What information does Sacramento MCAT prep help me review?
There are four sections to the MCAT covering many aspects of a career in medicine. You'll receive a separate score on each section between 118 and 132, which combine for a total score of 472 to 528. Sometimes experimental questions are included in sections that won't count towards your total score. Since you won't know which questions these are, it's important to do your best on all questions.
The section on Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems contains 59 questions and allows you 95 minutes to complete them. The subjects tested are general, organic, and inorganic chemistry and introductory physics, biology, and biochemistry. This section focuses on the functions of human bodies and the basic chemical and physical principles that underlie the operation of the human body. You should have a solid understanding of how the mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of tissues, organs, and organ systems relate to the general laws of physics, as well as how chemical reactions work within the body. This is also where you will be tested on your knowledge of the Periodic Table of Elements.
There are 53 questions that you must answer in 90 minutes in the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section. These make use of a large variety of social sciences and the humanities. However, you don't need to know these areas; it's more your English skills that are tested using passages in these sections. The focus is on your reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills. You should be able to understand the components of the text you read and how to integrate them to increase your comprehension. Your abilities to extrapolate ideas from the passages to apply them to new contexts and situations will be assessed, as well as your aptitude in assessing the effects of introducing new information to the passage.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section consists of 59 questions and has a time limit of 95 minutes. Specific subjects tested are general and organic chemistry, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry. You'll be evaluated on how well you understand processes that are unique to living organisms, the foundational concepts of biology and biochemistry, scientific inquiry, and your reasoning competence. It's essential you know how cells and organ systems within a living organism both act independently and work together to accomplish necessary processes for life. Processes include growing, reproducing, and making environmental adaptations when necessary.
You'll have 95 minutes to answer the 59 questions in the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. Your proficiency in biology and introductory psychology and sociology will be applicable to these questions. You have the opportunity to showcase your level of familiarity with serving an increasingly diverse population, how behavior can impact health, and mental health issues. A few things you must know or comprehend to be successful in this section include behavior and changes in behavior, cultural and social differences and how they can influence wellbeing, relationships regarding social stratification, and access to resources beyond direct healthcare.
This is a brief overview of the content that you can go into depth reviewing in your Sacramento MCAT prep class or with your Sacramento MCAT tutor. Either way, you're working with an expert on the MCAT who knows the content and has the communication skills to help you understand not only the material but how it needs to be applied on the actual exam.
What are the advantages of each type of Sacramento MCAT prep?
There's not one best solution for everyone when it comes to MCAT prep, which is why Varsity Tutors provides options. First, there is the Sacramento MCAT prep course, which you attend live online. The classes are offered in either two- or four-week sections, and there are various sections running concurrently at different times of the day. It should be easy to fit into your schedule, plus new courses begin each week, so no need to wait. You have classmates who are able to provide tips and ideas, and who you can bounce your ideas off of. A collaborative environment like this is known to help retain what's studied, which may include content knowledge or test-taking strategies.
If you prefer one-on-one study, Varsity Tutors can set you up with a private MCAT tutor who can meet you online, as well. One strong benefit to this type of study is the level to which your tutor can customize each study session. If you're doing really well in some areas and finding other areas especially challenging, your MCAT tutor can adjust your study schedule accordingly. This can be very efficient if you don't need to study everything equally.

Blake: Sacramento MCAT test prep instructor
I am a future medical student and recent engineering graduate, and I look forward to working with students in math and science.... During a first session, I would talk with the student about their academic goals, and also discuss learning strategies that have worked well for them in the past.... I like to focus on big picture objectives. I believe it is more important to understand the foundations of a process and the overarching idea, rather than trying to memorize a list of equations or terms.

I am, therefore, a proponent of non-confrontational learning and use a variety of methods to not only encourage discussion on the issues a course presents my student but also instil the kind of confidence a student requires to return to class with confidence as well as augmented knowledge. ...currently a Master's student at Cornell University. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science from Cornell in 2016 and I plan to attend medical school in the fall of 2017. I am really excited to be tutoring for Varsity tutors because I really enjoy helping students with subjects that gave me trouble in school. I hope that my time spent developing strategies to learn and absorb the tough material can help you succeed.... I think the key to understanding is context. I remember learning dense science material in one class that only made sense after I took the next class. Once I was able to see the big picture, the smaller details started to fall into place. I try to always draw back to the big picture so that a student always understands what they are learning and how it relates to other material.
