Varsity Tutors is here to help you improve your language skills with a Seattle Chinese course. No matter if you are a college student at the University of Washington, a high schooler at Garfield High School or Roosevelt High School, or if you are just a person who wants to learn the Chinese language, e can provide you with the support you need. Learning any new language can be hard to accomplish, and you may have realized that a traditional classroom's curriculum is not a correct fit for your Chinese language learning style. With our course, you can get the kind of guidance and support you expect.
When attempting to master Chinese, one important thing to remember is the fact you will have to consistently practice this language, both in conversation and in the written word, to make true progress. As someone learning Chinese, whether you are a complete beginner or someone looking to build upon some already known skills, a Seattle Chinese course can offer you this learning immersion. You will also have access to an experienced Chinese instructor who can help you as you get started.
Chinese is the most popular language in the world and has over one billion native speakers. There are several different Chinese dialects, including Mandarin, Xiang, Wu, Hakka, and Gan. Mandarin is the most popular dialect spoken and is the official language in the People's Republic of China, including Hong Kong, as well as Taiwan. However, most people in the United States who know Chinese speak Cantonese. The various dialects all share the same writing system.
People have been writing in Chinese for thousands of years, and there is evidence of Chinese characters being used back in the Shang Dynasty. Chinese is the only modern pictographic language. Many, though not all, Chinese characters used today are derived from ancient drawings of the items that they were meant to describe. Symbols do not give any clues for pronunciation, so each must be learned individually.
Knowing how to speak and write in Chinese can provide you with an advantage if you are interested in a career in international business and trade. It can also expose you to many Eastern philosophies. So, no matter what your skill level is or no matter what reason you have for wanting to learn Chinese, we can enroll you in a class to help you reach for your goals. Whether you are interested in the Chinese culture or you are trying to pass a class, a Seattle Chinese class could very well be the answer for you.
What type of material will a Seattle Chinese course cover?
Chinese is typically considered one of the hardest languages to learn and master. It has very little in common with English. There is no Chinese alphabet, but there are over 50,000 characters that exist in the Chinese language. Each symbol will represent one syllable in a word. There are around 20,000 characters that are regularly used. The majority of written Chinese uses about 2,500 unique characters. Pinyin is a system that translates Chinese characters to letters in the English alphabet based on how they are pronounced.
Chinese is considered a tonal language. This means that the meaning of words will change according to the tone that is used. There are four unique tones used when speaking Mandarin Chinese. These include flat, rising, falling then rising, and falling. The other dialects can have more - some have up to nine tones.
Another important point to note about Chinese is that the language has no articles, verb inflections, or plurals. Each word has just one grammatical form. Unlike English, where plural nouns have an -s at the end, Chinese nouns will keep the same form whether they are pluralized or singular. Once you have understood this concept, it can be easier to learn Chinese.
Your Chinese instructor will explain all of this and more in multiple discussions, so you have plenty of opportunities to practice. You will learn more about how pronouns have different characters based on gender. The sound is the same, but you will pronounce it differently. Your instructor can help you with this concept and make sure that you have plenty of time and activities to help you understand the nuances and complexities of the Chinese language.
How does the Seattle Chinese course help me learn?
A Seattle Chinese class is fully online and features an interactive classroom that is led by an experienced Chinese instructor. You will be able to see and communicate with the teacher and the other people taking the class, as though you were sitting in a classroom with them. This will give you the opportunity to participate in several activities designed to promote learning Chinese as well as letting you practice Chinese conversation.
If you begin to struggle with one of the harder subjects or just aren't picking things up as quickly as you'd like, a Seattle Chinese course will allow you to reserve one-on-one time with your Chinese instructor.
An online course is highly convenient because you do not have to travel to a specific place at a specific time. You are able to pick whether you want to study in the middle of the afternoon or if you would rather study at night or over the weekend. Classes start on a monthly rolling basis, so you can begin quickly in a course that fits your needs.
How do I begin?
There could be many reasons you want to learn Chinese, such as travel, academics, or gaining an advantage in the business world. You may just want to experience Chinese literature or dive into new cultures. Whatever your reason and whatever your skill level, you just need to contact Varsity Tutors and we can help you get started.
