The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is an exam for prospective medical students in the United States, Australia, and Canada. It assesses critical thinking, written analysis, problem-solving, and knowledge of scientific concepts. Administration of the exam is computer-based. The MCAT will test you on concepts that are important to succeed in medical school.
If you're a student who's thinking of getting extra help with your review, an Orlando MCAT prep course might be ideal for you. Or maybe you prefer to work with an Orlando MCAT tutor. Whatever test prep assistance you are seeking in Orlando, Florida, Varsity Tutors can connect you with the option that works best for you.
What does an Orlando MCAT prep cover?
The MCAT is a computer-based, multiple-choice exam. Test takers will receive five scores. Each of the four sections is scored from 118 to 132. These scores are combined to create a total score, which ranges from 472 to 528. The use of calculators, smartphones, or electronic devices is prohibited during the MCAT exam. Let's take a closer look at the four sections of the MCAT.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section consists of 59 questions, and you'll have 95 minutes to finish it. It requires understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, biology, and biochemistry. This section focuses on the functions of the body's tissues and organs, chemical and physical principles which underlie the mechanisms operating in the body, and basic chemical and physical principles of living systems. You also need a good understanding of statistics and research methods to successfully go through this section.
Meanwhile, the Critical Analysis and Reading Skills (CARS) section consists of 53 questions. Test takers have 90 minutes to finish it. This section contains passages with questions that will test reading comprehension. The 500 to 600-word passages can cover topics ranging from humanities to social sciences, sometimes presenting in a convoluted manner requiring you to consider what's being written from multiple perspectives. The passages are designed to discuss topics unfamiliar to the reader. Success in this section requires using information from the passages without using previously known knowledge.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section is primarily about biology and biochemistry, but also requires an understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry. There are 59 questions, and you'll have 95 minutes to answer all of them. Basically, the questions are about biomolecules, processes unique to living organisms, and organization of biological systems. A good understanding of statistics and research methods are also important.
The Psychological, Social and Biological Functions of Behavior section is composed of 59 questions, and you'll have 95 minutes to complete it. The subjects tested are psychology, sociology, and biology. Among the things you need to focus on are behavior's impact on health, mental health issues, human and social issues in the field of medicine.
What are the benefits of Orlando MCAT prep?
Those who want to enter medical school study intensely for the MCAT, and understandably so. The MCAT is among the important metrics that are used for admission. It goes without saying that a low MCAT score could be a deal breaker. To increase the likelihood of studying effectively, you can sign up for an MCAT prep course or enlist the help of a private tutor.
Varsity Tutors can connect you with both options for Orlando MCAT preparation. Each option has its own benefits, and prospective medical school students can even use a combination of the two. To understand what is involved in each option, let's take a closer look at Orlando MCAT prep classes and tutoring.
An Orlando MCAT prep class features an interactive online instruction that is conducted like a regular classroom course. You can choose from two or four-week sessions. This setup is convenient since you can bring the classroom to wherever you learn best. Once signed up, you will attend live sessions with an instructor together with other students. You'll engage in activities that could help you gain knowledge and skills needed to get a high score on the MCAT. The collaborative environment can help you retain new concepts and techniques you learn, like using the process of elimination to weed out wrong answers and how to pace yourself so you can finish the test on time. Prep courses also include the opportunity to have one-on-one time with your instructor.
On the other hand, if you're the type of student who prefers customized and personalized instruction, we can set you up with an MCAT tutor. Your academic mentor will work with you online using the Live Learning Platform. Or, you can choose to work with your tutor in person at a location that is convenient for you. The main benefit of this type of setup is that your mentor has his/her entire attention on you. He or she can identify your weaknesses, strengths, learning style, and develop strategies that could help you score better on the MCAT. Whatever areas you are aiming to improve, a personal MCAT coach can help you show up on exam day better prepared.
