During this session, we reviewed a homework packet that dealt with using various trigonometric identities to solve for the unknown angles and sides of triangles. The most basic problems involved finding the ratio of two sides of a triangle in order to find the value of a trig function. Further problems involved using the law of sines and the trig area formula. The most difficult questions required use of the law of cosines as well as the law of sines to solve a SAS triangle. The student has a good understanding of all of these concepts, although he needs a bit more practice with multipart questions. We will continue to practice them in future sessions.

Tutoring review by Gerard in Oak Hill, TN
In our first session, the student and I first got acquainted and then developed a study plan. We spent most of the session going through math problems from her diagnostic exam, focusing on concepts that she had forgotten how to do. We covered many different topics including how to FOIL, exponent rules, probability and some plane geometry. For next time, she will complete a practice quantitative and verbal section from her book, and we'll continue our review of concepts she is unfamiliar with. We will also start to look at some general strategies that pertain to certain question types.

Tutoring review by Matthew in Oak Hill, TN
Today was great. We continued to work on quadratic functions in different forms. The girls worked on finding the vertex and graphing quadratics in vertex, standard, and x-intercept forms. I must say I was impressed with their work and understanding of the concepts. They were also able to explain what they learned to other students. The girls do need a bit more work with integers though. I will continue to drill the rules and give them practice.

Tutoring review by Amy in Oak Hill, TN
Today the student and I completed part of her algebra midterm review packet. We reviewed topics including inequalities, absolute value equations, number line graphs, graphing linear functions, finding the slope, slope-intercept form, and simplifying algebraic expressions. She seems to recall the material quickly after doing one practice problem. She tends to make simple mistakes so I suggested taking the extra time to check her work after completing each one to avoid this. We planned to finish the packet during next week's session.
