I am an English teacher in NYC with four years of experience and I specialize in writing and text analysis skills for middle and early high school students. I can also support older students in test prep and AP courses. I'm passionate about helping young people build their confidence in ELA so that they can find their voice and advocate for themselves as engaged learners. In addition to classroom teaching, I've spent years as an ESL tutor, Big Sister with Big Brother and Big Sisters of America, a camp counselor, and creative writing instructor. When I'm not teaching, I like to ride my bike around the city, bake sweet treats, and swim in the ocean all year round with my family!

I graduated from Clark University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and played Varsity Baseball. Upon graduation, I joined Teach For America and returned home teaching at a public charter school in Brooklyn, NY. After this, I took the LSAT and decided to help others to achieve the same success on the LSAT that I did. I teach all aspects of the LSAT and enjoy each and every section. As a philosophy major, I enjoyed using my brain in a logical manner and have found there to be fun in tutoring the LSAT. I believe that the LSAT can and should be a fun test to study for and strive to make sure that it is enjoyable for all of my students. I prefer to just serve as a guide so the lessons that students get stick with them more. I do this by asking questions and providing enough scaffolding to have my student create their own "Aha!" moment. When I'm not tutoring, I love everything New York sports and creating new dishes to enjoy with friends and family.

My motivations for becoming a tutor stem from the relationships I built with educators during my time as a student. It is because of the support I received from my teachers, professors, and tutors that I have such a strong passion for academia. I aspire to provide those whom I tutor with a similar sense of enthusiasm for learning.I am a graduate of Clark University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and I have also taken coursework in various disciplines of mathematics and business. During college, I gained experience tutoring in two primary ways. First, I was the teaching assistant for one of Clark's Linear Algebra courses. As the teaching assistant, I held office hours for the students enrolled in the course, during which they could come to me with any questions related to the lectures, homework, or exams. I also have experience teaching middle school students through the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program in the Worcester Public School system. While participating in the AVID program, I tutored a variety of subjects including Biology, History, English, Algebra, and Geometry. While I have experience in a broad range of subjects, I am particularly passionate about the fields of Mathematics and Economics.

I am a graduate cum laude of Clark University, with a CELTA certification in teaching English from Cambridge University. I was born and raised in Queens, attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan, and now live in Brooklyn, so I know the city very well. I have years of experience teaching and tutoring a wide range of subjects and students. My expertise lies in two main areas. Firstly, I teach ESL to adults and teenagers. I have experience both teaching in front of large classrooms and intensive one-on-one tutoring. My students come from all over the world, and I aim to tailor my lessons to their respective needs and interests, while covering the fundamentals of reading, writing, speaking, and listening to English. I always recommend a city-as-classroom approach, where my students immerse themselves in the language both in and out of school.Secondly, I tutor elementary and middle schoolers in English, Math and test preparation. I have experience leading after-school classes as well as one-on-one tutoring at learning centers and private homes. I have had students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency, including many children of immigrants. I emphasize study skills and test taking strategies, and love seeing a student's eyes light up when they grasp a concept that had been eluding them.

I graduated from Clark University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History. I tutored an 8 year old and a 12 year old for three of my four years at Clark. I have spent the last two years working in an elementary school through a program called City Year Boston. During that time I worked with students on a variety of different subjects. I spent a good deal of time working with students one on one and in small groups. I have also spent a summer working with high school aged students. My teaching philosophy stems is all about growth mindset. I don't believe anyone is inherently bad at a subject. I believe that they just haven't been taught the subject in a way that makes sense to them yet. Therefore, I encourage students to try and think about problems in new and innovative ways. I have recently moved back to NYC, where I was born and raised, and I am very excited to share my love of learning with any student I should have the privilege of working with.

