Polish Tutoring FAQ
Acquiring fluency in a foreign language requires spoken, written, and reading comprehension skills. If you are studying Polish, the language can present a number of difficulties in these areas. One of the first challenges you will have to overcome when learning Polish is that the Polish alphabet has more letters than the English alphabet. Polish grammar also differs significantly from English grammar in certain aspects. Anyone trying to learn Polish may encounter unnecessary difficulty with the languages challenging aspects, especially if the way he or she is learning Polish doesn't mesh with his or her natural learning style. For instance, learning a new language in a class could cause stress and frustration if the class moves at a faster or slower pace than you are learning the material. Likewise, if you spend time trying to confirm the reliability of online language-learning resources, this is wasted time and energy that you could have put toward your language-learning efforts. Neither of these educational approaches may focus on your conversational skills, leaving you to stumble awkwardly through Polish sentences full of mispronounced terms when you try to speak the language.
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with personal Polish tutoring all across the country that can help you accomplish whatever goals you have set for yourself in learning the language. Recent Polish Tutoring Session Notes
In this session, the student took two Chinese tests and he did a wonderful job. I may let him do another set of questions with a higher level. He also told the story 'frog, where are you'. This activity is a little bit challenging, but the student can still tell the story with appropriate vocabulary and details in a coherent manner. I like him preparing for flash cards and recording new vocabulary he encountered.
The studied for his dictation test and wrote two sentences in his workbook for homework. We also practiced reading sentences from his dictation book and making his own similar sentences. He was fairly focused today and easily redirected when he tried to change the topic.
We reviewed all the materials we learned before in today's class and we practiced dialogues in mock situations, like greetings, restaurants, etc. The student was assigned to write a self-introduction in Chinese and will present next time in class.
The student and I went over a dialogue about evening activities, and then we had a conversation in Mandarin as much as we could. We reviewed questions about date, time, names, nationality, occupation, and hobbies. We also went over some sentence structure. I reminded him to always put time and location before the verb when constructing a sentence.
During this session we reviewed the Chinese numbers for 1-6 and learned the numbers for 7-10. We used marshmallows to practice counting and I believe that it was really helpful. After that we went on a scavenger hunt to practice even more counting. This seemed to be helpful as she was able to apply her vocabulary to something other than marshmallows. Next week, I plan on teaching her the colors in Chinese. I am thinking about bringing in a color by number so we can bring the concepts of numbers and colors together.
This time, the two students did all of their homework. We went over the chapter 6 vocabulary first since they were rusty. As they did the pronunciations and translations for homework, we were able to finish up chapter 6. We also started working on apply some of the sentence structures, grammar, and vocabulary and played around a bit by having them be inventive with creating sentences. We reviewed chapters 4 and 5 as well and had them practice applying them in real life.
