What's tested on the LSAT?
The Law School Admissions Test, or LSAT, is unique among graduate school examinations. This is because the test doesn't require a lot of pre-existing knowledge of various academic subjects. Rather, it focuses on things like your academic skills and ability to think critically with logic. The test was designed to help law schools assess which of their applicants are most suited for success in the law school environment. To accomplish this, the LSAT is split into sections covering Reading Comprehension, Writing, Logical Reasoning, and Analytical Reasoning.
The Reading Comprehension section features a series of written passages that you'll be tasked with reading and answering questions about. These passages will be complex and may cover a variety of different subjects. This section was created in an attempt to mirror the kind of reading that lawyers and law students have to do. You may be asked to answer questions about the author's main purpose, information that is explicit or implicit, the principles that guide the passage, and more. This section has a time limit of 35 minutes.
Next, you'll also be tasked with completing the LSAT's Analytical Reasoning section. This part of the exam is also often called "Logic Games". That's because the format of the section is almost game-like. You'll be presented with a scenario like needing to order a group of objects. Then, you'll be given a set of rules that govern the ordering of the objects. You'll be tasked with putting the objects in their proper order by using the rules that you've been given to infer new rules. This section of the LSAT also has a time limit of 35 minutes.
There are two Logical Reasoning sections on the LSAT and each has a time limit of 35 minutes. This part of the exam provides you with short written excerpts from sources like newspapers, advertisements, magazines, and more. You'll be tasked with answering questions based on the information contained in these excerpts. You'll need to be able to recognize different parts of the arguments being made, identify assumptions, improve the arguments, assess how new information would affect the arguments, and more.
Finally, the last section of the LSAT focuses on Writing. This part of the test is not scored but it's wise to take it seriously because it's a good chance to show law schools your skills as a writer. You'll be presented with a prompt that describes two different positions or choices of action. Your task will be to pick one of these choices or courses of action and describe why your choice is the best one. There is no real right or wrong answer in this section. Instead, you will be graded on the strengths of the arguments that you make while writing your response to the prompt.

This could be the right choice for you if you'd prefer to work with your instructor individually throughout the entirety of your test preparation experience. You and your tutor can meet for one-on-one learning sessions that focus exclusively on your academic needs. This creates an efficient learning environment where you can practice the LSAT topics that you need the most help with. You can also move through each LSAT topic at your own pace rather than working at a pace that's set for you by someone else.
Conversely, you may be more interested in signing up for a Minneapolis LSAT prep class. This could be a better option for you if you've always enjoyed the traditional classroom learning experience. Your class will take place online through a virtual learning platform that replicates the classroom environment. You'll learn from an experienced instructor who will deliver a series of lectures to you and a small group of peers. You can even interact with your peers throughout the learning process, which can further enhance your test preparation experience. If you find one of the topics in your course challenging, you can sign up to work with your instructor in a one-on-one setting to get help with that topic.
