By taking a New York City Chinese class provided Varsity Tutors, you can build your understanding of Chinese languages. If you are a college student at Columbia University trying to fulfill language credits, a high school student at St. Francis Preparatory School starting to study Mandarin, or a professional looking to broaden your business internationally, you can benefit from a Chinese course. Chinese dialects are complex and can be difficult to learn, even if you have prior experience as a language learner. For some people, a traditional classroom also does not benefit them much when trying to learn a new language. The key to putting your best foot forward when learning a language is giving yourself plenty of chances to practice writing, hearing, and speaking it. If you take a New York City Chinese course, you get access to a knowledgeable instructor who can provide you with support, guidance, and lots of practice.
Chinese is the most popular language on Earth, which makes learning Chinese a wise choice. Over 1 billion people are native speakers of Mandarin Chinese. Chinese has many different dialects. A few include Xiang, Gan, Hakka, Wu. Mandarin is the most popular of these dialects, with it being the official language of The People's Republic of China and Taiwan. The dialect more popular historically among Chinese language speakers in the United States is Cantonese.
All of the dialects of Chinese share the same writing system. The written form of Chinese is thousands of years old, dating all the way back to The Shang Dynasty, which ruled from 1700 to 1027 B.C. The Chinese language has no alphabet. The language is represented with symbols and characters that represent syllables. There are over 50,000 characters in Chinese. Of the 50,000, 20,000 are regularly used. In reality, only about 2,500 are consistently used, so becoming a fluid reader of Chinese text is attainable, but that's still nearly a 100-fold increase over the 26 letters in the English alphabet. Written Chinese is the only widely used pictographic language. Many of the characters and symbols used today were created thousands of years ago by people who were just trying to describe items in their world. These symbols and characters are not letters, so there are no clues to how they are pronounced. They have to be memorized individually.
Chinese is one of the hardest languages for native English speakers to learn because it has few similarities and several tenets that English does not. Even though the language is tough, it can open up new possibilities for you worldwide. New possibilities, both professionally and personally, can arise once you grasp a dialect of the Chinese language. With a New York City Chinese course, you can learn effectively in an enjoyable environment.
What will a New York City Chinese course cover?
A New York City Chinese course can cover concepts and rules of a dialect like Mandarin thoroughly. The hardest rule to grasp is that all Chinese words only have one form. That means they have no verb inflections, plurals, or even articles. This can be very confusing for native English. Once you grasp this rule, however, Chinese is a lot easier to understand. Another important new idea is that Chinese dialects are tonal. That means a word's meaning is different based on the speaker's tone of voice. Mandarin has four tones: rising then falling, rising, falling, and flat. Other dialects may have as many as nine tones. Another topic of difficulty is pronouns. Chinese pronouns have characters based on gender. The characters are usually the same, but they are pronounced differently. Some other topics of study are sentence structure and grammar, history, traditions, culture, and customs, phrases, verbs, and reading written Chinese.
How will a New York City Chinese class help me learn?
A New York City Chinese class is very convenient and engaging for Chinese language learners. All classes are held online in a virtual classroom, which makes learning convenient with no commute. You also have access to an expert instructor and classmates who will join you in the virtual classroom. You can have conversations with both your instructor and peers to practice listening and speaking. Our Chinese classes take the best parts of a traditional class and put them online. You will also have many opportunities to speak and write Chinese alongside your classmates during exercises, role plays, and other simulated immersion techniques. Working with others is a fun and easy way for you to retain information.
If you get stuck along the way and need some extra attention on a topic, you can always ask your instructor for help. Taking a Chinese class gives you the opportunity to sign up for one-on-one time with your instructor. This is a great option to get some dedicated help on areas that you find particularly challenging. Every part of the Chinese class is set up to help you do your best.
Another reason why taking a Chinese class is convenient is because there are many sections to choose from. Classes start on a monthly basis, and you get to choose if you want to take a two-week course or a four-week course. We know how busy your schedule can be, and you may have thought that you do not have time to take up a Chinese dialect. That's why we offer sessions in the mornings, evenings, and even weekends. We want to help you get started now so you can start taking advantages of the many opportunities that learning a Chinese dialect such as Mandarin can afford you.

If you choose me to be your tutor then you will definitely ace your test. I'm a great math tutor because I understand the material thoroughly, am patient, and know how to explain things. I attended Stuyvesant High School and the University of Chicago; I am currently studying Data Science with Johns Hopkins.... If you don't get it then I'm explaining it wrong.... Before the first session, I'd have them do a bunch of practice problems on the subject they want to be tutored in, and I'd look over their answers to see what they need help with. I'd also ask them which problems they guessed on or weren't totally sure of. We could start from there.
