I am a Junior Chemistry major at Arcadia University in the vigorous Forensic Science track. I love being in the lab and putting my skills to the test and watching science happen before my eyes. I started out as a math tutor because I have always had a love for math and "playing" with numbers. I love to take my different way of thinking to help students understand various concepts.When I'm not in the lab or helping out other students, I can be found at our local firehouse volunteering. I am a nationally certified vascular surgery physician assistant. I received my masters in medical science from Arcadia University. I attended Virginia Tech for my bachelors in biological sciences with a minor in chemistry where I graduated with honors. I am a graduate of Arcadia University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and I am a graduate of Drexel University with a Master of Science degree. While attending Arcadia University, I conducted research in a Genetics lab where I helped investigate the role of specific insulator DNA sequences in the Drosophila genome that bound to a protein called CTCF. Afterwards, while attending Drexel University, I wrote my master's thesis based on clinical research I conducted at the Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA. The thesis was related to the effects of prism glasses on the satisfaction of diplopia patients. The research was presented as a poster at the 2016 North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) conference, with me as a 3rd author. For the past year, I have re-enrolled at Drexel University College of Medicine to take graduate-level classes such as two semesters of Biochemistry as well as Graduate Neuroscience and a medical school course titled Medical Neuroscience. From May 2021 to January 2022, I conducted spinal cord research at Drexel University College of Medicine, where I studied the functional interaction between locomotor and respiratory networks in the spinal cord of adult Sprague Dawley rats. This research was presented as a poster with me as a second author at the Experimental Biology conference held this past April at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The abstract was then published in the FASEB Journal a month later in May. I have experience teaching elementary and middle school students as part of outreach programs affiliated with Drexel University College of Medicine. The different science related topics I helped teach was related to biology and neuroscience. I feel that volunteering one's time for tutoring on a regular basis will help students in school, as well as demonstrate to students that there are others who care about them and their potential to succeed in school and beyond.

I'm a former student of the University of the Arts in my hometown of Philadelphia, and have since transferred to Arcadia University! I am currently seeking my BFA in English/Creative writing, where I plan to then get my MA degree in English & Literature. My dream is to teach literature and/or creative writing in a university setting!I have experience with teaching, as I was a teaching assistant for an illustration professor at the University of the Arts, and I was a peer mentor for a Sherlock Holmes close-reading course in my Fall 2021 semester. My job was to help students with both their safety and their work! I gave creative input and advice while also being an ear for them, as I would potentially be less intimidating than the professor.I'm presently a senior at Arcadia, and I work at the Landman Library here on campus!

When aiding my students with their writing assignments, I experience a certain frustration at their lack of exploration. No matter the nature of the assignment, students are taught to seek the right answer in the most direct manner. In this age driven by state assessments, students are encouraged to find what???s considered to be the correct answer quickly with little room for exploration or a deeper level of critical thinking. Students are often encouraged to get from point A to point B in a quick and efficient manner without stopping to discover along the way. Although students achieve their goal of completing an assignment in a timely manner, the writing that results lacks originality of thought that can only be discovered through exploration.As an adjunct, I stress the importance of exploration for the good of my students??? creative and academic endeavors. These efforts make both of us not only better students, but help to ensure that we can increase of knowledge in all areas of our lives no matter what path they may take. I believe that teachers who demonstrate curiosity and passion about a subject area motivate students to learn. I believe that W.B. Yeats captured the exhilaration of teaching when he wrote: ???Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.???My philosophy of teaching is to create an environment that allows for supervised exploration. I believe that learner-oriented teaching promotes learning that is both purposeful and enduring. However, to really transition from a teacher-centered learning environment to a more learner-centered environment, students must identify learning needs in themselves, and assess their own progress. As an adjunct instructor, I encourage my students to participate in active conversation about literature as well as their own composition process. In my opinion, first year students will benefit more from an instructor who will listen in addition to guide them towards a more cohesive writing style that will last throughout their collegiate and professional careers.In summary, the learning process is enhanced by??? a collegial relationship between teacher and learner??? evident pride in scholarship by the teacher??? challenge of the learner???s knowledge??? clarification of underlying structure by the teacher??? mutual feedback.

I am graduate of Gettysburg College where I earned a degree in Health Sciences in 2013 while also playing football. I later went on to earn his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in Pennsylvania where I graduated in 2020. I spent all of his time in the outpatient orthopedic setting during my clinical rotations. I plans to pursue a Orthopedic Clinical Specialty (OCS) as well as continuing education in Concussion Rehab, Sports Rehab, and certification in the McKenzie Method of Diagnosis and Treatment of the Spine. In my free time, I love to play guitar, cook, exercise, and watch all Philadelphia sports teams.I not only teach my students about their subjects, I also teach them HOW to study. We will work on good study habits and techniques that students will be able to use in all different subjects. And while we learn lets try to minimize stress and have some fun!

I believe effective instruction starts with students. Students are more likely to succeed if they believe they are valuable as individuals. All students should be valued. All students who are able should have a say in how they are taught. When these practices are established and reinforced, the individual student becomes intrinsically motivated to be productive. Only then will we see our children blossom into lifelong learners and productive citizens.I believe in the ability for all to learn and learning provides empowerment of the individual. If empowerment is not established and reinforced, even the most resilient student will be likely to fail to meet their potential and therefore fall into cycles of self defeat. It is our job as teachers to create learning environments to foster and provide opportunities for exposure to these truths.I think keeping an open mind to change and a sense of humor are also very important aspects of education. Character education that emphasizes tolerance and support will surely give our students valuable life skills. The heart is where great teaching comes from. If we teach our students to use their hearts and minds, we will surely see the benefits in generations to come.
