Alfredo is a wonderful teacher. My 7 year old son is able to focus on the lesson for the full hour because Alfredo makes if fun to learn Spanish. The sessions are recorded so we can go back and review and also see how well they interact together. Nashville Spanish Tutoring FAQ

If you're on the lookout for a Nashville Spanish tutor for your child or yourself, Varsity Tutors can set you up with a highly qualified instructor. Your child might just be starting out in a Spanish class at an area school. You might be beginning more rigorous studies at Vanderbilt University or Tennessee State University. Maybe you're entering the job market and hoping to make yourself more competitive. Maybe you're looking to do some traveling internationally and want to be more prepared. Whatever the case might be, studying with Nashville Spanish tutors can be tremendously helpful.

What are the benefits of working with a Nashville Spanish tutor near me?

There are a number of advantages that come with securing the services of a Nashville Spanish tutor. One of those benefits is gaining access to an expert in the language. For those unfamiliar with Romance languages, some of their nuances can seem perplexing. For example, Spanish nouns are preceded by gendered articles. Whether a noun is feminine or masculine is typically dictated by suffix-dependent rules, but as is the case with most rules, there are exceptions. Understanding when and where these rules apply takes extensive study. Similarly, verb conjugation is no walk in the park. There are three broad categories of verbs: -ar, -er, and -ir verbs. While the vast majority of -ar verbs are what are considered regular verbs, -er and -ir verbs are a mixed bag of regular and irregular verbs with different rules guiding their conjugation across five different tenses. If all of this sounds complicated, remember that we haven't even begun discussing adverbs and adjectives yet.

This is part of why having a Nashville Spanish tutor on your side is so helpful. These are individuals who know the language inside and out. They can help explain the grammatical rules and how they interact with each other. They can craft lesson plans that build upon each other and deepen your understanding of the language as you go. If there's a concept that you find confusing, they can present the information in different ways until you find a way that makes it make sense. This sort of individual attention can be difficult to come by in a traditional classroom.

Individualized attention is uniquely helpful when it comes time to cultivate your speaking skills. It's hard to say you've learned a language if you can't understand what's being said to you and respond in kind. Arguably, this is the most difficult part of learning any language. Conversational Spanish is very different than the Spanish you encounter in a textbook. Just like the grammar you might cover in a high school English class is different from what you might encounter in a high school cafeteria, the Spanish you learn from flashcards and workbooks is likely to vary dramatically from what you encounter in the streets of Madrid or Puerto Vallarta. There are colloquialisms, regional dialects, and slang to account for in conversations, and the rate of delivery is much faster in a casual conversation between two people than what you hear from a teacher trying to model pronunciation in front of a class.

Nashville Spanish tutoring can help fill the gap. Using video chat on the Live Learning Platform, a private instructor can directly engage you or your student in conversation, helping to train the ear to process the language at a faster pace. They can also correct mispronunciations in real-time to prevent bad habits from forming. The platform also records each sessions the sessions, allowing you to go back and watch them after the fact whenever you want to review something. Using the document sharing function, Nashville Spanish tutors can provide links to other forms of Spanish-speaking media that will give you additional opportunities to practice rapid translation and give you exposure to additional dialects. All of this training is uniquely beneficial to students practicing for oral exams, and especially helpful for high school students looking to taking higher-level Spanish courses where instruction is almost always provided exclusively in Spanish.

Another benefit of Nashville Spanish tutoring is that the instruction can be tailored to the educational preferences of the student. Research suggests that when the approach to education is molded to meet the student's preferences, the student is more likely to pay attention and retain the information being presented. Nashville Spanish tutors can take the time to do just that. It doesn't have to be complicated. For example, some students are more visual learners, better internalizing information through images, while others are more verbal, retaining information associations through words. In a case like this, the student who is a visual learner might be presented with vocabulary flashcards featuring images, while the verbal learner would be presented with flashcards featuring words. These distinctions might seem simple, but these accommodations are sorts of steps that can be taken to ensure sessions are as effective as possible.

Sessions can also be customized to the pacing needs of the student. In a classroom, teachers only have so much time to cover a set amount of material. They can't necessarily afford to slow down or speed up for a single student. A Nashville Spanish tutor, though, can. If you've already got a grip on present tense conjugation and are ready to move on, they can do so, or they can allocate some extra sessions if you're struggling. Your time together is all about you and setting you up to succeed.

Spanish Tutoring review by Erin in Nashville, TN
Today we reviewed material from last week, first looking at dates and times (Àque hora es? Àcuando es tu cumpleanos? etc.). I could see the student was having some difficulty with pronunciation, so we went through the alphabet together to review. I spelled some words for her (in Spanish) and she wrote them down. She did well! She mixed up some of the vowels, which is absolutely expected. We did a lot of conjugation work with present tense verbs. She did a great job. She is beginning to be able to conjugate verbs off the top of her head, which is great!

Spanish Tutoring review by Quiana in Nashville, TN
The student achieved an 88%, one of the highest scores in her class, on her last quiz. Today, we went through her test study guide which included reflexive verbs, verbs like gustar, irregular verbs, and possessive adjectives. We created flashcards to clarify topics, and what the proper studying I believe she will do well on her test tomorrow. I also recommended a website as a resource for quizzes and any additional tutorials on topics that are not covered in class.

We went over Spanish letters, we reviewed Spanish numbers, covered more common Spanish phrases (especially ones pertaining to her work). We briefly touched on grammar and feminine/ masculine usage. The student is doing great! She is an amazing student, eager to learn, fun and open minded.

Spanish Tutoring review by Lizeth in Nashville, TN
Today we were checking on new concepts of technical vocabulary used in companies. The student told me that he liked it even though it was hard because everything was new but it was necessary. So we are going to continue with that next class, different types of exercises and do some readings as well. Today we were matching concepts with definitions. He has to memorize all the vocabulary for homework.

Spanish Tutoring review by Ziana in Nashville, TN
The student and I began our lesson reviewing the vocabulary words from previous lessons (including those from chapter 1 of her new textbook) that she missed. While she was familiar with most of the words, she forgot to review a few vocabulary sections of the first chapter; thus, I will quiz her next time on those. She did really well at recalling the difference in meaning of certain words in the present and past. For grammar, we went over mnemonics to help remember different classes of irregular verbs.

Spanish Tutoring review by Katherine in Nashville, TN
In this session, the student and I began with reviewing introductions as a warm up. He added some details and I helped him translate new information he would like to share about himself in his introduction. We then proceeded to politically related questions, which I researched and prepared for our session. He chose one topic to practice today and I helped him craft questions in Spanish that he can use when speaking to community members about the given topic. To review some words and grammar we previously covered, I prepared practice problems, on which he excelled. For our next session, we will wrap up the topic from today's session and begin to dive into another relevant topic for his tutoring goals.
