I graduated from high school the spring of 2012 with a 3.9 GPA; my favorite course was AP English. Since I was little up until now at twenty-two I have been was a voracious reader and was always exploring different forms of Literature. One of the many solidifying experiences in my four years of high school was being a part of Future Teachers, which is a program where I visited the local middle school with two other students to assist middle school students with English and their other academic pursuits. Working with students and going from the progression of not understanding a concept to the enlightenment of realizing oh wow that was easy! This is the reason why I want to be a part of the Varsity Tutors platform and help students. Along with this I have always harbored a need to want to help people. The idea that someone can be lagging behind in their studies and my actions or interventions can wholly rectify or improve that condition is an amazing thing. Now I would like to give three reasons why I am pursuing healthcare to edify why helping others is so crucial to me. First, is that my mom is a nurse at UPENN Hospital and day in day out works to help people, nurture and improve their overall health quality. This compassion to help others I feel was passed to me because of my mom. Second, I have a vested interest in healthcare and helping others in general because my family on my mothers side has a history of diabetes, which has had some disastrous effects. Moreover I have had hypertension in the past and I also have scoliosis. This has pushed me to want to understand healthcare more and how individual and community healthcare can be improved. Lastly, I have witnessed the effects of poor healthcare during my travels to Egypt and when I was younger in Nigeria. The administration part of my major also appealed to me because of my interest in business and my wanting to improve healthcare systems. The culmination of my experiences and the things that I have learned have taught me that if I have the wherewithal to impact a situation or improve a life then it is incumbent upon me to do so.
