step. My goal is to guide you with clarity, consistency, and support as you move toward passing the NCLEX.

After more than fifteen years teaching high school and college American history, I find that some students either need or want additional help/instruction after the school bell rings. I have tutored students for the last 7 years in small group or one and one to help them master certain aspects of history: content, skill based, or test-taking strategies.I specialize in US History with emphasis on writing for standardized tests and AP exams. I have a MA in History from McNeese State University and I am AP certified, Social Studies 7-12 certified, and I am an AP reader for the College Board. I have years of training on AP US History writing styles and rubrics.I believe in meeting students where they are academically and helping them understand content and writing skills to pass classes and/or tests. I love American History and also hope to help students learn to love it....or at least tolerate it a bit more.

I like math and the critical thinking that it involves. I see math problems as little puzzles to be put together and solved, and puzzles are also one of my favorite hobbies. Math problems can often be solved in more than just one way, and finding different ways to solve one problem is something that always keeps math interesting for me. Math, in my opinion, is one subject that can help develop the ability to see different perspectives of a single situation.I am a certified Texas Teacher. I have taught math in K-4 and in high school. I have also taught special education in these grades, as well. Reading and writing education are also on my list of strong points.I am a good tutor because I strongly think that with proper attention and patience, all students can understand and dominate math.

I graduated with a 4.0 from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, with a Bachelor's of Arts in English. While pursuing my degree, I logged over 600 hours in the public school classroom working mostly with middle school and high school students, although I did have some experience working with elementary school students. I have taught in whole class, small group, and individual settings, and I anticipate receiving my Texas teacher certification by the end of January 2014. I believe all students can learn and achieve through practice and hard work, regardless of the subject area and individual strengths and weaknesses. I love reading for recreation, but I am extremely passionate about writing; I believe that this passion transfers well to my students. I am comfortable tutoring any English related subject, beyond Reading Comprehension and Writing. My other hobbies include listening to music and shopping both of which attracted me to the Austin area. I believe that learning lasts a lifetime, and as a part of my journey to become a lifelong learner, I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

I am currently a counseling student at Lamar University, where I will complete a second Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in May 2025. I enjoy helping students obtain degrees or studying the following subjects: social sciences, psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, philosophy, metaphysics, spirituality, government, civil rights, policy development, and economics. We all learn differently, and I am open to training and coaching students to develop those skills that will fit their particular intelligence structure, which will assist them in best retaining the information learned during our sessions. I worked eleven years in corporate business as a chemical engineer, until I chose to leave to pursue my passion which is education. For the last thirteen years, I have been teaching developmental math classes at the community college level. In addition, I have been tutoring students of all ages and levels.I enjoy tutoring students, because you get to experience that light bulb moment with them. They realize that things aren't as complex as they were originally thinking. I emphasize showing the rules of math. So often students get confused on certain concepts because they have learned some type of shortcut in the past, which does not apply with all cases. However, if the students just know the rules, they can apply their knowledge with any given problem. The rules will never change; the only thing that changes are the numbers. My tutoring work also helps me be a better classroom teacher, because by working one-on-one you learn where the misunderstandings may be with a particular concept.

As a teacher with 10 years of experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience here at Varsity Tutors. In addition to my Masters in Education, I have found history, government and economics extremely exciting and linked together in many respects. I also have 3 years experience teaching history and government to high school students. What I have learned through that experience was that to get kids to understand and value historical events, I had to make these events come to life. I implemented unorthodox teaching strategies such as combining film, biographies and historical accounts together to make these events memorable for them. I am passionate about teaching and helping students come to love the act of learning and I would cherish the opportunity to transform the way your students view history, government and economics.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of North Texas. Once I graduated, I quickly landed my dream position as a second grade math and science teacher. I then transferred to a school closer to home, to teach 4th grade. I quickly fell in love with teaching older students my favorite subject, math! After four years with 4th grade, I was moved to 5th grade math and social studies. I soon realized I loved the conversations that my classes and I would have when reading articles or learning about the American Revolution. After one year in 5th grade, I decided to go back to school to obtain my Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University. My ten years in teaching have taught me alot, but the most important is that every child learns differently. It is not always easy, but when I can figure out how to adapt to each students needs it is truly rewarding to see how excited they are when they understand new concepts.