I am a patient, kind, and a confident fit for a student seeking English (up to high school level for testing, writing assistance to university standard), Japanese (experience teaching age 12-14, early beginner to intermediate level/JLPT N5+N4), and Environmental Studies (AP test prep).I was a high honors/Dean's List student throughout my academic career. The privilege of studying Japanese at Phillips Exeter Academy for four years is something I continue to be grateful for every day. I spent another year in college studying the language, before turning to the marketplace for additional training. I was a server at a sushi restaurant for 2 years. I learned how to embarrass myself a little less every day contributing to noise of the small kitchen staff. I also learned how to most respectfully serve each of my guests. I am studying to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at the N3 level this December (as they host the exam annually). I'm not nearly as fluent as I am in my native tongue, however I think it gives me great perspective to empathize with students feeling disconnected to their passion for grammar (in their first or second language).I got my B.A. in Global Environmental Studies from Clark University where I studied geography, management, and entrepreneurship. My dream is to be self-employed and consulting on the development and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. I volunteer time to serve as the Vice Chair of the Ambassador Advisory Council for the Global Citizens Initiative, which essentially means I'm always looking to engage in thoughtful discussion and project-based learning experiences with diverse, intelligent, motivated, young people from all corners of the globe. I look forward to meeting even more students!

I recently earned my Master of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Clark University and am interested in pursuing a Master of Education to teach all levels of chemistry. I have experience teaching introductory level chemistry through being a teaching assistant and have an extensive knowledge of biochemistry through 3 years of research in a protein chemistry lab. I look forward to getting to know each of my students on a more personal level so I can better understand their unique learning styles. I believe a science teacher can make or break a students interest in science, so I plan to make it as fun and exciting as I can to ignite that interest!

I graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Currently, I am obtaining my Masters of Arts Degree , in International Development, from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. I began my teaching journey, in 2018 where I began substitute teaching grades K-12 in a highly diverse school district in Southwest Minnesota. During this time I taught a variety of subjects from reading, writing, math, English and science. In August of 2018, I moved to Prague, The Czech Republic, where I completed an intensive 120 hour accredited TEFL(Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course. During my training, I learned how to create engaging and informative lessons on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Moreover, I independently created and taught 10- hour long lessons to English language students, within my first month of training. After receiving two TEFL certificates, I spent one year in Prague, teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced English as a second language(ESL) to students in person. During this time, I taught students ages 4-70. While living in Prague, I also began my online teaching journey. In October of 2018, I began teaching English as a second language to students in China through VIPKID, GOGO KID and Pal Fish, all online English language learning platforms. I have continued to teach ESL online, for the past four years. I have found teaching online requires a different skill set than in person teaching. Teaching online requires showing and leading students to answers rather than telling them. I aim to include three components in each lesson I teach. It also requires great enthusiasm, patience, creativeness and an ability to keep students engaged through an online setting. I do this through a personalized teaching style for each student and lesson. Each student learns in their own way, and it is imperative I adapt my methods and styles to meet the needs of the students. I strive to meet students where they are in their learning journey. I acknowledge student's strengths, while working on areas of improvement. Specifically, when assisting students with trouble areas, I remain patient, but encouraging. When students speak, read, listen or write incorrectly, I aim to elicit or draw out a correction from the student before I offer them the right answer. Simply stating, I encourage the student to come up with the right answer themselves, as this is a key moment in learning any subject area. When students are able to recognize mistakes they make on their own and then make a correction, they are more likely to remember that information in the future. Positive reinforcement and props are also key to creating a fun and engaging learning environment. I like to create a fun and colorful class environment, to encourage participation from students. I also aim to use a reward system for each class. I found when students have something to look forward to within the lesson, whether that is a short game or a prize, they remain more focused and on task. While my time teaching in Prague ended in 2020, I have continued to teach online and substitute teach in person up to the present 2021-2022 school year. During my latest years of substitute teaching, I have taken on longer teaching assignments which have given me more experience teaching areas such as: biology, algebra, history, social studies geography and reading. I have also worked with students who have various learning abilities and need individualized learning plans. I have valued education my entire life. Education is key, to teaching our youth and our adults about how they can be productive, engaged and happy citizens of the world. I am dedicated to give my time to each student to help them be successful in and out of the classroom. I am looking forward to seeing you in class soon.

I graduated from Clark University in 2009 with a degree in International Relations. I firmly believe I have good personal skills as well as a deep base of knowledge regarding international affairs, domestic politics, history, and literature. I understand that all students learn in different ways; some are more auditory learners, whereas others do best by writing and reading. My process is to determine what kind of learner a pupil is, then impart on them my excitement for the topic, so that they are eager to attain new knowledge. Outside of academia I enjoy screenwriting, film, and the science fictions genre.
